Rankings drop from the new update
-
Hello,
I've noticed some big ranking downs on important keywords, from the last Google update, and don't really know what seams to be the problem, but have an assumption. In April 2015 we had 3.000.000 pages indexed by Google, and 80% of them had duplicated content for about 90% of it. The site I'm talking about is http://nobelcom.com/. The duplicated content came from variations between calling from and calling to selections, because each of this selection was making a new url (ex. nobelcom.com/caling from/calling to). If "calling from" and calling to were the same country the url was nobelcom.com/calling-from, but after you chosen another calling to, the url become like the one in the example. To solve this I've decided to keep the nobelcom.com/calling-from urls and for different calling to country to display the content trough a javascript, because it was the same, it changed only the country names and the rates. I thought that this change will help us with the duplicate content, and still deliver our client what they are interested in, without affecting the UX, and also reducing the link juice dilution because we had 3.000.000 indexed by Google and most of them with no added value
Can this be the reason for the drops? Now we have 590.000 pages indexed by Google.

I've made a disavow, and I keep an eye for bad link every month. We had a manual penalty and solve it in July. I see rankings downs for "phone cards" "calling cards", "international phone card", "international calling card" and other variations, and it happen from 10-13 January, when the new core algo was released.

Hello
There could be a lot of issues. It's possible the way you're handling URLs can be a factor.
What specific keywords are you seeing rankings down for? And what was the exact date?
Also, I think links could be a big factor here. There are many with exact match anchors (calling cards, phone cards etc) according to open site explorer. Some of them I checked, and they look like they are on spammy sites (like this for example thenewyorkads .com)
Have you done a link disavow and/or cleanup?

It is normal that the number of pages to drop, that was my idea, because the old urls,nobelcom.com/caling from/calling to, were redirected with 301 to the ones like http://nobelcom.com, so the dropping of the pages was normal, and I wanted that, to reduce the dilution.
No manual action, no bad link, I check my link profile every 2 weeks.

Sounds very much like this fairly large change may be attributed to the alteration of your URL structure/process
Its weird that the number of pages has dropped, so it might be worth logging into Google WebMaster Tools and looking at the "Blocked resources" tab or using the robots.txt checker to see if you are preventing spiders from crawling your website (maybe the script you've added is blocking the search engines)
While you in GMT it is also worth looking at your inbound links to ensure these aren't spammy and double check that you haven't got any Manual webspam warnings (unlikely to be this but worth checking)

Indexing is live what about rankings ?
I noticed that when I request indexing in the webmaster tool my new content is live within minutes. Does it take longer to update the ranking or is the ranking updated as soon as the new page has been indexed. Thank you,

Highly ranked pages to new domain?
Hi everyone! We are ranked #1 for about 30 product pages at www.oldsite.com/product1 and we are wanting to move about 30 of those pages to a new site www.newsite.com/product1 (new domain and hosting - which we own). What is the best way to do this? I'm confused if you recreate those pages on the new domain vs. ftp move them, 301 re-directs, etc. Looking for the things we must do and the sequence to do it all, etc. Thanks so much!

Drop in Ranking for a Reputable Dictionary / April 14, 2017
One of the sites of my customers (a very reputable, high quality dictionary) saw a 46% drop in rankings starting from April 14, 2017. Has anyone else seen something similar and has some tips? Many thanks, Tatiana

Inverse variation in Rankings between countries
Hi, Our ranking between India and USA is varying inversely like....when we improve in India...drops in USA and vice-versa. And the possible correlation I have from my end is: We have reclaimed some links and removed same. It happens at both redirects and removal of those redirects. When we reclaimed some links, we improved in India and dropped in US. And when we removed these redirects, vice-versa. Any idea on this? Please share. Thanks, Satish

Can new domain extensions rank?
Hi Does anybody know if it's possible to get domains with extensions like .party or .world to rank? Even for high competitive keywords? Can they rank over .com?

Drop in Mobile & Tablet Rankings
We have pretty strong rankings and have done since we launched our business in 2004. Over the past two months, we have seen a strong growth in rankings after a bit of a drip last year, however over the past week we have seen a significant drop off in organic traffic. Further analysis has shown that this is coming from mobile/tablet traffic, as the desktop traffic has been fairly consistent. There does appear to be a drop (across all main keywords) on mobile/tablet, but again there is no noticeable drop in desktop rankings. I am obviously aware Google treats these differently, but we can find no obvious reasons why this might have occurred. It is almost as if some sort of penalty has been applied on mobile/tablet only. There are no warnings or obvious problems in webmaster tools and our mobile/tablet site is mobile optimised. At a bit of a loss and would appreciate a bit of guidance in where you think we should start to understand what is causing this and how we should go about correcting it. Thanks in advance for the help.

Rankings appear mixed up causing huge drop in organic
Hi, Our top page appears to have dropped out of the index. The core keyword "business ideas" is still showing us at the top but it's a different post and it's lost all the long-tail. Whats even stranger is that it's not even directly relevant to the topic of business ideas. Looks like something fishy happened here – perhaps due to the recent algo updates. We've always seen a significant increase in organic when anything Panda related updates (c.20%+ growth every time) yet this has compeltely killed us. We spent a long time building this post up, eventually outranking Entrepreneur.com. It's been #1 for Google.co.uk for months. Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated! ikvJVrq

Old and New Google Places Address Update or Create?
Working on SEO for client who is at a new address. Luckily? there are no google reviews attached to the old addresses (there 2). Should I try to update one of the old ones? Or should I just go ahead and create a new listing? What are the pros and cons of each decision.
