    Hey there,
certain pages of our website have mobile versions like m.mysite.com/content-xyz. On the desktop pages (i.e. mysite.com/content-xyz) we have "rich snippets for ratings" marked up and displayed in SERPs. However the ratings also appear in mobile search results when SERPS reference the mobile version of the page (m.mysite.com/content-xyz) which doesn't have any ratings or markup?

I am trying to figure out how Google treats mobile versions of a page in relation to the desktop version in relation to structured data (breadcrumbs etc.)? Would you always mark up both versions to be the same?

Any ideas and thoughts on this are greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Jochen

      Hi Jochen,

SUPER interesting find, thanks for pointing this out, Jochen.

To me, this looks like Google understands that these two pages are the same page, except for different devices, and is using information on the desktop page to make their search results more robust for mobile.

You can see the connection by looking for Google's cache of your mobile page. The best way to do this is to search in Google for "cache:[URL]". If you search for "cache:http://m.avogel.ch/de/ihre-gesundheit/erkaeltung/alles_ueber_erkaeltungen.php", Google will send you to the desktop version of the page.

Here's my theory: Google has one index for both desktop and smartphone users, so it combines data and gives the user the best result possible. Google's doing more and more to try to improve its search results even without SEO intervention, so I'm not too surprised about this, but can't seem to find this in any SEO articles out there.

In answer to your question: I recommend that you continue to keep you mobile and desktop sites similar enough that Google is pulling from both. In the past, some SEOs would build sites differently for mobile users, but I've never seen any UX studies that shows that that's a better approach. Given that Google strongly recommends that you use responsive web design, it's certainly not Google's recommended approach.

I hope this helps? I'm not sure if this was a post because you were worried about something - this seems like good news to me!

      Kristina

        Thanks again!

If I am doing "mobile friendly test" for the page Google doesn't seem to have any problems accessing the mobile version. If also crawled the page with googles mobile crawler in screamingfrog and again there were not issues.

        https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fm.avogel.ch%2Fde%2Fihre-gesundheit%2Ferkaeltung%2Falles_ueber_erkaeltungen.php

So I don't think the rather unusual behavior of not beeing able to access the mobile site with a desktop browser has an impact on my question regarding the desktop "rich snippets for ratings" showing up in mobile search results.

Is this how you intended the site to work/ (ie as described above)

For example if you go to any of these 3 sites:
          http://www.ticketmaster.com.au/
          www.ticketek.com.au
          www.bankwest.com.au

Then after that load their mobile site without deleting any cookies or changing any user agents, all the mobile sites load up straight away:

          m.ticketmaster.com.au
          m.ticketek.com.au and
          m.bankwest.com.au

Have a look through this Google Artilcle which might help:

Thanks for the feedback. I get the mobile page loaded in my browser (only) after deleting all cookies from the site and using the Chrome extension "User-Agent Switcher".

http://m.avogel.ch/de/ihre-gesundheit/erkaeltung/alles_ueber_erkaeltungen.php - Mobile Page... are you 100% sure that is set up correctly? I've tried to load the mobile version in my browser and keeps redirecting me to full site. Even using the mobile emulator on Chrome I cant log up the mobile site keeps redirrecting to full site.

All other websites that I know that have a m. subdomain for mobile site load up with no issues at all in computer Browser.

Is the mobile site made using one of the Mobile Apps or something similar?

I would suggest try use Google Webmaster tools and use the 'Fetch & Render' option so you can see how Google is rendering the mobile page

                    Page Optimization Error

Hi, I am trying to track a page optimization feature for one of my project, https://shinaweb.com but i keep getting this below error: "PAGE OPTIMIZATION ERROR
There was a problem loading this page. Please make sure the page is loading properly and that our user-agent, rogerbot, is not blocked from accessing this page." I checked robots.txt file, it all looks fine. Not sure what is the problem? Is it a problem with Moz or the website?

Will it upset Google if I aggregate product page reviews up into a product category page?

We have reviews on our product pages and we are considering averaging those reviews out and putting them on specific category pages in order for the average product ratings to be displayed in search results. Each averaged category review would be only for the products within it's category, and all reviews are from users of the site, no 3rd party reviews. For example, averaging the reviews from all of our boxes products pages, and listing that average review on the boxes category page. My question is, will this be doing anything wrong in the eyes of Google, and if so how so? -Derick

Listing all services on one page vs separate pages per service

My company offers several generalized categories with more specific services underneath each category. Currently the way it's structured is if you click "Voice" you get a full description of each voice service we offer. I have a feeling this is shooting us in the foot. Would it be better to have a general overview of the services we offer on the "Voice" page that then links to the specified service? The blurb about the service on the overview page would be unique, not taken from the actual specific service's page.

                    Home page or landing page?

Hello, I want to ask a question related to that - Should we put keywords in the home page title if we wish to position another landing page better for particular keywords? I have read in one website about SEO that it's good the main keywords of your website to be positioned in homepage title also. f.e. Let's say we have website about web-design and our company is named Company Ltd. The title of the home page is "Company Ltd.  - Web design, SEO, etc" We have also another inner page named "Web design | Company Ltd.". So should we leave the first page name only "Company Ltd." and the landing page's name "Web design | Company Ltd." . I don't know if they both have the same keyword in their title they won't compete with each other.

301 redirects from several sub-pages to one sub-page

Hi! I have 14 sub-pages i deleted earlier today. But ofcourse Google can still find them, and gives everyone that gives them a go a 404 error. I have come to the understading that this wil hurt the rest of my site, at least as long as Google have them indexed. These sub-pages lies in 3 different folders, and i want to redirect them to a sub-page in a folder number 4. I have already an htaccess file, but i just simply cant get it to work! It is the same file as i use for redirecting trafic from mydomain.no to www.mydomain.no, and i have tried every kind of variation i can think of with the sub-pages. Has anyone perhaps had the same problem before, or for any other reason has the solution, and can help me with how to compose the htaccess file? 🙂 You have to excuse me if i'm using the wrong terms, missing something i should have seen under water while wearing a blindfold, or i am misspelling anything. I am neither very experienced with anything surrounding seo or anything else that has with internet to do, nor am i from an englishspeaking country. Hope someone here can light up my path 🙂 Thats at least something you can say in norwegian...

                    URL for location pages

Hello all We would like to create clean, easy URLs for our large list of Location pages. If there are a few URLs for each of the pages, am I right when I'm saying we would like this to be the canonical? Right now we would like the URL to be: For example
Domain.com/locations/Columbus I have found some instances where there might be 2,3 or more locations in the same city, zip. My conclusion for these would be: adding their Branch id's on to the URL
Domain.com/locations/Columbus/0304 Is this an okay approach? We are unsure if the URL should have city,State, zip for SEO purposes?
The pages will have all of this info in it's content
BUT what would be best for SEO and ranking for a given location? Thank you for any info!
