Y!SE and OSE
-
Hi
So now when Y!SE is closed i
m trying to find alternative, so i
m trying OSE basically i like the data that it showed to me but the numbers is unbelievable different. Im used Y!SE about 1 year so i have statistic for a year. Previous month for my client homepage i have 2625 total external links and now OSE reports me only 1558, for the main category page was 16 now 68\. Most strange for me is total external links for root domain on Y!SE it
s always been around 6-7k but now OSE reports me 10,053. So my question why numbers so different can it be that the Y!SE don`t update for several month there data or some others reason? Thanks,
Sergey

The truth is, you can trust them all, but every index will always report different numbers.
For example, it's estimated that Google's index was 2x the size of Yahoo's.
The web is full of links. Billions and billions of them. The problem is that 80% of them are junk. Most indexes maintained by companies like Google, Bing, Yahoo, and even SEOmoz and Majestic can't afford to waste the resources crawling, processing and storing all of those junk links. So the question doesn't become what you keep, what's more important is what you throw away.
Yahoo tended to report a lot of links. It was kind of fun because they reported many links right away, even if they weren't important and didn't help you to rank.
Linkscape (the name of SEOmoz's index) tries very hard to produce a quality listing of links - links that actually have an effect on crawling, indexing and ranking. The huge advantage of Linkscape over Yahoo is that OSE will actually tell you the value of a link through metrics like Domain Authority, Page Authority and MozTrust. You couldn't get these metrics from Yahoo.
Our friends at Majestic wrote a post that we featured on the SEOmoz blog highlighting this difficulty.

No index will report every link, but OSE will represent the majority of links that matter, and provide actionable metrics to go along with them.

I try the Majestic tool too.
Total external links 1558 for specific page from ose
then majestic reports me External Backlinks 5148 it`s fresh data not historical and Y!SE over a year reports me only 2-3k external links.
I can understand that different rules and inclusion for every tool but i can
t understands why they are so different it is not 500-1k it
s about 2-3k.Help me please what tool i can trust more
Thanks

Every tool is different, has different update rates, rules for inclusion of links etc. As a sanity check why not try majestic numbers too?
I usually find majestic reports more links than ose.

OSE vs google webmaster link data
Hiya experts, I am trying to understand the OSE. One thing I noticed is that OSE shows 12 linking root domains to our site. However, google webmasters show more than 90(that have kinks to pages on our site). And these are not new links, some of these date back to Apr 2011. Is there something very obvious I am missing here? Thanks for your help. Regards, Raman.

OSE Report Shows HTTP Status "No Data"
Open Site Explorer shows HTTP Status "No Data" on 1,575 urls of the 3,335 urls listed in the "Top Pages" report for my site. What does this mean?

Why does the CSV report on OSE limit the number of links I can download to less than it should?
I run an inbound link report for the domain www.acornstairlifts.co.uk on OpenSiteExplorer.org using the following filters: Show: All Links from: only external Pages to: pages on this root domain Show links: ungrouped It says that there are around 30,678 links for that query. I then go to the advanced tab, and run a report using the same filters, but when I click download report I only get 2874. I've run this for the past 2 days and I get the same. Why?

Why does the csv export from OSE only include 25 of the 90+ links?
In OpenSiteExplorer, I clicked "Download CSV" for a report on backlinks from one domain to another. The online visualization in OSE showed 93 external inbound links from site A to site B. When I opened the report, there are only 25 linking pages listed. How do I download the full list?

Some thoughts on MozTrust based on OSE Findings X ref'd with SERPS
I've been doing a bit of competitor analysis for a client using OSE. There are a group of about 4 websites (our clients website included) that all dominate the sector with none of the 4 clearly out in front (call this GROUP A). Then there are another group of about 5 websites, which come lower in the SE's consistently than the top 4 (Call this GROUP B) **I've been doing some analysis in OSE: ** ALL GROUP B Websites outrank all of GROUP A websites in the OSE Metrics (Including Trust Rank). I did some analysis on the backlinks in Group A VS Group B Group A - Generally a mixture of ok links from blog posts, sponsorship, and ok directories. Group B - As A, but with fewer numbers of links from quality blogs PLUS A high level of spammy links ( .edu and .gov spam filled pages), very low quality, almost non legible blog posts on MFA sites (think Digital Point sellers). From the above it is clear that the OSE metrics are out of whack with the real SE results. Clearly OSE has a few problems with working out what are spammy links and what are decent. Obviously google also has issues with working this out, so I am not surprised that OSE also does - but that doesn't solve the issue. This is a general discussion - so I would just throw in a few thoughts on how OSE may possibly try are overcome some of these issues : 1/. % Trust Links vs Non trust Links:
Moz Pro | | James77
Add in a metric to Trust Rank where the number of links close to trusted sites are also compared to the number of links not close to trusted sites. If you see a very high ratio of links from sites that are not close to trusted sites, it is a strong indicator of spammy links. 2/. Use seed "Non Trusted" sites to create a negative Trust Rank
Use something like a reverse of the "trusted sites" theory, but taking a load of very clearly spammy / link manipulative sites and work out in terms of links connections how far the site is away from these sites. Thoughts???0 -
Problems with OSE downloads
Ordered 5 reports last 24 hours, none received. Anyone else with this problem ? I do expect better from an expensive subscription. C'mon Moz, fix this new OSE report system please.

Has anyone noticed slight drops in the Domain mozRank of their sites since the OSE update?
There's been no significant changes to their link profiles, so I'm thinking how mozRank is measured may have changed. Anyone else have this issue?

What is the difference between the link count on OSE and Linkscape?
We notice a huge difference in the number of inbound links . Site explore shows 1,200 as an example and linkscape shows over 100,000 for the same site.
