I'VE DONE EVERYTHING RIGHT BUT STILL GET LOW GOOGLE RANKING
-
Moz Pro Dashboard compared my site to three competitors' site. My site is better in every aspect. My DA is higher, I have four times more external links, I have more relevant content than my competition, my site also is the fastest, I have solved all redirect issues, there is no broken link internally or externally. We are custom home builders. So all our sites have numerous full screen images. I have optimized all of them. When I ran WebPageTest on my competition, they all fail. My site got A's in all categories.
The three competitors' sites rank first, second and third. My site ranks bottom on the 2nd page. Since my site was online last January, I have spent thousands of dollars on SEO work. Its url is www.pokudesign.com
I am hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. I am attaching a screen shot of my Moz Pro Dashboard.

Apart from content, how old is your URL? The domain age could be impacting your rankings as well.
I would also take a look at how your pages are performing. Do you have a high bounce rate? If users are coming to your website but clicking back to the SERPs, this could be telling Google that your website is not helping the user—thus hurting your rankings.
-
I'm glad it helped, it will be good to have a look at your website in a while and see how are you doing after receiving so many feedbacks
-
Good suggestions. Will implement them one by one. Thanks.

there are several things you could do on your site in order to improve it, SEO is a matter of details so start working on them
- internal links. Many of them have a blank anchor, ensure to put your keywords in there
- content. Add relevant content together with images, show 2 or 3 projects in each area and describe them with a nice attractive text
- Internal architecture. Ensure you're not just linking from the homepage down but also interlink your internal pages among them. Example: http://www.pokudesign.com/services/ why not linking to those services? Give a two lines snippet each and then link to a page for each of them.
- Backlinks. This is painful but rewarding. Get them, a bunch of quality links is fine, don't overdue this a be clean. I don't know your competitors backlinks profile but you want to ensure that you're going high quality.
- blogs. i assume those pages are yours. http://www.pokudesign.com/blogs/ why don't you integrate them in your site? Again add content, be catchy and descriptive, I'm sure you can say a lot of things about the nice things you've done, show people you care google will reward you.
that would be a starting point

I agree with Pixus and ronitoberoi. Content is key.
The only constant (besides change) is the drive to bring well-ranking and high-quality content closer together. Short-term ranking advantages can be derived from what might uncharitably be called “tricks,” but because these are tricks, you can bet that Google will target them eventually. At best, this strategy means wasted time and money. At worst, it means a manual penalty that can have dramatic effects on both rankings and revenue.
By creating GREAT content, and getting high authority backlinks to this content you should hopefully see your rankings improve.
-
Hi, thank you all for your insight and suggestions. I am new to all this.
When ronitoberoi said I had no external links, were these same as the External Inbound Links that showed up in the Moz Pro Links page? It shows I have 189 total external inbound links and 84 linking root domains.

I agree with pixus , You need to be active on social media with great content also.
-
You're social media , is not good
Make Meta Description longer (Ideally between 70 and 160 characters)
Title Tag
1980s GOLD - SOTTSASS DEFINED THE 80S
Length : 37
You have a title tag, and its length is optimal - between 10 and 70 characters.
Meta Description Tag
Brilliant unrecognized designs are making a splash now.
Length : 55
Your page has a meta description. Ideally though, your meta description should be between 70 and 160 characters (spaces included).
-
to HTML Ratio
Ratio : 2%
Your website's ratio of text to HTML content is below 15 percent. This is an indication that your site is very code heavy and complex, making it harder for search engines to identify user content.
Image Alt Attributes
We found 12 images on this web page.
10 of your images have alt attributes empty or missing. Add alternative text so that search engines can better understand the content of your images and index them.

Alright, well I've just told you that I have had an issue loading the site, so your preloader isn't fully functional.
The only software which matters is Google. You're obviously not doing enough and when you say "I've done everything right" well you clearly haven't.
My advice, and what I think pixus is also referring to is to build quality content and not rate it based on what online tools are saying.
-
Page loading speed was never an issue. I got comments about how fast my site loaded. Actually I test it everyday with WebPageTest and I still get mostly A's.
My site certainly is not perfect. There are still lots of things that my site needs to improve on. I am just comparing it to the top ranking competitor. What I try to rank is "Custom Home Builders" and it's not such a highly competitive keyword (locally anyway). The top ranking site <cite class="_Rm">www.rshomes.ca/ </cite>gets about the same ranking as my site does in Nibbler which ranks my site 7.7 and rhhomes 7.9. In fact for content, my site surpasses rshomes'.
I also find www.rshomes.ca/ loads much slower than my site. I use <cite class="_Rm">www.bytecheck.com/ </cite> to check my first byte time which is 0.099sec and rshomes' is 1.037sec., more than ten times slower.
How do they get to the top and stay there for so long?
-
I've just loaded your home page, I can't even see anything. Your preloader is so slow it took me 30 seconds before I got berod and did a force refresh.
You're missing 18 h1 tags, you've got 9 redirects.
http://www.pokudesign.com/services/ for example is actually a really poor quality page.
I can only see 33 pages of actual content, that doesn't seem to be that many for what you could potentially have (case studies would be phenomenal for you)

Why am I ranking high for a keyword that is nowhere on my page?
There is a specific keyword phrase that I am ranking in the top 10 search results for. When I run page optimizer in Moz, my page is given a score of 73 and I'm predictably told I need to include this keyword somewhere on the page. This specific keyword phrase is not included anywhere on the page - not in image files, image alts, anchor text from inbound links (that I can find), text content, meta-titles or descriptions - it's nowhere. Meanwhile, a keyword phrase which Moz' page optimizer tells us we are scored 96 for we aren't even in the first three pages of search results for. What's going on here? On the surface, this seems to be telling me the Moz page optimizer is kinda...broken? Why am I ranking in the top 10 for a keyword phrase nowhere on my page? Thanks in advance for any help.

Does Google really care about cheaters?
In analysing my competitors website I have discovered that they have over 600 fake pages that appear to have been created by some sort of internal search engine software, all pages are exactly alike except for the keyword and the words "no results found" on every page. I have discovered, elsewhere, that their duplicate content is abnormally high, and that their pages are stuffed with keywords.(in on page grader) I come out top in every section in Moz open site explorer, except internal links and total links. Yet they sit at number 1, while my site is number 2, I believe that copying their antics would surely make me fall foul of Google, and certainly would never risk it. but with the keyword only getting 30 searches a month, are google bothered about them doing this, should I resign myself to not being number 1 and is there anyone on this Forum who believes that I should use the same tactics, to get above them.

Universal rankings has made my page not show in rankings any more
We've had a page with a video on it for ages; it always ranks well, generally around no. 5. But I've noticed that it's now ignored in SEMOZ as a page, and only shows as a Universal Result - so it looks as though our top page is no. 22, even thought the video shows as an icon still in the same position, no. 5. That's annoying as I now have to explain to my stakeholders how come our rankings appear to have dropped off a cliff - when i fact they haven't. The page appears in google SERPS exactly as it always has. Can anything be done to make it appear back as it did in SEMOZ? Thanks

What's the future of SERP Tracking? And... Is SEOMoz's SERP Rank Tracking in compliance with Google Adwords API Terms of Service?
My question is: Is SEOMoz's SERP Rank Tracking in compliance with Google Adwords API Terms of Service? Background: The reason I ask is because Raven Tools is now removing their SERP Reporting tool because it uses scraped Google position data. So, it looks like SEO's will either have to find a new rank tracking tool or find new ways to traffic the effects that rankings have on a website traffic volumes. For instance, there is a way to get the position a search results was in Google when it was clicked. We could create a secondary profile in Google Analytics for each client and use a custom filter to record the position that the keywords was in when the search result was clicked ( http://www.seomoz.org/blog/show-keyword-position-using-filters-and-advanced-segments ) Or perhaps we'll have to use Google Webmaster Tools' SEO Report to get data somehow ( http://support.google.com/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1308626 ) What are your thoughts on this? As you know, ranking data is still a great way to show clients if they are gaining or losing visibility in the search engines. It helps SEO's to report how effective their efforts have been. Because other ranking software companies uses Adwords API data to show the keyword search volume and advertiser competition of a keyword, they can not or eventually will not be able to use scraped ranking data any more. But, if another rank tracking tool out there doesn't need to be in compliance with the Adwords API TOS because they don't use that API to show search volume and advertiser competition, they can still technically provide their ranking data and not be violating any TOS, right? I'm just trying to understand the best way to continue reporting impact of organic keyword rankings on a website. Does the SEOMoz SERP Tracker comply with Adwords API? Is there another rank tracking tool out there that already is using Average Position data from the GWT SEO Report tool? Should we all just stop reporting rankings to clients altogether? Scott

Are seomoz ranking in jeopardy?
A few weeks ago Raventools announced that they would no longer be able to provide tools based on the adwords API, then withdrew that. Rand commented on a thread here discussing that and made similar noises. Today Raventools made an announcement as SERP tracking with wording that sounded a lot like it had more than a little influence from Google. Would I be really paranoid to be wondering whether the Rankings tools in seomoz could be at risk?

Moztool and on page ranking matching
How does the Moztool compare and filter the search phrases you enter in your campaign? Or more correctly, will it filter out stop words or is it an exact match? For example I enter a phrase to track that say: "book ski trip austria" Identified in Google I see that most users search for just that "book ski trip austria" But in content, I cant write that as that is uncorrect english and I want to maby write something like: "When you book a ski trip to austria you get..." How will this affect my on page SEO report, will it still match and mark a "V" in done or show a an error? Even more interesting is, what happen if you do phrases in different order like "An austrian skip trip will make you feel..."

Sudden drop in rankings
I've been working on a site since it launched in April and the rankings for all targeted keywords have been creeping up in that time. For example the site was position 5 for "satchel" and 6 for "satchels". I've just had the latest rankings report from SeoMoz and it is showing "not in top 50" for both keywords and big drops on most other keywords. What is the likely explanation for such a big drop? The website is Z atchels.com
