Dismal content rankings
-
Hi, I realize this is a very broad question, but I am going to ask it anyways in the hopes that someone might have some insight.
I have created a great deal of unique content for the site http://www.healthchoices.ca. You can select a video category from the top dropdown, then click on a video beside the provider box to see.
The articles I've written are accessible by the View Article tab under each video. I have worked hard to make the articles informative and they are all unique with quotes from expert physicians. Even for strange health conditions that don't have a lot of competition - I don't see us appearing. Our search results are quite dismal for the amount of content we have.
I guess I'm checking to see if anyone is able to point me in the right direction at all? If anything jumps out...
Thanks,
Erin

Thanks! All good answers. We have started by taking the complementary videos off the article pages to see if it is diluting our results. We're a small team so things take time but this is a good start.

Also a very good point...

Using the LDA Topics Tool in SEOMoz Labs reveals that a your keyword targeting is getting diluted by all the other stuff on the article pages... which reinforces Daniel's perceptions of your home page that too many things are going on at once.
I ran your article Chronic Disease Treatment through the LDA tool and found it only has a 51% relevance to the keyword "chronic disease treatment." Your article is targeted well but it only makes up 334 words out of 641 total words that Googlebot can see on the page. I would recommend making simple article pages that cut out all those menu bars and extra stuff and just includes your article plus a simple navigation bar.
Secondly, and more importantly, your articles do not seem to be garnering any links from outside sources. I write for a niche B2B industry and I have the same problem - human feedback has said my articles are very informative but they don't inspire a link because they are so strictly informational. Try using Google Insights to find trending topics related to your niche and then write a topical article that works in a reference to your website.

I've just had a very quick look and my first thoughts are you're committing a lot of keyword cannibalisation - basically you have the same phrase competing against itself over multiple pages (useful link:http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-solve-keyword-cannibalization). These two pages for example:
http://www.healthchoices.ca/article/yoga-for-osteoporosis
http://www.healthchoices.ca/video/yoga-studios/yoga-for-osteoporosis
As you know, they have exactly the same video - why don't you put the article on the same page as the video? The video pages themselves aren't unique content from a crawler's point of view - they look like a search results/archive page. It makes more sense from a usability point of view (important for SEO) to do this too, and I wouldn't have the videos play automatically either. The navigation around the site seems slightly confusing as a whole.
You seem to have loads of superfluous code in your HTML, and far too many HTTP requests; can some of those script files be combined?
-
The home page, from my perspective, has too much information. One section is diabetes. One is osteoporosis. Another is Vitamin D. And that isn't even half of the front page. This combined with the two-column drop-down navigational buttons is a lot to process.
The drop-down tabs and rollover images appear instantly making the website interface feel jumpy.
I'd focus on simplifying the front-page and having less internal links directly off the home page.

Question About Thin Content
Hello, We have an encyclopedia type page on our e-commerce site. Basically, it's a page with a list of terms related to our niche, product definitions, slang terms, etc. The terms on the encyclopedia page are each linked to their own page that contains the term and a very short definition (about 1-2 sentences). The purpose of these is to link them on product pages if a product has a feature or function that may be new to our customers. We have about 82 of these pages. Are these pages more likely to help us because they're providing information to visitors, or are they likely to hurt us because of the very small amount of content on each page? Thanks for the help!

Hide mobile content element
Hello, We are optimizing our mobile (responsive) website at this moment and we want to change some elements on the productpage of our webshop in order of rank. This is the outcome of a data analysis which proves a change in rank of order will result in a higher conversion rate. No doubt. By technical limitations there is no other option but duplicating the element 'product description' in the source of the page to be able to show in on the spot on the product page we like to. Because our webshop is responsive we can not just move the element to the right spot for mobile because the tablet and desktop version then will change as well. My question is: will it be a problem for Google if we hide the original element of the product description on mobile pages by using the bootstrap class "hidden-xs" and duplicate it on another spot in the page to show it with the "visible-xs" class? My concern is that this will create duplicate content and hiding content for Google is not particularly good. On the other hand, I think Google is smart enough to understand that this is not to manipulate visitors or rankings, but this is only for a different look of the mobile website. I hope you guys can give me some good advice.

Duplicate Content
Crawl Diagnostics has returned several issues that I'm unsure how to fix. I'm guessing it's a canonical link issue but not entirely sure... Duplicate Page Content/Titles On a website (http://www.smselectronics.co.uk/market-sectors) with 6 market sectors but each pull the same 3 pages as child pages - certifications, equipment & case studies. On each products section where the page only shows X amount of items but there are several pages to fit all the products this creates multiple pages. There is also a similar pagination problem with the Blogs (auto generated date titles & user created SEO titles) & News listings. Blog Tags also seem to generate duplicate pages with the same content/titles as the parent page. Are these particularly important for SEO or is it more important to remove the duplication by deleting them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Https Duplicate Content
My previous host was using shared SSL, and my site was also working with https which I didn’t notice previously. Now I am moved to a new server, where I don’t have any SSL and my websites are not working with https version. Problem is that I have found Google have indexed one of my blog http://www.codefear.com with https version too. My blog traffic is continuously dropping I think due to these duplicate content. Now there are two results one with http version and another with https version. I searched over the internet and found 3 possible solutions. 1 No-Index https version

Avoiding Cannibalism and Duplication with content
Hi, For the example I will use a computers e-commerce store... I'm working on creating guides for the store -
Technical SEO | | BeytzNet
How to choose a laptop
How to choose a desktop I believe that each guide will be great on its own and that it answers a specific question (meaning that someone looking for a laptop will search specifically laptop info and the same goes for desktop). This is why I didn't creating a "How to choose a computer" guide. I also want each guide to have all information and not to start sending the user to secondary pages in order to fill in missing info. However, even though there are several details that are different between the laptops and desktops, like importance of weight, screen size etc., a lot of things the checklist (like deciding on how much memory is needed, graphic card, core etc.) are the same. Please advise on how to pursue it. Should I just write two guides and make sure that the same duplicated content ideas are simply written in a different way?0 -

Duplicate content
This is just a quickie: On one of my campaigns in SEOmoz I have 151 duplicate page content issues! Ouch! On analysis the site in question has duplicated every URL with "en" e.g http://www.domainname.com/en/Fashion/Mulberry/SpringSummer-2010/ http://www.domainname.com/Fashion/Mulberry/SpringSummer-2010/ Personally my thoughts are that are rel = canonical will sort this issue, but before I ask our dev team to add this, and get various excuses why they can't I wanted to double check i am correct in my thinking? Thanks in advance for your time
