Using copy from a current site on a new one
-
I have a client who is closing down his local business because he'smoving to another state. When he gets there he will launch a new website. On his current website, he put in a lot of work and has a ton of good copy, including blog posts that have helped gain him excellent rankings. He's asking me if he can use that copy on his new site and get original author credit for that, like he did on his current site. Can he use the same copy from his current website on his new websitewithout any problems — and get original author credit for it?Would it be best to shut down the old site or to 301 all of the pages beingmoved to the new corresponding pages? If 301's are the way to go, how long should he leave those in place? Thanks!Kirk

Thanks!

Hello Kirk,
As long as you point the root domain, all should be well. I went through the process a few months ago with a clients websites; no problems were encountered.
I've collated the articles I found useful prior to the process I went through.

Ta, with the old site going down, Joe's and Egol's advice is spot on. All straight forward.
Hope that helps.
-
Hi Joe, I apologize for the slow delay. I did not get any notifications of replies to my question.
Does your suggestion apply even if the old website will be taken down? (Which is the case)
thank you, Kirk

Thank you for this info!
-
Hi Don, The old site will be taken down. (I apologize for the slow delay. I did not get any notifications of replies to my question.)
-
If a thorough job of using 301s to redirect the site is done, as Joe Viveiros suggested, and those 301s remain in place forever, then all content can be safely moved and all link equity should follow. It will take a while for Google to figure this out, and possibly a lot longer for Google to appreciate the original author credit, but everything should be fine in a few to several months.
-
Hi
What is not clear is - is what is happening to the original site. Is the original site staying up? If so it is different advice as to a new site and simply transferring content.
Can you clarify?
-
By all means, use the copy especially if you're ranking well for it. I'd recommend:
- Creating 301s
- Updating the robots.txt file, after Go Live with the Disallow / command
- If you have access to the old version of GSC then you can repoint the whole domain over - old to new URL

Redirecting an Entire Site to a Page on Another Site?
So I have a site that I want to shut down http://vowrenewalsmaui.com and redirect to a dedicated Vow Renewals page I am making on this site here: https://simplemauiwedding.net. My main question is: I don't want to lose all the authority of the pages and if I just redirect the site using my domain registrar's 301 redirect it will only redirect the main URL not all of the supporting pages, to my knowledge. How do I not lose all the authority of the supporting pages and still shut down the site and close down my site builder? I know if I leave the site up I can redirect all of the individual pages to corresponding pages on the other site, but I want to be done with it. Just trying to figure out if there is a better way than I know of. The domain is hosted through GoDaddy.

Guest Posting Campaign For New Site
Hi looking at doing a large guest post campaign for a new site (no authority) of mine. In total the plan is to distribute 50 high quality articles to other blogs in the same vertical. The goal is to kick start my link building campaign doing this. However I know that Google has been slamming down on guest posts: http://searchengineland.com/guest-post-google-penalty-187707 AND https://www.mattcutts.com/blog/guest-blogging/ What are some ways of doing guest posting and reducing the risk. Will keeping anchor-text brand based, be the best option? Kind Regards, Mark

When a client clones there UK site copy for a US version....
Buonngiorno from 16 degrees C cloudy wetherby UK, A client has cloned their UK sites copy for a US version. What theyve now got is a USA site and a uK site with exactly the same copy, the only difference is the suffix. Am i right in saying this will cause problems when for example a browser enters a phrase and two sites appear in the SERPS. Is a solution to this to block the usa site from appearing in the UK (is this possible?). Yes i know the true fix is to change the copy but we are dealing with clients here 😉 Grazie,

Any Suggestions For My Site?
I've recently started a website that is based on movie posters. The site has fundamentally been built for users and not SEO but I'm wondering if anyone can see any problems or just general advice that may help with our SEO efforts? The "content" on the website are the movie posters. I know Google likes text content, but I don't see what else we could add that wouldn't be purely for SEO. My site is: http://www.bit.ly/ZSPbTA

Panda/Penguin & more than one services site in niche
Hello, My friend has a personal development training site. I have been advised not to make separate personal coaching sites for the owners of the training sites. Do you have experience that Panda/Penguin could penalize for separate sites in a similar niche? Do you need any more info to give a good response? Thank you.
