-
Hello,
I am not technically very sound and I need some good articles that teach me how to think about and go about website pages structuring and url rewriting that is seo friendly.
I will be most obliged if some of you great seomoz-ers can pitch in with help.
Regards,

A web crawler will start at the top of a page and work it's way to the bottom, discovering links and content on the way down. The first links it encounters will be used for anchor text association and weighed more then other links to the same page. Links in content are given greater weight then links in navigation so it is preferable to have those links discovered first.
HTML code can be adjusted to position the navigation after the content. You can look at xenforo which is a forum software developer who designs their software in this manner. If you view the page's source code you will notice the navigation is at the bottom of the HTML code.
With respect to your question on content structuring, there are many pages covering this topic. In general I have two pieces of advice.
1. Have your content reviewed by an English teacher. I am not looking for grammatical corrections (although that helps too) but more along the idea of properly presenting a topic. A good header, intro sentence and paragraph, etc.
2. Examine the wikipedia approach. Most wiki pages perform the basics of SEO content presentation very effectively.

Hi Talha.
Since you are an IT company I am guessing you are asking about the general structure of URLs as opposed to the technical details of how to implement the change.
The primary change I recommed with your present URLs is to remove the technology suffix. Change http://www.zigzagsolutions.co.uk/jobs.html to http://www.zigzagsolutions.co.uk/jobs. Also for the home page drop the index.html.
These changes make your URL shorter and friendlier in appearance. You also benefit from more stable URLs. If you later decide to change your web pages to php or another technology, your existing URLs can continue to work without needing to redirect your whole site.
For web page structure, can you offer a bit more detail as to what you are seeking? Are you looking for technical details such as how to structure your html? An example would be placing your navigation code at the bottom of your HTML so search engines see your content first. Or are you asking about how to present your content?

I assume you are talking about Mod_rewrite with apache.
Apache's rewrite would be a good start http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/misc/rewriteguide.html. You say you are not technically strong, but you should be able to copy details from that and just change things around. The matching pattern works on regular expressions so if you have every used this you will find the syntax makes sense. If you haven't then it can look daunting when you first start but its really not that bad and through trial and error you can quickly pick it up.
This is the full reference for mod_rewrite http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/mod/mod_rewrite.html.
Alternatively once you have decided on your friendly URL to actual file mapping, post those in here and I am sure people will be able to help you create the rewrite rules

Does user engagement or content of pages requiring login help SEO?
Hi! Our company is trying to come up with a few pages with some manuals to teach our users how to use our products. However, these pages require username and password. My understanding is that user engagement will help a website's keyword rankings and Google will not be able to crawl or have access to pages requiring login as it doesn't have username and password. Based on that idea, does that mean all the content and user engagement on those pages requiring login won't help our overall SEO? Thanks in advance!

Single page website vs Google
Hi, I was wondering on this issue: There is a website for guesthouse. It has all information on one page (it is a valid page, with legitimate content). How google treats those pages? Would it treat it as Doorway Page? Or give some other penalties? What about a bounce rate? Because it will be pretty high, as there is no option to go somewhere else? What is your opinion on single page websites - SEO wise? Is it a shot in the foot? Thanks!

Yet Another, Yet Important URL structure query.
Massive changes to our stock media site and structure here. While we have an extensive category system previously our category pages have only been our search pages with ID numbers for sorting categories. Now we have individual category pages. We have about 600 categories with about 4 max tiers. We have about 1,000,000 total products and issues with products appearing to be duplicate. Our current URL structure for producta looks like this: http://example.com/main-category/12345/product-name.htm Here is how I was planning on doing the new structure: Cat tier 1: http://example.com/category-one/ Cat tier 2: http://example.com/category-one/category-two/ Cat tier 3: http://example.com/category-one-category-two/category-three Cat tier 4: http://example.com/category-one-category-two-category-three/category-four/ Product: http://example.com/category-one-category-two-category-three/product-name-12345.htm Thoughts? Thanks! Craig

Help with steps to take when fixing cannonical url structure?
I would like to 301 redirect all the variations of my site to a single url but would like some clarification on some issues. I have always been confused about how to handle cannonicalization and hopefully this can clear it up for me and others. This particular site is about 1 year old and gets approximately 15k uniques a month in a great niche. I want to make sure I do this correctly as to not hurt my existing rankings which are quite good. Here is is what I am unsure about. Basically I should pick the best url structure to redirect all the others to correct? What determines what url is best to redirect all the rest to? is it www.domain.com, http://domain.com or http://www.domain.com? Is the best one to redirect to always standard and something I should set up at the beginning of my site? Or is picking the best url to redirect to based on what url starts to rank in google and you then use that one? Should I be going through each of my rankings and seeing what url is ranking in google for each page? On this particular site ALL of my urls in google have no www. or http but instead show up in the SE as domain.com or domain.com/inner-page/html. In that case what do I do? I know the slow way to do redirects. I use my hostgator account and do it in cpanel and do it one by one. Is there a faster way where I can go and make lots of changes at once? Maybe I can choose all the variations and put in the one I want them all to redirect to? After I figure the above out is fixing all of this as simple as redirecting ALL variations to the one I will use moving forward for each page on my site? Then I am done? Thanks again for the help! Website Structure - What works best for passing the Link Juice?
As most people know it's usual that the main menu is after the top right small links in html. My questions are: What is more important for google or how does google tell which link is more important than the other to pass juice on? If the top right links are in front of the main menu in html would they get more link juice than the main menu? Should i focus in working on better html structure but still keeping the same look ( reverse the html code but keep the same look through css)? Any suggestions?
