Do the back-links go wasted when anchor text or context content doesn't match with page content?
-
Hi Community,
I have seen number of back-links where the content in that link is not matching with page content. Like page A linking to page B, but content is not really relevant beside brand name. Like page with "vertigo tiles" linked to page about "vertigo paints" where "vertigo" is brand name. Will these kind of back-links completely get wasted?
I have also found some broken links which I'm planning to redirect to existing pages just to reclaim the back-links even though the content relevancy is not much beside brand name. Are these back-links are beneficial or not?
Thanks

Hi VT,
Keep in mind that when page A is linking page B (either internally or externally) it is the first link to page B that shows up in the html of Page A that lends any link juice to page B. The rest don't count for anything as far as SEO. Often that link is in the menu or breadcrumbs, rather than in the page copy. That said, while it's nice to keep the anchor text to internal resources tight, the ultimate impact of that anchor text on internal resources isn't that great.

Hi vtmoz
In my opinion, anchor text is not so important in these days, brand / domain / image / visit our website are good anchors. What it's really important is to have some of the links with the exact or similar anchor of the keywords you want to rank, and the rest of natural anchors.
About the page content or context content, the more related it is to the linked page, better. If the content relation is very low, it could still be a good link depending on the reputation of the linking website. The more reputation the linking site has, you need less content relation from it to be a "good" link.
Obviously, the link will be better where it has more content relation and the linking site has more reputation.
About the broken links you are planning to redirect, I would have to see the links, but unless they are backlinks from spammy sites, they should not harm your SEO. Maybe they just have little positive impact, but you don't have nothing to lose doing this.
Hope that helps, best wishes!

New Featured Links in Organic Search Results?
Hi guys, I just performed a search and came across something that looks like "featured links" under a regular organic search result (see screenshot). This is the first time I'm seeing this. It looks like a combination of callout and sitelink ad extensions for Google ads. Basically, linked callouts. I went to the landing page to check out the source code and it seems like they are calling it "featured link" in their code. I tried to find more info online but wasn't able to find anything. (I might not be using the correct search terms.) Does anyone know how to take advantage of this? Thanks a lot for your feedback. dJ9dmTr

Hi all, I have noticed one page from our competitors' website which has been hardly linked from one internal page. I just would like to know if the page not linked anywhere get indexed by Google or not? Will it be found by Google? What if a page not linked internally but go some backlinks from other websites? Thanks

How to take down a sub domain which is receiving many spammy back-links?
Hi all, We have a sub domain which has less engagement for last few years. Eventually many spammy back links pointed to this sub domain. There are relevant back links too. We have deleted most of the pages which are employing spammy content or which have spammy back links. Still I'm confused whether to take this sub domain down or keep it. The confusion between "relevant backlinks might be helping our website" and "spammy backlinks are affecting to drop in rankings"? Thanks

Any benefit to splitting up links from one company to diff pages?
We are the presenting sponsor for this big event in our area (Chasco Fiesta). As part of being their sponsor, their website has linked to us in five different places on their site. But it's all to our homepage. Would there be any benefit to having them link to other pages on our site instead of just our homepage (assuming the other pages are a reasonable expectation for the user, of course)? Thanks, Ruben

What's better for seo, NOINDEX, or INDEX
Hello Mozers; I am having an issue, my client has 10K pages on their site; in WP, and they have a classified section. Question #1: I am asking, what's better for seo, NOINDEX, or INDEX, for their Classified section. They currently have no SEO plug ins, that fix their errors, and warnings. Question #2: My question is also, do I want the Categories crawled, or INDEXED or NOINDEX? Check out their Campaign results by Moz: Title Element Too Long (> 70 Characters) 32 Too Many On-Page Links 9,032 Missing Meta Description Tag 6,234

EMD and partial match
Hi guys, let's say we are looking to become the number one authority in widgets. We therefore want to acquire the domain widgets.com for rebranding and SEO purposes. I know the upside of this in terms of SEO is getting smaller, but it's still there. So we get a small boost when people search for "widgets", but would a domain like this also contribute to ranking for terms like "blue widgets" and "brandname widgets"? If so, would somethings like widgets.com/blue-widget.html be optimal? Thanks! 🙂
