On Page Optimization vs. Anchor Text
-
Is it hard to get a page to rank for a particular term if the majority of the anchor text pointing to that page is different from your chosen term?
-
I wouldn't say so, if you use brand terms for a specific anchor text terms, and then you join that up with another factor such as an EMD (exact match domain) factor. Connected with correct on page optimization. Then you need to target only a percentage of the natural links you acquire to have the term within the anchor text.

Pages can definitely rank for multiple terms, so having anchor text around one term does not necessarily mean you can't rank well for another term (Lots of pages rank for terms other than "click here" despite the majority of their links having that anchor text). Standard practice is to only target one main keyword per page, but that doesn't mean you can't make it work for a page to rank for a couple different major terms.
The main question I have is how different is the term your going after from the anchor text you are getting? I'm of the belief that if anchor text isn't just exact match or nothing. If the anchor text is topically relevant to the terms you are targeting you're in good shape. If that isn't the case why do you have so many links like these pointing to that page?

The question is far too vague to answer.
What EXACTLY do you mean by "rank". Are you trying to earn the #1 spot? The top 3? Any spot on the first page?
How competitive is the term? On a non-competitive term you can provide relatively poor SEO and still rank in the top three spots.
What kind of variations are taking place with the anchor text? Are the variations other ways to say the same word (i.e. Limousine vs Limo)? Are they pluralized forms of the term? Are they other words that have the same meaning as the primary term ("tissue" vs "kleenex")?

What do you do with indexed pages that you can't find any keywords for?
You know those pages that you really need to have for your site that most people get to through the nav bar or maybe internal linking, but never through organic search? The ones where you can't find any applicable keywords with volume or even just a keyword with no volume data that just shows up in the Google autocomplete or People Also Search For. What's the better option? just not optimize the page for any keywords at all, but have Title Tag/Meta Description optimized for CTR just in case OR optimize the page for a very loosely applicable keyword even though it's a a bit of stretch or longshot

Webmaster Rankings vs. Moz Rankings
Hello all. For quite some time, both Moz & Ahrefs have indicated to me that I am in first position for several keywords. However, when I go into my Google Webmaster Tools, it says that I am in 7th or 8th position. Any idea why there is such a discrepancy?

Page not ranking despite indicators showing should easily be mid-1st page?
I have many years old website selling a service. The main keyword is 47% competitive, and we used to be #1 page 2, occasionally page 1 couple years back. Domain authority is double of any of the competitors on 1st page, followed root domain links is many times that of 1st page competitors, infact against some of them almost 10 times as much, MozRank and MozTrust higher too. Infact, every metric is higher than competition. Only metric which isn't as good is Followed vs NoFollowed links metric, 95% of our links are NoFollowed, but we are still #1 in external followed links. Yet we are stuck on 4th page, and on some localizations we are not even in Top 50. This has happened slowly over time, not a overnight thing. Page we are trying to rank for gets grade A for optimizations, yet we have less significant pages ranking higher for that keyword. Further, newer pages tend to rank better than old ones. The whole site actually ranks quite low and we are not even getting search traffic for long tail keywords.

Should I make a blog post or landing page to rank?
Hi, I have some keywords (2-5 words) which I would like to rank for (and use them for AdWords campaigns). Also, I have some great and helpful content for those user queries to share. Now what is the better strategy?: Create a blog post for AdWords and later SEO rankings? Create a landing page for AdWords and later SEO rankings? Would love to here your thoughts and experiences on this issue... Best, Robin

How can I easily track multiple keywords for multiple pages?
We are creating landing pages to target keywords, and would like to be able to have something set up so at a glance we can see each page's rank for its targeted keyword. For example, if we have pages with the URLs of example.com/sites/purple-widgets, example.com/sites/purple-widgets-for-cheap, example.com/sites/cheap-purple-widgets, etc., we'd like to see the rank of each of those pages for their respective keyword ("purple widgets", "purple widget for cheap", "cheap purple widgets", etc.). Any suggestions?

How can I find a page ranking?
On the ranking page Seo Moz displays words/pages in the top 50. How can you find where that word/page is ranked if it's below 50 and say up to 200?

Is there a way to identify the phrases and pages involved in your URLS receiving search visits?
Our client seems to get 20 - 30 visits a month to pages which people arrived on via a search, without visiting home page and navigating there. Is there a way we can identify both the phrases the person used to arrive at the page, and the page itself? The graph is tantalizing, but without deeper insight into what the phrases and pages were, we can't focus on the phrases in question. And we'd like to do this, because the phrase may represent potential long tail phrases we could use. Thanks! Eric.

Broad Vs. Exact Match
My question seems basic in nature but some recent keyword research has caused me to re-think broad vs. exact match. I was taught to focus on exact match for the short term and broad match for the long term prospects of a keyword. Today I was researching a niche of keyword phrases where the local search volume (broad) was, for example 33,000. The local search volume (exact) was only 500. What I know about broad vs. exact doesn't help me to determine if this keyword is worth going after. The keyword difficulty score by the way was 35% Yes, I do know that I will probably go after this keyword anyway but to refine my question, how do I get an idea of how "big" this keyword is? Is it more on the broad or more on the exact match of things? How do I determine the various derivatives of the phrase that occur under the broad match?
