How does google treat dynamically generated content on a page?
-
I'm trying to find information on how google treats dynamically generated content within a webpage? (not dynamic urls) For example I have a list of our top 10 products with short product descriptions and links on our homepage to flow some of the pagerank to those individual product pages. My developer wants to make these top products dynamic to where they switch around daily. Won't this negatively affect my seo and ability to rank for those keywords if they keep switching around or would this help since the content would be updated so frequently?
-
Right, that's what I was worried about. Good idea. Thanks!
-
And don't be surprised if the rankings for those products fluctuate wildly, as you are essentially giving and taking away good pagerank from your home page on a daily basis.
Maybe you could have a drop-down div to "see more top products" or something?
-
ok thanks,
-
Your homepage should have static text content that gives an overall description of the entire site, adding this dynamic content is a good strategy. Just make sure your random generator shows all products equally, or you might have some that never show.
-
So say we have 20 top products but can only fit 10 on the homepage. And we rotate those top 20 products daily. The goal was to have the keywords on the homepage at all times, but if they're rotating around I feel like that negates the seo purpose. thanks!
-
If by "switch around daily" you mean you'll be using the same 10 items, but changing the order in which they appear, I wouldn't worry all that much about the SEO effect of it.
If you mean that you'll be changing the 10 products that show, my concern would be less with SEO and more with UX. If I come to a website and see Items A-J are the "top 10", seeing items K-T as the "top 10" the next day or any other time would lead me to believe that "top" doesn't actually mean anything.

Duplicated Meta Descriptions on Dynamic Paginated Pages
If the title didn't put you off please read on! 🙂 According to our latest Moz Crawl Report we have circa 700 instances of duplicate Meta Description on pages that are both dynamically created and also paginated, however, I believe that number to be greater! We are unable to manual make changes to these pages (because they are dynamic) and so we need ask our web devs to create a change in how the Meta is created... If I am not making myself clear (and there is a good chance that I'm not!) then here is an example of what I mean; http://www.bolsovercruiseclub.com/cruise-deals/silversea-cruise-deals/ There are 92 pages of cruise deals for this particular operator with the results of each page having the option to sort by 4 categories; Recommended Cruise Price Sail Date Best Value 4 x 92 = 368 instances just for this one operator! The current Meta Desc is; A selection of the best Silversea cruise deals taking in over 800 destinations across all 7 continents. ...which isn't great I know! The problem is how to make each page (in each category) unique If any of you have incurred anything similar and have any kind of solution or recommendation then please respond - I would be most grateful! User generated content (Comments) - What impact do they have?
Hello MOZ stars! I have a question regarding user comments on article pages. I know that user generated content is good for SEO, but how much impact does it really have? For your information:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | idg-sweden
1 - All comments appears in source code and is crawled by spiders.
2 - A visitor can comment a page for up to 60 days.
3 - The amount of comments depends on the topic, we usually gets between 3-40 comments. My question:
1 - If we were to remove comments completely, what impact would it have from seo perspective? (I know you cant be certain - but please make an educated guess if possible)
2 - If it has a negative and-/or positive impact please specify why! 🙂 If anything is unclear or you want certain information don't hesitate to ask and I'll try to specify. Best regards,

Will Google bots crawl tablet optimized pages of our site?
We are in the process of creating a tablet experience for a portion of our site. We haven’t yet decided if we will use a one URL structure for pages that will have a tablet experience or if we will create separate URLs that can only be access by tablet users. Either way, will the tablet versions of these pages/URLs be crawled by Google bots?

Can you appear in both Google local and universal results on the page?
I have a client that ranks 2nd for a google local result, and the local results are the first set of results being displayed, making it in fact the 2nd result on the page for the keyword. There aren't any blended results on this page, it's straightforward local results, then universal results directly after. They are concerned that they are not appearing in the universal results high enough (they're on page 5 with a different url than the homepage). I'm not sure why their #2 local ranking isn't good enough since those are consistently the same results, but I have to ask; Can you appear in both local and universal results on the same page?

What to do with WordPress generated pages?
I'm an SEOmoz Newbie and have a very specific question about the auto generated WordPress Pages. SEOmoz caught and labeled the auto generated WP pages as Crawl Warnings like: Long URL - 302 - Title Element to Long - Missing Meta Description Tag - Too Many On-Page Links So I have learned the lesson and have now made those pages "no follow" / "no idex." HOWEVER, WHAT DO I DO WITH THE ONES THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN INDEXED? Do I... 1. Just leave them as is a hope they don't hurt me from an SEO perspective? 2. Redirect them all to a relevant page? I'm sure many people have had this issue. What do you think? Thanks Dominic

My page has fallen off the face of the earth on Google. What happened?
I have checked all of the usual things. My page has not lost any links or authority. It is not black listed or any other obvious sign. What's going on? This has just happened within the past 3 days.
