How long does it typically take to see a boost in traffic after a strong increase in links?
-
Suppose you have had a great month of linkbuilding and significantly increased the number of linking domains (say by about 10%).
How long does it typically take to see a noticeable uptick in traffic based on your experience?
-
Simply speaking, as soon as Google crawls a web page with a link to your site then you can immediately receive the benefits of that link. A few examples:
-
you receive a link to your site from a popular story on the New York Times. That article will likely be indexed within 1 hour of it being published. You can then immediately begin seeing increased traffic.
-
you receive a link from a "regular" site on an article which is mentioned on the site's home page "Recent Articles" block. Depending on the site's DA, the page will likely be indexed within a couple days and you will begin receiving the benefits after it is indexed.
-
you receive a link from a regular site which is not promoted on their home page but instead is buried in the site. The site structure might be mysite.com/en/blog/articles/cars/2012/ford/sports-cars/mustangs/2012-mustang-gt. Well, that article may never be crawled and indexed in which case you would receive no benefit from the link.
-
your link might be on a page which is noindexed or blocked by robots.txt which would not be seen
Also keep in mind a link to your site offers two benefits: direct traffic from the linking site and any benefit to improving the ranking of your search results which Google offers to you based on that link. You can receive a direct traffic boost instantly. You may or may not ever receive a boost from Google based on the link. If the link is nofollowed then Google wont offer you any benefit. Many sites are penalized from Google by having their links devalued for various reasons. If you receive a link from such a site, there is no ranking benefit.
The last point, Google will examine your site when determining a boost from the links. Are the sites linking in independent? If the sites have similar IPs, similar backlinks, same owners, use the same anchor text, etc. then Google will likely devalue those links.

Spammy links
Hi Guys, I have a case which seems to occur more often for our customers. The websites of our customers seem to receive tons of backlinks from websites all over the world (China, Russia, Ukrain, etc). It’s spam we never asked for, we didn’t buy any dodgy linkbuilding packages or anything. Do any of you guys have experience with this matter? We try to disavow the links but it takes too much time and we will never manage to disavow 100% of all links. Examples are www.keukensduitsland.nl and www.m2beveiliging.nl Hope anyone has experience and maybe even solutions for this matter. Thanks!

Does This Link Have Value?
Hi Mozzers, A client paid to publish a white paper, thinking that the link to the web site is beneficial. The link does redirect back to the web site, but is in a format that I've never seen: http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001YdyyLrzOQJxM87SJZkJYVbQKSdCmFpwqg1fuX3yqVqpGboUjdSaHv9IdW5HsQpgmvwOrg5N4T3DNHYV8e1UVe_YCua_XQCFykoSJvu1HzDyb-3x-aFcPU-ER-vwWxq4- Does this link have any value?

How many good links does it take to improve the rank
Just wondering how many good links (PR 3-5) it generally takes to improve the site in a competitive space. That is assuming the links will be procured (earned) from the sites in the same domain.

Finding links online that already exist as link juice based on search results
I'm curious about this, I can't find anything on the net that talks about it. I wrote an article about it on squidoo and have had no responses so I am thinking this is very rare subject. The question is I have done some backlink research with my competitors with linkdetective.com and found many links (even follow ones) related to sites that provide search results. Here are a link about what I am talking about as an example, I have found many more besides this one. http://search.lphant.com/es/webResults.html?q=free%20scrabble%20dictionary&hl=en&page=1&src=hmp_es&ref=1 My site appears in those results. When looking at the source there is no "nofollow". I found this page because linkdetective.com had this link listed pointing to my competitor. Are these valid backlinks? What I have been doing is adding these links to http://www.google.com/addurl so that Google knows about them. Is there something I am missing or are these valid?

Publish content on current domain for content boost or new domain for links?
I have about 1000 unique and organically generated articles. My quote compare business has had briefs submitted by clients for over two years. The content has only been accessible to registered members. I want to polish it ASAP. Is it better to publish the content on the existing website in a sub folder or set up a new website to publish the content and have every article link back to the main website? Content is around 300 words x 1000.

Where are all the sites that are linking to me?
I need to compile a list of all the siters linking to my site, but my open site explorer analysis shows very few links. I know for certain that there are many many more sites linking to it (it's an academic site and there are links to it from a lot of academic directories). What am I doing wrong?
