Too many links
-
Hello,
sorry question 2! I run the report it says we have 120 links roughly per page. I know this is bad however I have question about an oscommerce site. I identified some links that can be deleted for example Product picture is a link then the title and then its says details (so I can delete the details and that should save about 15 links) Now I really can only delete the breadcrumb for example car>>ford>>spareparts>>engine
If I delete the breadcrumb I would lose four links would you say thats a good idea? or leave the breadcrumb due to the seo benefits.
Many thanks for your help. Sonja

Hi Guys,
many thanks for answering so quickly. Gianluca what you say make absolute sense to me I thought it was strange that 120 links is a real problem but I think I did not make it clear enough of what I want to do - I would never want to delete the pictures. Imagine a shopping site on our site there is a product picture a customer can click on that to get to the product - then there is the the title underneath..that is also clickable....and then it says details also a link to the product so I'm thinking of removing the detail link and leaving the rest - Hope that makes sense
Dru many thanks for your response - I though you were right about the breadcrumb but to be honest I really dont understand the canonical url issue and I read that it should not be used too much. I have another question open about this issue so I really dont want to add more. But thanks anyway for taking time to reply.
kind regards
Sonja

Stop before you are deleting too many things.
Consider this: deleting photos (because of their link) are you making the product pages more interesting?... I doubt it.
And don't delete the breadcrumb, as it is a great on page optimization "tool", because helps the crawlers understanding where they are in the links architecture of the site. And because they are also a great usability help for the users.
Don't worry overly too much if you have more than 100 links per page (and you have 120, which is not a huge surplus)... as Google along these months have repeatedly affirmed that it has no problem with pages with many links inside.
Yes, too many links can dilute the link juice a page is passing to the others, but it that page is a product one, don't worry.
Eventually try to optimize the home page, category and subcategory pages, in order to have a good hierarchy. For instance, the home page linking just to the product categories (and eventually to the most important products); the categories pages linking to their subcategories, and this ones to the other subcategories of the same categories it is a part of and to its sub-subcategories, if they exists.
But do not delete links that are useful like photos or breadcrumb.

leave the breadcrumbs, set canonical urls, and remove any duplicate links. Breadcrumbs provide easy navigation for users, and are great anchor text links. I would maybe try to limit the numbers of products per page, and do some pagination with canonical urls?
hope that helps.

Nofollow links to own website pages
To preserve link juice should I "nofollow" links to about us and contact us pages that appear at the top of our navigation? I read this article - but I am not familiar with the authenticity: http://www.eminentseo.com/blog/navigation-menu-optimization-best-practices/ Thanks Mike

Link in H1 tag?
Hi guys, We're working through a redesign of our product page and are considering the following: http://screencast.com/t/NBSsDGA9vgS3 Currently the product name (including the brand name - Arc'teryx) in this case is included in the H1 and none of the title is linked. You can see this here: http://www.evo.com/synthetic-jackets/arcteryx-atom-lt-hoodie-womens.aspx The firm we're working with is proposing keeping the entire title in the H1 but linking the brand name to the entire brand assortment. My concern is that the brand name is a critical part of the product title and should be text (not a link). Any suggestions? Thanks!

Does anyone know how I can see the original date of a link to my website?
Hello community, I'm trying to find the oldest links to my website/places that have referenced my company. By old, I'm looking for anything 2008 or older. I have access to a bunch of backlink tools, but they all log stuff based on when they discovered it, and we didn't begin using the tools until June 2013. I'm hoping there's some tool or some easy trick where I can quickly sort my links based on original date they linked to travelexinsurance.com. Thanks, Patrick

Navigation Links Causing Too Many Links Help?
Hello, I have read some SEOMOZ search results for this, but am still concerned that Google may see 4,500 Too Many Link warnings as a problem. This is caused primarily due to our header navigation, which is not intended to be keyword stuffing, but to provide all avenues for our breadth of content. site: crazymikesapps.com. Most answers seem to advise if there is no keyword stuffing at hand don't worry about it. Any help appreciated. thank you Mike

Hi I have been deleting product links from my website but never redirect them. On my google webmaster, it shows there is total 23000 products are not found. Should I redirect them all back to the home page? For the pages with soft 404 response.. should I also redirect those original URL back to home page ? Thanks

Finding 404 links
My first campaign is nearly complete and I have like 40 - 404's. How can I find where these links are on my site? We recently moved over to WP from html and that's what happened.

Nofollow on these internal links?
On an x-cart ecommerce website we have, seomoz has picked up a lot of duplicate content, based on URLs that are different, but are essentially the same page. These come from Fitlers, that allow a page to show only certain colours and styles, reordering page by price etc, and also the page 2, page 3 etc of a category: All the below are '4ft-bedding.html' http://www.textilesdirect.co.uk/store/4ft-Bedding.html?filter=1&value=Pink http://www.textilesdirect.co.uk/store/4ft-Bedding.html?page=2 http://www.textilesdirect.co.uk/store/4ft-Bedding.html?sort=price&view_all=Y I've now changed all these internal links to rel="nofollow" on the a tag. Is that the correct and best way to sort? I might be mistaken on when I did this update and when the last report was ran, but on the SEOmoz crawling report, it still has the above as problem pages. thanks!
