Is duplicate content in social media ok?
-
We use Twitter, Facebook, a blog, and Google +. Currently we create unique content for each. These platforms have the ability to "cross-post" (Where what you put on your facebook or blog gets tweeted, for example).
Is it important to keep this content unique? Or can we duplicate across these platforms?
-
Thanks for your insight. I find it interesting that people who follow companies will follow them across multiple platforms and desire unique info from each.
I thought that people choose their favorite method of getting information and want to be able to get it all using that method. The idea that I need to watch a company through all the different social platforms to get a full spread of content is annoying to me.

I agree with Brett, plus there was a study that showed that Facebook doesn't show posts made by outside apps in the feed as often as it does if you post directly to Facebook. So not only do you want to keep that content unique to your users, you want to make sure you getting as much prime time as possible.
I'm not sure there's an issue with "duplicate content" in social, as it is in general SEO best practices, but from a user perspective, definitely keep it unique.

I think it is very important to keep the post unique across your social media. I follow a lot of companies and the last thing I would like to read is the same post in your blog and your facebook wall. For a consumer I enjoy reading unique content.
For seo purposes that unique content across social media is up for debate.

Hi Does anyone have experience of re-branding LinkedIN or Facebook? Can you keep the company page/followers and just change your name or do you have to start again? Thank you!

Are Social tags beyond Structured Data still required?
Hello: I have a client that has Structured data set up correctly to include their social profiles for FB, Twitter, and Google+. But when I run an audit tool it tells me that they need < re=Publisher > tag for Google Plus. My understanding is that we don't need any additional code beyond the Structured Data tags. Is that correct? Thank you Rosemary

Following Rand Fishkin and Wil Reynolds I tell them to provide the best content they have for their customers and want them to blog. Now the issue is that their competition is playing unfair and already stole texts from them to present those at aviation fairs. What do you think? How can one follow Rands and Wils suggestions without losing in the end? Cheers Marc

Page Speed and Social sharing bookmarks - how to balance
I've been having some challenges on my page load times and am in process of addressing. Some of the issues are my pictures(so I'm in process of condensing), but part of the issue (according to pingdom.com) is my social sharing. I was using 1 click retweet, and when I changed this to Sexy bookmarks, it seemed to improve. But, I'm wondering 2 things: 1. Do you guys have any recos on which plugin is best to use and takes least time to load (I'm not sure if this is contraditory). My priority is G+/Tw/FB. 2. On my sexybookmarks, it's strange because visually, the plugin is not showing up correctly. Where the G+ button should be, it's invisible. Ironically it works, if I click on it, but a normal person is not going to realize it's there. Any suggestions? In case it helps, my site is TheFlooringGirl.com. I don't think the plugin shows up there, but it does show up at the bottom of all of my blog posts. Thx. I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Website Competiton - sharing the entry on social media
Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you could help me with this. Basically one of our clients will host a competition on their website soon. Once a visitor completed the entry form I would like to have social media buttons on that page that automatically place text into your social media account if you chose to "share" or "tweet" your entry. For example it could automatically place "I have just entered to win .... You should try it out as well!" into the twitter or Facebook posting field. I have tried looking around, but honestly I am not sure what the look for. How could this be achieved or what it is called? Thank you

Social button yes or social button no...
Hi everybody! It's quite clear that if you have a pretty, clean, compact html code on your website, Google loves you as a lovely mom does with her kids. But it's not a dream world and you have actually to choose between social and clean code. In fact to add, for example, the Facebook social button, you have to include some files from the Facebook servers. Even though the googlebot doesn't download them (but people do, with page optimization decreasing), it reads some javascript code. Moreover you have to add some code where you want the button appears. I think it hasn't much sense for the googlebot, so that could it be punitive for your website / page to place that bunch of code? In the end my question is the following: Does the social power win against negative factors like additional files to download and a bunch of ugly code in your body? social power > bad factors (file downloading+more code)?
