No difference anymore between 301 and 302

What do you think?

There's a lot of nuance to what is being said there. As others in the community have said, if you were going to test it out yourself on your own site and put your own income and business on the line, would you choose a 302 over a 301 without testing it?
We saw what happened to Wired as they were going HTTPS and used 302s - https://www.wired.com/2016/09/wired-completely-encrypted/
Google has also said, and some people have been able to test for different reasons, that if a 302 is left in place long enough then Google may start treating them like 301s and start passing link equity through a 302. But, that's a lot of ifs and uncertainties, at least way too many for me.

A large grain of salt! Google is notorious for saying these things and then ...well, backing down a bit.
-
They're not saying there's no difference, a 301 is still a permanent redirect and a 302 is a temporary redirect. You should always differentiate between the 2 when choosing to redirect a page elsewhere. What Google is saying now is that they no longer discount a page's authority because of a redirect. However, take this with a grain of salt. This doesn't mean you should go around redirecting wherever and whenever. Your redirects still need to make sense, they need to be as relevant to the old page as possible, and they should always benefit the end-user.

Hi Nancy,
Yes Google said it very clearly but big caveat here and I would suggest you to go through this detailed post of Cyrus.

We recently updated a large guide that takes the place of the original. The original has some nice organic traffic to it and I don't want to risk losing it. Should I 301 redirect to the new version, or update all the info directly on the original page?
We don't have a lot of content that garners much non-branded organic, so this is something I don't want to risk losing. We do not have a whole lot of external links into the page either.

How do you handle different business locations for search?
Would like to get peoples suggestion on how you handle different business locations in different cities. We have tried multiple tactics for different clients. Some have worked better than others. Example: We have a window company that does great in Austin. Now they want to move into Dallas. In the past, we have created "landing pages" optimized for that locality. However, with Googles new updates I dont think this will work anymore. With others, we have added a "tab" and have similar pages of the entire site optimized for that location. This seems to have been working better. What are your suggestion of how you handle different locations from city to city. Any input is appreciated! Thanks! Charles

Best Tactics/Approach to Rank Keywords in Different GEOs
Hi Folks, I would like to have your opinion on the best ways/approaches we need to take if we want to rank the same keywords in different GEOs. To consider, I have a set of 100+ keywords which I would like to rank up in different GEOs, for example 6 different countries and some of these are not English, say france and UAE. What would be the best approach to deal in this case on a logical basis? Any suggestions?

Is 302 Redirect a bad thing in SEO terms?
I am getting a lot of "302 (Temporary Redirects) = True" on many of my product URL's. What does it mean? Is it a bad thing to get these redirects? And how to fix them? Thanks.

Why does SEOmoz use /blog/content-title vs /category/content-title? Any difference?
Assume a brand new blog being designed and all other things equal. What are the pros & cons between using the url structure /blog/content-title vs. /category/content-title? Note:

How do I fix a 404 with a 301
I understand the need for fixing 404's but I have yet to have a serious walkthrough of how to set up a 301. From all the talk on the forums and such I'm pretty sure this is easy but I've just never done it before and I could really use a walk through. Thanks
