4xx errors
-
Hi
I checked in my campaign to look for errors on my page and i have got a report showing me a lot of 404 broken or dead links error. So how can i view the source of the broken link in order to fix it.
Thank you!

I don't see any "drop down" on the SEOmoz listed broken links... I also would like to know where to find the source of the broken link! Why don't show the source right inside the error report?
-
Google Webmaster Tools -- create an account there if you don't already have one -- is also a useful way to find 404 errors and track down their sources. Once your account is setup, go to Diagnostics > Crawl Errors > HTTP (this is the deault tab for the "Crawl Errors" screen).
-
You want to see where the links to the broken page are coming from?
3 options:
-
Xenu - http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html - run that on your site and it will tell you. It's not the prettiest solution though.
-
Webmaster tools - Diagnostics > Crawl Errors - click on the page that is a 404 and it will tell you where the links are coming from.
-
SEOmoz - Set up a campaign in the pro section and in the crawl it will give you 4xx errors. Click on that then on each broken link drop down there an 'Explore links' option. That will open up OpenSiteExplorer for that link and show you where you're getting links from

New website server code errors
I launched a new website at www.cheaptubes.com and have recovered my search engine rankings as well after penguin & panda devestation. I'm continuing to improve the site but moz analytics is saying I have 288 medium issues and i see the warning "45% of site pages served 302 redirects during the last crawl". I'm not sure how to fix this. I'm on WP using Yoast SEO so all the 301's I did are 301's not 302's. I do have SSL, could it be Http vs Https?

Spike in 404 Errors from a redirecting domain
All, The non www version of a site I own redirects to the www version. Recently, WMT began showing a big spike in 404 errors (1,000+) on the non www version of the site. Site traffic is off about 15% since the spike in 404 errors. There was also a brief period about two weeks ago, where the site went down due to an issue with the code that has now been resolved. Any ideas how WMT is showing 404 errors on redirected pages? Thanks, John

404 errors on page urls that don't even exist
I am getting a lot of errors on pages with urls that aren't even legit. Like for example: /videos/support/index.asp No such path even exists like this on the site. I have a /videos and /support off root but no place on the site is there any reference or file at location /videos/support/index.asp so I get a lot of 404 duplicate page errors. This is just one example of several. How do I stop this?

Setting up Webmaster Tools correctly - naked domain DNS error and sub-domains question
I'm trying to get our domain (verdantly.com) set up correctly in Google Webmaster Tools. Currently, I have three "sites" setup: blog.verdantly.com (wordpress.com blog redirected to this subdomain) www.verdantly.com verdantly.com The subdomain blog and www show up without errors. However, the naked domain shows a DNS error. I've checked the DNS settings at the registrar and don't see any issues. So here are my questions: 1. Am I correct in setting up the naked domain AND the subdomains separately in Webmaster tools? 2. How do I track down / resolve the source of the DNS errors at the naked domain? Thanks!

Subdomain and relative link paths cause crawl errors
I have a Wordpress blog on our subdomain and we use relative paths on our domain. It appears as though Google bot is crawling from the subdomain categories back to the domain relative paths. This of course results in hundreds of 404 pages. Any suggestions as to how to resolve this issue without changing the relative path structure of our domain? I can provide more information if need be. While I realize these issues are not that pressing, I'd obviously like to remove as many errors as possible. If anyone has encountered this problem, especially in Wordpress I'd really like to hear your solution or lack there of. Thank you in advance.

Spider 404 errors linked to purchased domain
Hi, My client purchased a domain which based on the seller "promising lots of traffic". Subsequent investigation showed it was a scam and that the seller had been creative in Photoshop with some GA reports. Nevertheless, my client had redirected the acquired domain to their primary domain (via the domain registrar). From the period on which the acquired domain was redirected to the point when we removed the redirect, the web log files had a high volume of spider/bot 404 errors relating to an online pharmaacy - viagra, pills etc. The account does not seem to have been hacked. No additional files are present and the rest of the logs seem normal. As soon as the redirect was removed the spider 404 errors stopped. Aside from the advice about acquiring domains promising traffic which I've already discussed with my client, does anybody have any ideas about how a redirect could cause the 404 errors? Thanks
