Lost backlinks following switch from http to https
-
I have a client who appears to have taken a big hit in a few areas recently:
- MOZ Domain Authority has dropped from 16 to 1
- In ahrefs, their http version has 103 backlinks from 46 referring domains, but the https version shows 'no data' for backlinks or referring domains
- Their 'average position' in SERPs has fallen from around 32 to 43 in the last six weeks
Ininitally, I thought this might be due to the MOZ indexing problems last month.
However, I now suspect this is connected to their switch from http to https, which occured in mid December. Although all the http pages appear to be redirecting, it looks like the backlinks are not being associated to their https version.
Anyone had experience of this and/or now how to remedy?

This issue just keeps getting murkier and murkier...
Even though ahrefs 'overview' reports 104 backlinks from 46 domains, when I go to The Best Pages by Backlinks, it says there are 691 results with a 429 Too Many Requests error.
Anyone know how to fix 429 errors on Shopify? Or even what causes them?

No Follows - Sister/manufacturer sites
What is the best practice nowadays for linking to sister sites? Should you do it, shouldn't you, and/or should you list them with no follows? What about the reverse - having them link to us. Is this bad for us in anyway? Should we have them no follow their link to us? We are a distributor so manufacturers link to us as well, should we have them no follow their links? Thanks!

WordPress Plugin Backlinks?
I'm considering having a WordPress plugin developed that would provide content from my site for others to display in their sidebar. It would definitely provide value for users and I know people would use it on their sites, but my question is . . . If I were to add my link below the widget (e.g. "Content provided by Company ABC"), would this be good or bad for SEO? The anchor text wouldn't be anything special, just an exact match of my brand name (my domain name). I seem to remember Matt Cutts answering something similar a few years ago and I thought he said it was fine as long as the anchor text was the brand name. But maybe things have changed since then. Keep in mind that this plugin could potentially be used by tens of thousands of sites, so the backlink profile could be huge. Thoughts? Would this cause my site to get penalized?

Switching site content
I have been advised to take a particular path with my domain, to me it seems "black hat" but ill ask the experts: Is it acceptable when one owns an exact match location domain eg london.com, to run as a tourist information site, gathering links from wikipedia, bbc, local paper/radio/sports websites etc, then after 6 - 12 months, switch the content to a business site? What could the penalties be? Please advise...

Is there a problem here - lots of backlinks from subdomains
Hi - just been looking at a clients backlinks and seeing a couple of hundred from this website - from different subdomains. http://www.wales.info/ is the main url then you have loads of subdomains: e.g. http://esplanade-hotel.wales.info/areasite_list.asp?Curpage=7&q_group=7 - all with follow backlinks pointing at the same bed and breakfast / hotel / hostel. I'm tempted to remove my listing or request nofollow links. Is that the right thing to do?

Removing a sitewide backlink without damaging the domain
Hello, I have a client that partnered up with a person in his field 4 years ago and got him to place a sitewide link to his site, high domain authority. Now with recent developments this site owner wants to take off these links so that they won't leak pagerank. The person insists in taking all the links off with his next website redesign. I have found several years ago in my own SEO efforts that removal of a sitewide link actually damages the domain. Is this still true? Should he ask for a nofollow or will that change damage our domain as well? Is there any way he can not take a huge hit on this? He doesn't mind the loss of links, he just don't want to be damaged. Please only post if you have recent experience with sitewide link removal, or if you have something related or a solution.
