Why do new issues occur when there have been no updates to the website?
-
I am unsure on how new issues are created when crawling the site from one crawl to the next. I had assumed the number of issues would remain static if nothing was done from one crawl to the next.
Can someone explain how new/additional issues are added from each crawl, even without updates being made?
Thanks in advance,
Christopher

Makes total sense. I'm going to take a deeper dive and see what I can find. Thank you for the quick response and explanation! If i have any other questions I will let you know.
Thanks again!

Hey Christopher, Dave from the Help Team here.
It looks like we crawled less pages than from the previous week which could correlate with a change in issues.
Basically, the crawler finds pages by crawling all of the links on the homepage/front page and then crawling all of the pages those links took it to, and so forth, until all of the pages we can find under that directory are crawled. So, as long as we can find a link to a page, we crawl every available page within the scope of the Campaign.
If your number of pages crawled has dropped since your last crawl then my first thought would be that the links to those pages, or the pages themselves, may have been removed from the site.
If this is not the case, then there may be a new error that’s blocking us from reaching certain portions of the site. For example, if we find a new 404 error, the page may have previously been linking to the pages that are missing from your most recent crawl, so we can no longer access the links to those pages. This Crawl Errors guide (https://moz.com/help/guides/moz-pro-overview/site-crawl/fixing-issues) is the best place to start to understand and resolve crawl errors.
If you’re still stuck, or have any other questions, please do let me know!

"New" issues not previously found being shown?
I'm not sure what logic Moz is using for its reporting of Site Crawl issues, but it appears to be pretty flawed (unless I'm missing something, which is possible). I've got a client site that has been in Moz for about 6 months now. Every time the crawler runs, the same number of pages are reported as having been crawled. However I'm consistently getting "New Issues" reported that should have been reported during previous crawls. Example: A redirect chain was reported several month ago. The referring URL was the homepage of the website, and we tracked it down to an old link in the header. This was fixed, marked as resolved, and the issue was not shown on the next crawl. Several weeks later, the same issue was reported for a different page on the website - a page which has existed since 2014 and was already crawled many times. Again, we fixed. Fast-forward to the report that just ran on 12/1 and we have the same issue reported, for a different page, which has also existed for years and has been previously crawled. It's very hard to explain to a client "this item you are seeing has been resolved", only to have it continually crop back up in future reports. Note this is not limited to redirect chains - that's just an example. I'm seeing this for other items such as missing canonicals, duplicate titles, etc.

On Page reporting Issue
Hi I’ve recently downloaded my onpage analysis report for our site http://www.health2000.co.nz . The column that is titled “Missing data description Tag” says false, which I’m assuming means the meta description is present. However in the column titled “meta _description tag” there is no meta description present (nor is any meta description in the backend of my site. Could someone please explain why this would occur? I look forward to hearing from you Regards Pete

CMS Image caching issue
Hi,
Moz Bar | | YelloMedia
We have been monitoring our clients website, the website has been created using Opencart and I believe has some kind of image cache running, which for some reason gets cleared regularly (Though we didn't create the site). Now our problem is the images are getting crawled and then being cleared from the cache, therefore causing 404 errors. Is there anyway to cure this issue? Regards Tom0
