Locked out of YP listing?
-
I'm working on a listings project for a client that has a well established business. Overall we are in great shape, but we've hit a snag with the YP (yellowpages.com) listing. We are not able to access or claim the listing to update it. Customer service claims to have no way to allow us access without the original email address that some former employee must have used to set up the listing. They are telling us the only option is to mark the listing as closed, and start fresh. This would lose us some reviews, although those are pretty old and were imported from Citysearch, so it would not be a huge loss.
Has anyone else ran into a similar issue with YP when trying to manually manage their listing? Any suggestions to overcome this problem?

Hi Ira,
Yes, I think if you can go through a service that manages YP listings, it might be worth it. I see you've started a new thread about Synup. Popping over there.

Thanks. The other option I'm considering is signing them up with Yext or Synup, which in theory would get us access. Any thoughts on either of those?

Hey Ira,
I agree with Kevin, given that it sounds like you've run out of options with YP's customer support. Just be sure you do close out the old listing and don't end up with duplicates. It's kind of odd that YP says they will close a listing, but won't let you reclaim it. Strange policy.
I wish YP was a Moz Local partner so that we could surface and manage the listing for you, but they're not in our network
Sorry there's not a better solution for you here.

Ira.
Yes, YP and several other directory sites are very difficult to work with. Since your reviews come from Citysearch, I would start over.

Local Listing Submissions: Best Bang for Your Buck
I have a client that has ~30 office locations. Normally, if a business has 1-2 locations then I just submit through Moz Local. However, the marketing director won't approve a $1000+ annual local submissions package. My question: What strategy or service do you recommend that would allow me to submit these 30 locations to the best directories that I can without spending an excessive amount of budget and time? More specifically, if you had around 4 hours and ~$300 to spend on submitting 30 locations, how would you do it?

Local Listing - Service Business with Three Areas Served
A client of mine owns a business that is a service (i.e. they do not have a storefront). They service three major markets - Atlanta, GA; Charlotte, NC; Nashville, TN. When talking to the Google My Business team, they said we needed to set up only one listing based on where we were headquartered (which is Atlanta) and then list that we service the other markets so that it shows in the listing. So we have one business listing set up as a service but headquartered in Atlanta and show the service area as Atlanta, Nashville and Charlotte. Does this seem correct? There is a lot of competition for them so looking to boost local search as much as possible. Thanks!

Transferring ownership of a listing and renaming it - what can happen?
Hi All, We have a local business with multiple store fronts. We've recently bought a competitors store front, that store front has a local Google listing. We would like to do 2 things: 1. Transfer the ownership of the listing from their accounts to ours. 2. Renaming and re-branding the listing (and of course the office) My questions is, what can happen once we do that? Transferring the ownership is a simple task as i've seen it on Googles guidelines so is renaming it (technically speaking). Will this affect the listing itself? Rankings/Verification and anything else that may come up? Thanks a lot for the answers!
