Is a link inside a video player considered an inbound link from the domain the player is embedded in?
-
Good afternoon...We just added a link to our homepage inside the menu of our video player. In the link below, if you click on the menu icon in the bottom right corner of the video player, you'll see a "Powered by WellcomeMat" link at the bottom of the menu.
My question for the community is would that link be considered an inbound link from any site that has the video player embedded? So hypothetically, the video player is embedded into www.abcd.com. If a user would click on that link and go to our homepage, would search engines recognize that as an inbound link from abcd.com, even though it sits within our video player? And most of the time, the player sits within an iframe. So that's why I'm not 100% sure.
Thanks for reading and for your help! It's much appreciated!!

Thanks Peter...Greatly appreciate your help! Much appreciated!! Have a great holiday.

- No. Now users insert only embed link into their sites. They can't see other links inside of your iframe.
- No. Iframes are only dofollow.
So i show on mine second example (PR9) how other do linkbuilding directly with dofollow link in other sites. Later they removed this link in page rendering anyway. So bots see it, users can't see it.
Anyway - your implementation is pure and look clean. But you know "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone". So you can inspect other embedding implementations like Disqus and get some ideas.

Thanks for your quick response, Peter! I greatly appreciate it! I definitely see the link spam argument.
This is what our embed code looks like:
<iframe id="player" width="640" height="360" src="http://www.wellcomemat.com/embed/kt216e25172416n/" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" webkitallowfullscreen=""></iframe>
A few followup questions:
-
Since the 'powered by' link sits inside our player and not actually in the code snippet that would be added to an external site's source code, would adding the rel=nofollow even been seen by search engines? I'm guessing not.
-
And to that point, would the rel=nofollow attribute help prevent penalties from embeds on low quality sites?
-
-
Not really. Will explain this. Let site X embed your V video into page Y. You think that X/Y will give boost to WelcomeMat. What's happening:
X/Y linking WelcomeMat/V (as iframe) and there is link to WelcomeMat
As you can see site X already linking WelcomeMat. And link inside WelcomeMat about WelcomeMat is now internal linking betweek WelcomeMat.That's why IMHO from SEO point of view there isn't value. Just meaningless. But now let's see from user point of view. Site X/Y link some video and user want to learn more about real estate, offer or site. Then they can click on link and will go to your site. And there "magic" happen because you get new visitor from this video.
Anyway - if you need pure link from other sites then you can learn about Disqus way:
https://www.jitbit.com/alexblog/241-how-disquscom-got-their-google-pr9/
as you can see their linking/embedding code that you copy on your page comes with direct link to them. But you should be very carefully prepare this because this link can went you on troubles later:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356?hl=en
http://searchengineland.com/official-googles-latest-official-stance-on-links-within-widgets-181475
since this is "widget linkbuilding". There is change in policy and you should evaluate them extremely carefully. Also please note that once people place this code on their sites this link to WelcomeMat is now out of your control. This mean that you can receive links from low-quality sites, penalized sites, overseas sites, etc. Later this can trigger Penguin algorithm. That's why you need to evaluate all pros and cons wisely.
Ah and BTW - house look AMAZING!

Site Redesign - Inbound Links
Hello all. What would be some of the best practices or good resources on site redesign while maintaining inbound links? We would hate to have the natural, organic links to the site we have generated over the past 3 years to all of a sudden become broken. The domain is not changing but the URL structure very well may. For example, www.domain dot com/blog/postabouttopic which has many inbound links may move to www.domain dot com/news/blog/postabouttopic Is it a matter of simply using 301 redirects from the old pages to the new pages? Is there any issues to be aware of when having hundreds of 301 redirects? Is there a best practice? A good site that explains this in detail? Thank you for your time! Have a great day!

Link Juice + multiple links pointing to the same page
Scenario
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Mark_Ch
The website has a menu consisting of 4 links Home | Shoes | About Us | Contact Us Additionally within the body content we write about various shoe types. We create a link with the anchor text "Shoes" pointing to www.mydomain.co.uk/shoes In this simple example, we have 2 instances of the same link pointing to the same url location.
We have 4 unique links.
In total we have 5 on page links. Question
How many links would Google count as part of the link juice model?
How would the link juice be weighted in terms of percentages?
If changing the anchor text in the body content to say "fashion shoes" have a different impact? Any other advise or best practice would be appreciated. Thanks Mark0 -
Should we move a strong category page, or the whole domain to new domain?
We are debating moving a strong category page (and subcategory, product pages) from our current older domain to a new domain vs just moving the whole domain. The older domain has DA 40+, and the category page has PA 40+. Anyone with experience on how much PR etc will get passed to a virgin domain if we just redirect olddomain/strongcategorypage/ to newdomain.com? If the answer is little to none, we might consider just moving the whole site since the other categories are not that strong anyway. We will use 301 approach either way. Thanks!

Domain Choise
Hello, Im working a e-commerce shop, and my question is about choosing the domain. Presently the website is not performing good with the domain www.casaobjecto.com, that is the brand name of the shop. Now I have made my analysis about keywords and conclude that it would be very interesting to have a domain name with the main keyword that im targeting. The domain is available. If I choose the maintain the www.casaobjecto.com as main domain and the other keyword domain pointing to that site, whats the influence that can take in the keyword im looking for? Or should I replace the target keyword domain (becomes the main domain) by the brand domain name? Whats the best choice? Tks in advance, Pedro M Pereira

Footer Link
Hello, Some of my hosted clients don't mind if I put a footer link on the bottom of their website. I would like to put a footer link that looks like Seomoz's - http://imgur.com/GrC8y Basically it would look like so: "Powered by "my company name". The world's #1 "keyword" provider (LOGO goes here) Here are my questions: 1. Would this hurt or help my rankings? 2. Should the logo be hosted by my clients so that a different ip is hosting my logo (where my image name will get picked up)? Or is it best to host it myself? 3. If my company name and keyword are getting linked, is that one link too many? 4. Is it a good idea to use a different keyword so that other keywords get picked up by SERPs, or should I set myself up on one keyword ? Thank you so much! Shawn

Increasing Internal Links But Avoiding a Link Farm
I'm looking to create a page about Widgets and all of the more specific names for Widgets we sell: ABC Brand Widgets, XYZ Brand Widgets, Big Widgets, Small Widgets, Green Widgets, Blue Widgets, etc. I'd like my Widget page to give a brief explanation about each kind of Widget with a link deeper into my site that gives more detail and allows you to purchase. The problem is I have a lot of Widgets and this could get messy: ABC Green Widgets, Small XYZ Widgets, many combinations. I can see my Widget page teetering on being a link farm if I start throwing in all of these combos. So where should I stop? How much do I do? I've read more than 100 links on a page being considered a link farm, is that a hardline number or a general guideline?
