This is a real dumb question about on page optimization
-
I've been reading the docs for using this site and am puzzled by the on page optimization reports, and the tactics for creating the reports.
In no place can i find that you first must use the keywords you have identified to track in the campaign on pages on your web site. Am i missing something?
From just reading how to do your campaign, it would appear that you never have to touch your pages with the keywords you want to track, all 500 of them for one page, if that's what you want to do.
Not knowing how the application works, it is possible to imagine anything, including not needing to do the obvious steps of writing a well optimized page first.
I want to presume that first you optimize your pages with the keywords you want to track, then go ahead and run your campaign. Although this is the obvious thing, I don't see that part of the seo puzzle being mentioned in any of the docs.
Where do i hunt for that part of the equation?

Hi Ed,
You can use the On-page tool to optimize for any keyword term as long as it is loaded into the keyword list in your campaign.
By default the On-page tool offers a report card for every keyword already loaded that it finds relevant to your home page. You can create Report cards for individual pages and keywords by digging a little deeper into the tool.
To use the tool for specific pages:
G****o into the On-page tool and you will see the Summary view. If you look right above the big heading On-page Optimization, there are two blue text links. Choose Report Card.
Now you will see a selector which allows you to choose any keyword from your campaign list and enter the URL of any page in the site.
Click Grade my On-page Optimization and voila! Roger will fetch your Report Card!
Wherever you are in the Pro App, if you need instructions, look for the small blue "Help" link toward the top right (just below the Pro menu bar). The Help page for the On-Page tool is at this link
Hope that helps.

The keyword tool is mostly used for the keywords that you want to track. So yes, you will need to optimize your site for the keywords you want to be in the SERP. A good tool to do this is the Grade Cards, where you check how your site performs for the certain keywords.
The best part, is that you can do all this things to your competitors as well

Combine poorly ranking pages into a single page?
I'm doing on-page optimizations for an apartment management company, and they have about seven apartments listed on their site. Rather than include everything on the same page - /apartments/apartment-name/ - they have the following setup: /apartments/apartment-name/contact /apartments/apartment-name/features /apartments/apartment-name/availability /apartments/apartment-name/gallery /apartments/apartment-name/neighborhood With very few exceptions, none of these pages appear to rank for anything, and those that do either rank very poorly for seemingly random keywords or for keywords like the apartment complex name (alongside the main landing page for the complex). I'm of the mind to recommend combining the pages into a single one that contains all the info, eliminates the chances for duplicate content (all of the neighborhood pages contain the same content verbatim), and prevents keyword cannibalization. Thoughts? Thanks.

Is it better to keep a glossary or terms on one page or break it up into multiple pages?
We have a very large glossary of over 1000 industry terms on our site with links to reference material, embedded video, etc. Is it better for SEO purposes to keep this on one page or should we break it up into multiple pages, a different page for each letter for example? Thanks.

Too many page links warning... but each link has canonical back to main page? Is my page OK?
The Moz crawl warns me many of my pages have too many links, like this page http://www.webjobz.com/jobs/industry/Accounting ...... has 269 links but many of the links are like this /jobs/jobtitles/Accounting?k=&w=3&hiddenLocationID=463170&depth=2 and are used to refine search criteria.... when you click on those links they all have a canonical link back to http://www.webjobz.com/jobs/industry/Accounting Is my page being punished for this? Do I have to put "no follow" tags on every link I do not want the bots to follow and if I do so is Roger (moz bot) not going to count this as a link?

Scripts question
My question is whether search engines will crawl the page before or after scripts run on the page. I have a H1 that will be replaced with a canvas by jquery script. Will search engines see the H1 or the canvas?

Word structure on page optimization
My question is this. I have a scrabble dictionary site and I list a ton of words on the page. I removed then as links just in case Google might be thinking i am spamming, but could there be a difference in listing words like this word1, word2, word3, word4, word5 and instead like this word1 word2 word3 word4 word5 could the first way trigger Google that I am spamming?
