Requesting udpate's from old domain to new domain
-
Hey guys,
We had a domain change three years ago now which was redirected. Many of the old domains have not been updated to the new domain. The redirect is in place. I'm just wondering if there would it be a worthwhile exercise to reach out to sites to request an update of the URL link from an SEO perspective?
Many thanks
Rob

No problem, best of luck

Thank's David, I think it will be useful in cases where the anchor text is showing the old domain.
-
Many thanks, Sean, that article you shared is very useful and could be a real timesaver. I will probably go through some of the processes though as it's the opportunity of spreading some of the authority on other pages that could provide a better landing page.
-
Many thank's Andy, as per Seans response this might seem like a redundant exercise however if I mix up the destinations urls as you suggest well then I may get some benefit to other pages.
-
As long as you have the redirects in place and they are working, you should be good to go. The only case where I could see this being a slight benefit is if you were using a keyword-driven domain, as you could see some slight exact match help in ranking (but I doubt it).
On the flip side, it is nice to have everything matching, so I would look at the time involved in getting all the links updated and see if is worth the time investment.

Hi Rob,
Historically, updating redirects by amending the URL at their source DID pass on SEO value as each redirect chain caused a link to lose a small portion of equity - I believe this is what Andy is referring to.
A few weeks ago, Google announced that this is no longer the case and 301 redirects DON'T lose any equity any longer. This update now means that webmasters no longer have to spend time updating links at their source, rendering the practice of outreach pretty much redundant.
You can check out the blog here - https://moz.com/blog/301-redirection-rules-for-seo
In short, I wouldn't bother with any outreaching as it'll provide zero SEO benefit.
All the best,
Sean -
Hi Rob,
Always worthwhile - from an SEO perspective, it might only be a small benefit, but lots of small benefits do add up.
It also helps if someone clicks on a link and is taken to the page that is indicated rather than being redirected somewhere else.

Gained a number of new 'do-follow' links - Good or Bad?
So, my client's site is on a subdomain of the parent site and there were a number of links previously pointing to the subdomain site from the main site which were all no-follow so were purely for referral/traffic benefits. Around the end of February, the main site changed all the links to 'do-follow'. Is this likely to have caused the decline we've recently seen in organic traffic to the site and a drop in rankings? I'm curious as to how that could have affected the site as we didn't know and have only just found out about it but I'm not sure how to show that it's led to a decline. Any help is appreciated!

Not Receiving Credit for all Linking Domains
Hey guys, So I'm having trouble understanding why we aren't receiving credit for linking root domains by Moz. Our site URL is https://www.expertip.net Google states that we have 3,648 links - most of which were obtained by Yext indexing us for our locations. We don't seem to be getting credit for ANY of those links. Most seem to be reputable, like yellowpages.com, etc. and google shows 156 domains. Any help here can be appreciated. I believe that we've followed best practices as far as root domains and 301s go. I've attached images to show further. Thanks,

Are links from charities really better than 'normal' links.
Hi Guys. Just wondering about this idea that links from Charities are particularly good. I've heard people say that links from .org sites are particularly strong. But anyone can get a .org domain, it's just that charities tend to use them more often. Right? I just don't get the logic. Can anyone give more detail about this? Is it a myth? Is there quality info on this topic I can check out? We're working with several charities at the moment, and they all seem happy to blog and link to us...so I just wanted to know a little more. Isaac.

Odd Link Removal Request
Unless I'm missing something, having gotten into trouble... the company in question is not doing a great job at link removal. Here's an email my client received: Hi Webmaster, I work for xxxxxxxxxxx and our site has recently been penalized by Google for an unnatural link profile that violates Google's Quality Guidelines. As part of an effort to get back in their graces, we are removing all links to our website so we can start fresh. We are making changes to our site to build better content for our audience. I am contacting people who have linked to us in the past to remove any doubt that Google views the link or anchor text as overoptimzed or unnatural. Therefore, I am respectfully requesting that you remove all links to our site on xxxxxxxxxxx including: xxxxxxx That says xxxxxxxxxx and goes to xxxxxxxx. I appreciate your past efforts to link to our content, and I am excited to launch our improved content very soon. We understand that this request takes time and effort, but we would sincerely appreciate your help. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. If you could be so kind as to respond that you have removed the link, it would really help out with my efforts. Thank you in advance!

Best Wishes, xxxxxx All the details and URLS in the email were wrong. After much back and forth, we tracked down a single link from an infographic -- which I removed. But is removing all links really the best strategy? Does it ever make sense?0 -
Link from or 301 Domains?
I have 3 domains that are in the same niche as my main site and not connected in any way. Now my question is should I just link to my main site from each of them on a page that is relevant to my main Keywords or should I 301 them to the site? I am thinking that building a link to my main site would have more effect than 301's. Thanks in advance!

Why is my domain authority 1?
Hello all, I have my own MMA news website which I started almost two years ago. After getting a Seomoz account I noticed that my domain authority for this website (www.mmaplanet.nl) is 1! All my other websites have 'normal' domain authority. Does someone know what might be the problem here? Thanks in advance!
