Is OSE having problems?
-
The healthpage says it is operational but I'm getting a ton of 'There was an error getting your data' messages. First I thought, it just happens to smaller pages, since testing it with moz.com worked. But even pages like nbc.com give me this error. I tried logging out an in again and even swithcing browsers - without success.
Anyone else having problems like this right now?
Cheers, Chris

Hi there! Tawny from Moz's Help Team here.
I'm so sorry you're running into this issue! We're experiencing some issues with our API this morning, which is why you're seeing these errors. The team is investigating the issue now and we hope to have things back up and running as soon as possible. We've updated our health page to reflect the current issues we're seeing.
Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime!

Thanks guys for letting me know I'm not the only one getting these errors. Right now it works, but great to know someone is already looking into this.
Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris,
I've been getting this for the last month or so. Sometimes I have to try 2-3 times but it eventually works and hasn't caused me too many issues. I figured it might've just been a busy time of the day...or it maybe it was my slow internet connection at the time...I really don't know.
Would love to know if this is a known problem that's being looked at, but like I said, it doesn't cause me too many dramas and I don't think I've had to retry more than 3 times.
Hopefully someone from Moz can say why this might be happening
Cheers,
David

Open Site Explorer Problem
Have been trying to use Open Site Explorer this morning and just returning an error message "There was an error getting your data" or the cog whirring round for ages and not doing anything. Is it a general problem or is it just my PC?

Why does OSE show different link equity for homepage with and without trailing slash?
Hi all, I am working with a developer who believes OSE (Open Site Explorer) is flawed. His reasoning is that OSE shows completely different link equity and domain authority for these two URLs [company name is purposely withheld]: http://www.mydomain.com/us/ and http://www.mydomain.com/us NOTE: http://www.mydomain.com/us has been properly 301-redirecting to http://www.mydomain.com/us/ for years. The developer's argument is that the URL that is being 301-redirected shouldn't have any link equity at all, therefore OSE is flawed. Here is the response I would like to give him. Please feel free to poke holes, provide feedback or flat out correct me if I am wrong: Dear inquisitive developer, Any URL that is being linked to by another site that has link equity will get link equity passed to it. This is true even if the URL is a page that doesn't exist. What it can't do (if it doesn't exist) is then pass that link equity on to another page. Moz's OSE is showing separate link equity for the two versions of this URL because other sites have linked to both versions. The fact that one 301-redirects to the other is good and ensures that link equity from one is passing to the preferred URL. The 301-redirect does not, however, remove link equity from the first URL, but rather passes the existing link equity from one to the other. Consequently, Moz's OSE is not flawed, but rather is displaying the link equity of one URL that is benefiting the other via a 301-redirect. Sincerely, Dana

Can't make sense of OSE and MOZ.
I checked this site on my OSE and it shows only 7 inbound links a DA of 14 and no social activity whatsoever yet when I check it on Majestic it shows ExternalBacklinks 71 ReferringDomains 20 Referring IPs 19 Referring Subnets 19 . And.. the page is #1 on google search for hypnotherapy michigan. How can it rate so poorly on MOZ, show so much more on majestic and rank so high on google? I thought MOZ data was supposed to be among the best and that top rated pages on google should also rate high on MOZ. here is the site http://hypnotherapy-detroit.com Additionally, when i look at the site, i notice that most of the backlinks are exchanged links and this site's link exchange page isn't even linked from the home page. Now I thought that kind of link exchange game was now discounted by Google. I don't get it. No social pages at all... low page rank... no new content.. so by MOZ standards there is no justification for this page to be anywhere near page one let alone at position #1. Can someone help me make sense of all this?

Updating OSE data
Hello Moz, I was wondering if anyone knows how Moz goes about updating their OSE data? I've been doing some link building that past couple of weeks, and I notice that the number of "just discovered" links will update every time I gain a new link, however, the "Linking domains" number doesn't (or maybe, rarely) update. I've checked through the "Linking domains" list to see if the link is there, but none of the links I've just recently obtained have shown up under that metric. Does anyone have any insight on this or is anyone experiencing the same issue? Thanks for reading!

Expired domains and OSE?
If a domain expires will it remain in OSE indefinitely and show external backlinks? Or at some point does the domain get removed from OSE?
