What's more important? Facebook fans, or likes?
-
Until now, I've been focusing on getting Facebook likes for my site, and amassed quite a lot.
However it felt like I was missing an opportunity by not connecting directly to my audience. So I created a Facebook page which my site visitors can like.
But this means having to promote two different things: a "facebook like" for my site, and a "facebook like" for my facebook page, which seems silly.
So, I was wondering if:
-
there is a way to combine the likes of my site to the likes of my FB page? Or a way for a visitor to like both through a single click?
-
what's more important to Google: FB-likes to your site, or to your FB-page?
Thank you!

Very interesting. Marc, James and Ryan: thanks for your insight guys!

No. Liking your facebook page is not the same thing as liking a page on your website. Facebook would not want any confusion for their users. It needs to be clear which content is being liked.
what's more important to Google: FB-likes to your site, or to your FB-page?
If I had a choice, I would want someone to like my facebook page. When someone likes your facebook page, any time you publish content on your facebook page it will be updated on each user's facebook wall. You establish a communications channel with every person who liked your page. You can let people know about a sale or some news that might be interesting to them. You should exercise discretion because if you send out a bunch of spam or unwanted updates, they can unlike your page.
When users like a page on your site, a link is created on their facebook page mentioning your website's article. All of the user's friends can see the link, follow it and comment on it. They may like it as well and this drives traffic.

Hi,
I think the best way for you to set up your site is to -
1. Run the Facebook Page API on the website here - http://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/
Then also add likes to content pages on your website where people will like the content.
2. The whole debate around if Google can even value Facebook likes is an argument on itself, Alot of people claim FB likes hold no value and the best thing to use is FB share buttons - discussion can be found here.

I think the best strategy is to test multiple share buttons from social sites, see what has influence it has on ranks.
IMO Goolge+ will be a big player in this space we will see more in the near future.

I do not have a definitive answer for you, just some thoughts.
In terms of SEO, having likes for your site and its individual pages probably makes more sense than fan page likes. Although how popular your FB page could tie into how popular Google thinks your brand is. In anycase, how much access Google has to FB is unknown and all these social signals are changing at a very fast pace, just recently Google stopped using Twitter in the same way and with the introduction of Google+ who knows what the future will hold.
Just to throw something else into the mix, Facebook shares is something else which I think is pretty important in all this. So that is potentially 3 things!
Some good reads, but be aware this stuff could have changed already:

Facebook Instant Articles Not Working
I'm getting the following error on Instant Articles despite my site having substantial traffic and hundreds of articles. The provided URL is not being accepted because the site has minimal readership, which violates the Instant Article Policies (https://developers.facebook.com/docs/instant-articles/policy/). Facebook Ads Frequency Setting in Ad Set
Hello Guys, I have something which annoyes me already a long time with FB Ads. When you set up a campaign and an ad set and you have in your ad set 3 different ads (which makes totally sense to test them against each other) facebook is deciding really often way too early which ad might be the best ad. Often the algorithm starts to prefer one ad already after a few hundred impressions and the other ads are not getting any impressions any more. I cannot find an option like in Google Adwords that just all Ads are shown the same amount of times and that I can decide then on my own which ad I prefer to run. Unfortunately I cannot find anywhere an option to disable this 'auto-optimization' and I didn't find anyhting in the web as well. Would be pretty happy if someone can help me with this problem! Thanks!

Facebook Page - About/Description/General About/Mission - Questions
Hi, Im just setting up a FB fan page for a client How terrible is it to use clients websites home page descriptive copy as the Facebook page long description ? Language is in Turkish which i don't speak so i'm not able to edit a new version of it just for FB and no budget to hire Turkish speaker to come up with something. So was going to copy & paste but that would be duplicate with HP obviously. How important is it to fill in 'Mission Statement' & 'General About' ? Especially if long description likely to already include that info ? I think long descrip is important for FB pages on seo etc etc but a good one eliminates importance of 'Mission' & 'General About', or is it still advisable to fill these in or are they just extra boxes for flexibility ? I take it when it comes to securing a vanity url (once we hit 25+ fans) for a foreign language version FB page it should ideally be brand name (which includes a keyword) in the local/target language ? The page name is already the brand name in English but since contains keyword is it best to rename into local target language similarly to the url for consistency and local targeting or better to keep one in Turkish and one in English ? Many Thanks Dan

Facebook Apps
Just discovered this site http://northsocial.com/examples/ They charge a few dollars a day to use their Facebook apps. However, I am thinking it will be pretty simple to develop apps like these ourselves. Also, once the app is created we can use it for all of our social media accounts. Wanted to get some opinions on the matter. My questions are: 1. Do apps help generate more likes? 2. Can Apps be promoted? 3. Is it challenging to create a Facebook app? 4. Are Facebook apps worth investment of time?

Leveraging Facebook to Increase Domain Authority
We have a significant following on facebook with over 6,000 fans, but very few "likes" or "shares" of our homepage. Do fans in anyway affect our sites domain authority and what is the best way to leverage our fan base to increase our DA?

Best practices to add Facebook comments to wordpress blog?
Our website (noahsdad.com) has a very large and active Facebook group (http://facebook.com/noahsdadcom). Often there are more comments on the Facebook posting of a link, than on the blog post itself. I try to get people go and leave comments on the blog, but they don't get it. So I'd like to try to find a way to get Facebook comments to transfer to our site. I"m not sure the best way to do this....either via a plug in, or via these instructions https://developers.facebook.com/attachment/Comments_Best_Practices_FINAL.pdf/ I'd just like to get it going..and not mess up the comment's I have now. (Also not everyone has Facebook, so I'd like them to still be able to comment the 'old' way (name/email). Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction with this. Thanks.
