"Fake" backlinks indentified on Webmaster tools. How to remove them?
-
Hi…We noticed a huge number of “fake” links to our site a couple of months ago through Webmaster Tools. After identifying that, we tried to disavow the links, but it hasn’t worked. It looks like a registered domain that has duplicated our entire site. All links are coming from worldstudy.concretecorp.com.br and when you go to it, it redirects to our site. These crazy links keep increasing (over 637,000 now!). What would be our options to get rid of them? Thanks

Hi John, Leslie has provided you with some excellent advice. Have you acted on on it yet, or taken any other action? We'd love to have an update on your situation! Thanks.

Hey John,
It's a negative SEO attack and as you mentioned it's already been couple of months past, you need to actively work on it to prevent further damage. I'd like to know, have you suffered from a traffic and ranking drop in this tenure? If yes, the at what rate?
You should take up Lesley advice and figure it out earliest.
Do check out this useful post from one of the best SEO auditor of our industry, Marie Haynes

You are actually in luck. It looks like the site is hosted at AWS. You can send a DMCA notice to AWS and let them know someone has copied your whole site and is hosting it with them. They should take it down immediately. The link you need is here, https://aws.amazon.com/forms/report-abuse

Old Linkwheel, should I remove?
I just found a 2yr old link wheel that was setup by a SEO co for my site, it has tripod/webs.com/other web 2.0 type sites.. 8 of them. Each web 2.0 site has about 40 links to it and a single link to my site. Is it always best to get rid of all this stuff? I have login details for all the "web 2.0" sites. What if I paid a "designer" $5 to get a bunch of videos and images put on each site and then I wrote some text?

They would be useful sites to surfers, I could theme each site. I see all this about hunting down dubious links.. but the other day I went to one of the black style forums and the same people as years ago are selling packages with PDF/Doc submissions, private blog networks same old stuff. It does work as people keep buying and using and reviewing it. If my link wheel hurts then what would stop me pointing it at my competitor? I wouldnt but... Now a site that has a decent link profile, can they get away with a link wheel or two?0 -

Drop in "Links to your site" in Google Webmaster Tools
Last week I noticed a substantial drop in "Links to Your Site" in Google Webmaster Tools on several of my websites. Upon further investigation the reduced links were from our sister sites. It appears that Google has reduced the number of links they are counting from links in our headers and footers from these sites to our main websites. It is not affecting our rankings or traffic. Is Google doing some clean up with what they are showing in webmaster tools for links from related, owned sites? Any cause for concern?

Are moderated external links in a "showcase" worth having?
We have some e-commerce software with several dozen websites that use our technology. The websites have links to the developer and design shops that made the site as well as the site itself. All of these sites are moderated so we don't have to worry about spam. My question is should some or all of these links be rel=nofollow? The links are definitely pointing to legit development shops but those sites aren't always strictly related to e-commerce or the keywords we're trying to rank for. Any thoughts on how to treat these links?

Does the ratio of external nofollow links to external "do follow" links matter in terms of SERPs ranking?
My site has an external link nofollow:dofollow ratio of approximately 1:1 That is, there are about as many nofollow external links as "do follow" external links. I have an impression that the ratio of no-follow to "do follow" links is a factor in the way that our website shows up in SERPs. I have the impression from reading a variety of sources, and from looking at Seomoz, that calculate "trust" factors as if they mattered (in SERPs), that seem to value a relatively low nofollow:dofollow ratio. Am I correct about that? Thanks,

Why does opensiteexplorer tell me I have 292 linking domains and google webmasteer tools says 528?
Does anyone have any idea why opensiteexplorer has a specific number of linking domains while google webmaster tools say another? I understand opensiteexplorer needs to update itself, but I have seen this discrepancy for months! Any ideas?
