Newly appointed SEO at a small company
-
Hi.
I am new to the world of SEO, and SEOmoz has already taught me a lot.
I am a newly appointed in house SEO at www.completeoffice.co.uk.
They want to rank for the keyword office interior design, but I noticed that all the keywords they are trying to rank for, there homepage shows up on search results.
So I optimised the on page SEO of their website for the specific office interior design page.
http://www.completeoffice.co.uk/interiors.aspx. I took it from a grade F to a grade A.
Currently they are showing up just outside the top 50 for office interior design, and its the homepage in the google results. Now I have made these changes and on page optimised the SEO for this page to be solely for office interior design keyword will the search results change so that it is the specific office interior design page showing and linking to , or will it always remain the home page.
I have optimised many of the other pages in this way so that a keyword will link to the relevant page and rank for that relevant page, rather than get the home page to rank for 30 keywords.
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
Ryan has given a great answer there.
On the subject of what you will see in the search engine result pages, it does not have to be an either/or situation. It is quite common to see multiple pages in a site appear in the same results.
The most important thing is that by optimizing specific pages for keywords that are relevant to their content you have more chance that visitors will arrive on a page that gives them what they are looking for. This is much better for the user experience and likely to help with conversions.
Congrats on the new job, sounds like you're a natural!

As I understand it you wish your internal pages to rank for given key terms instead of your home page.
If that is the case, you have taken the correct steps by creating pages optimized for the given key terms. I am a bit unclear on the other steps you have taken so I will suggest the following:
-
If you wish to fully optimize a page for a given phrase, optimize the URL. If your phrase is "office interior design" then your url can be http://www.completeoffice.co.uk/office-interior-design. Since you already have "office" in your base URL you may wish to drop the term and simply use /interior-design.
-
Any time the phrase "office-interior-design" is used throughout your site, use the phrase as anchor text and link to the proper page. This will send a strong signal to search engines that the target page should be offered in any results for the term.
-
Earn links to the target page using the proper anchor text
-
Get social! Tweet about the page, use Facebook and other means to mention the target page.
-
Post comments on blogs and respond to forums using a solid variation of the proper anchor text

Is Removing Breadcrumbs Detrimental for SEO?
We have full navigational breadcrumbs on our site for the menu and the brand menu. i.e. Home > Clothing > Jackets Brand > Brand Name > Brand Jackets There's been talk of removing this and having it like Chico's does, where on item pages they just have a link at the top to previous category (i.e. you're on a shirt product page and at the top it says "Back to Tops" instead of listing Home > Clothing > Tops) Is doing something like this detrimental to SEO? From what I've read Breadcrumbs are for user experience but I just want to be sure.

Do I need to do on-page SEO for my mobile site?
We have a desktop site, and we just built our first mobile site. Right now, the mobile site doesn't have any title tags, meta descriptions or anything like that, but do I need to even do that? If I have all of that on the desktop site, and the mobile site is just redirected from the desktop site, can't I just do it on the desktop site only? Is there anything to gain from doing it for both sites?

Can you recommend a Web Developer who specializes in SEO?
We are an e-commerce site, http://www.ccisolutions.com running on an obscure Web store coded for us by a small company called Assist, located in Utah. We believe we have numerous problems with our code that are negatively impacting our SEO. One such problem, the current meta refresh on our homepage, is in the process of being fixed (Thanks to Jenn Lopez at SEOMoz for helping me convince management it was important enough to pay the $ for the fix!). However, I believe there could be numerous other issues. I am the SEO strategist, but I am not a coder beyond basic HTML and CSS. Can anyone recommend a highly qualified Web developer who's strong in SEO that we might hire to do an audit of our code, including recommendations on how to fix anything that might be discovered as a problem?

Suggestions on how to hire help with my SEO?
Hi, I just signed up with SEOMOZ and found some major duplicate content issues with Wordpress. I have installed Yoast SEO plug in but honestly am a little lost on how Wordpress handles it all and need guidance. I would love to hire someone to do some desktop share / Skype sessions to teach me the proper way to set this up but did not see if there was any place on SEOMOZ where employers and providers can connect. I am interested in more than just this one issue, looking for a freelancer ongoing to work on our site for SEO. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance Force7

Managing SEO during web site migration
We have an old web site which currently has good traffic and search ranking. However, the old design is not helping us convert traffic into customers and we have decided to re-design the web site. Due to challenges resolving 4XX issues in the current setup, we will be moving the site to a new CMS and hosting provider. The domain will remain the same. The plan is to create exactly the same pages in the new CMS, as what we have today. And to use the same URLs for each page. Content will remain the same in step one. We will only apply a new layout and design. Besides keeping the URLs the same as in the old system. What else should we be aware of when doing a web site migration, that might impact our search ranking?

Huge and sudden fall in SEO traffic
Hi, I’m writing you because we have noticed in Google Analytics account, a huge fall in the SEO traffic of mywebsite, starting suddenly in one precise day. The difference between this day and the previous one is: -46,36% . Traffic has fallen in all parts of the site in the same way. Some details: - we did not make any relevant change to the website - we haven’t been banned by Google (or we don’t have any message about it in GWT) - the number of the landing pages remains approximately the same - the number of indexed keywords falls from 9.000 to 4.000. - around 2 weeks ago we found out around 120 pages with 404 error, but the error now is solved and the pages are currently working we open the content to Google about 4 months but still we have not published our Site Map. I know that the 404 error could could affect the indexation, but do you have any other idea, apart of this, of what could have happened? Thanks!
