GA: How do I preserve custom dimension across domain and subdomain?
-
Using custom dimensions our site tracks logged-in vs not logged-in users on our shop site (shop.example.com). A user can only login on the shop.example.com.
The problem is when the logged in user visits our the main domain (example.com), we lose the custom dimension and the user becomes anonymous. At this point, if the user goes back to shop.example.com, the logged-in custom dimension comes back.
How do I preserve the logged-in user dimension across the main domain?

Read more about setting up a linker here in Google Analytics: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/linker this will make sure that you can at least have cross domain tracking.

I'm not familiar with "linkers". How do I make sure GA is using linkers? Thanks.
-
Hi,
The logic for a custom dimension can't usually be just passed on. But what you could do is make sure that Google Analytics is using the linkers to connect the shop subdomain to the root of the site. Which will make sure that the cookies for both do overlap and then you can apply the same logic to see if the user is logged in or not.

Do custom tracking codes affect indexing?
Hello, My company uses a tracking system that allows our employees to apply a short code snippet to the end of our URLs for marketing attribution. An example of such a code would be: https://www.schoolofmotion.com/?ref_id=moz-test However, in Google Analytics we are seeing duplicates of our content, where the pages with the individual tracking codes are counted separately from the pages without. From a reporting perspective, this is annoying and definitely worth a fix. However, I'm curious if this problem is affecting our search potential as well. Could this tracking system be splitting traffic in Google's eyes? From an SEO perspective, how should we approach this? Would canonical tags fix this duplication issue in Google Analytics? Is there something else that we should use? Thanks in advance. The Moz community is incredible.

URL open with double domain names when click on visit URL link in Google Analytics
I have configured Advance Filter to track the sub-domains traffic as follow : Filter
Reporting & Analytics | | gamesecure
Type: Custom filter > Advanced Field A: Hostname Extract A: (.*) Field B: Request URI Extract B: (.*) Output To: Request URI Constructor: $A1$B1 After that, I am able to see sub-domains record and View Full Page URL In Reports. But when I check reports in All page (e.g. Behavior >> All Pages) or selecting Landing Page as a Primary Dimension. Further I click on Icon given next to displayed Full URL to visit to same domain page, in browser the page
opened but the double domain name comes so page not open successfully. For example : In landing page list following URL given : www.sitegeek.com/compareHosting/arvixe_vs_hostgator If I click on icon given next the displayed URL, in browser following URL will
open https://sitegeek.comwww.sitegeek.com/compareHosting/arvixe_vs_hostgator Is this First Domain with HTTPs, coming from Google Analytic 'View' where this is taken ? How Can I remove double domains? Thanks, Rajiv0 -
GA visitor number inconsistencies?
Hey Mozzers Recently a client of ours undertook a paid campaign using Taboola and have a vast difference between reported clicks and visitors reported by GA. On further investigation the _utm.gif event is sent to google-analytics.com 50% of the time and stat.g.doubleclick.net the remaining 50% of the time Is this likely to be the cause of the discrepancy and if so is it possible to resolve this without removing the remarketing tag (which seems to be responsible for stats.g.doublelclick.net). Many thanks Justin

Tracking Goals on a Subdomain?
What needs to be done to Analytics to track goal completions on a subdomain? The main Analytics profile is set up for example.com, but landing pages for paid campaigns are set up at sub.example.com. Thank-you page is sub.example.com/thank-you.php What needs to be modified in Analytics (or to the Analytics code) or how do the goals need to be set up to track these subdomain conversions all within the same Analytics profile? They're not tracking currently. Thanks.

Google Analytics Customer filters & the correct syntax
Good afternoon from torential rain and thunder Wetherby UK 😞 Ive been delving into the world of custom filters in Google analytics and Ive hit a problem. Apart from Googles advice being out of date (wont get into that one) I wanted to set up clone a profile of an existing site and set up a filter that would exclde USA traffic. But a country can be called many things e.g. United Sates USA America so how do you know what is the correct name to put in the filter pattern box? Here is a screen shot of my efforts :http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/filter-toexclude-usatrafficcopy.jpg (I chaned it to United States) So my question is where is there a list of the correct syntax for the filter pattern box? Taker for example you wnated to set up a custom filter to include just Palm OS traffic apprently from reading this the correct filter patter is Palm OS, i only know that from this http://www.e-nor.com/blog/web-analytics/tracking-mobile-devices-in-google-analytics Whilst Google has lots of documentation about filed patterns as documented here http://support.google.com/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1034380&topic=1034830&ctx=topic Where in the name of flying spacial jockstraps is there documentation for the correct filter pattern syntax. Help my head hurts 😞
