301 Re Direct Question for www
-
Can smeone check this code to make sure it is right so thaqt my site uses www always.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^exercisebiology.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.exercisebiology.com/$1 [R=301,L]
I had the hostgators customer service personnel perform this. But I cannot get it to redirect. But he says it works.
-
Yea That's what I think.
I tried adding the traoling slash with 301 redirecet, but it didn't work.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.)/$ RewriteRule ^(.)$ http://www.exercisebiology.com/$1/ [L,R=301]This was the code I used. Can you tell me what is wrong please?
-
Does your site use the "index.php" version of the page with parameters to handle logins? In that case, you can't 301-redirect the page across the board. You'd have to do it selectively (only for the version with no parameters), and that's going to take custom-coding. You'd probably be better off with a canonical tag, in that situation - it would keep Google from indexing the variants (including the login pages, which have no search value).

Thanks!
1. Can you show me how to do a redirect for for http://www.exercisebiology.comto http://www.exercisebiology.com/ I want to add the trailing slash.
2. Also how to redirect from http://www.exercisebiology.com/index.php
to http://www.exercisebiology.com/.
When I tried to redirect the index.php last time, I couldn't login to the forums. Everytime when someone tries to login to my forums, it takes them the to the home page. I did it through the hostgator CP. I am thinking someone could help me here.
Thank you so much!

I see you have canonical tags in place. Considering that, I would suggest you are good. No need to setup any of those redirects. Canonical tags are in essence sort of 301's anyways, so you are all set.

Thank you. Worked like a charm.
Since we are on the topic, do you know how I can put a redirect for these pages: For every article, I have a few of these duplicate titles. I removed the pagination tags so it wont give out any more P's and N's But I am guessing I should do redirect. Should I ? **Here is an example of one article and the URL's with page numbers. **
/index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/
/index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N12/
/index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N1564/
/index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N1568/

Try this in the .htaccess file. It should work fine for sure.
You don't need to manually add your website name.<code class="htaccess" title="in your .htaccess file">RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]</code>

301 Redirects a Year Later
I inherited the digital maintenance of a website that was relaunched a year ago. In looking at Google Analytics, organic search a year later is still down 33%. I fear they did not install 301 Redirects but can't really get a specific answer from them. Is it possible to install them a year later to help with Google indexing and get back some of the organic traffic?

Meta Data Question
Hi There, I am working on the umbraco CMS and we have a Menu page which sits under one page on the CMS. When accessing this page on the front end and navigating between the food menu / drinks menu, the url changes depending on which content you are on, however i have only one place to input a meta title and description meaning that it is seeing them as duplicate content as both the drinks menu url and food menu url are showing the same meta data. Hopefully this makes sense, does anyone have anything similair where a url change happens when content within the page changes.

Worth redirecting non-www to www due to higher page authority with www?
When checking my domain I receive higher page authority for www vs non-www. I am considering moving to the www url and applying the necessary redirections but wanted to quickly check if this is worth it. The root page authority https://www.diveidc.com : PA 40 https://diveidc.com : PA 35 By redirecting would I just be transferring over negative signals to the www domain, thus voiding the point for doing any redirect at all?

Question about creating friendly URLs
I am working on creating new SEO friendly URLs for my company website. The products are the items with the highest search volume and each is very geo-specific
Technical SEO | | theLotter
There is not a high search volume for the geo-location associated with the product, but the searches we do get convert well. Do you think it is preferable to leave the location out of the URL or include it?0 -
301 Redirect question www to root.com
I have a site that has been up for a few weeks now and is currently in a www format and i am considering changing it to just mydomain.com I also have quite a few directory listings (including google places/bing) for this site w/ the www. url. If i do this, change it in my google analytics, and update my wordpress internal page + htaccess file. Will i lose any of the link juice i had from my www pages? Would this be something that would be advised since i've registered for many sites, or is there a potential that this could end up hurting me? Thanks,

Right redirect to transfer juice www, no-www and website movement
Hi here is my problem, I have a website which works both with www. and without www; Now I want to optimize it and transfer it to another new domain along with the link juice of both the old domain with www and without www. I don't want to do it with multiple redirects but with just one clean redirect (I know that search engines don't like that, am I right?). What should I write in the .htaccess of the old domain and in the one of the new domain? To summarize I want something like that: www.oldsite.com/anyfile.html>301>www.newsite.com/anyfile.html oldsite.com/anyfile.html>301>www.newsite.com/anyfile.html newsite.com/anyfile.html>301?>www.newsite.com/anyfile.html Thanks

301 redirects
At the moment it's possible to access the home page of my website via two different urls, with and without www. and you've told me that this can be resolved with Canonicalization and a 301 redirect. Do I do this with my web hosting package or in my html pages? If I can't do it with my web host (1&1) then is there an idiot's guide of how to do it yourself? I've also got both the domain vamospaella.co.uk and vamospaella.com. Is it better to have one of these redirecting to the other for UK traffic (at the moment .co.uk redirects to .com) Thanks

If I 301 re-direct a piece of content (A) to another piece of content (B) and B is unrelated in subject matter to A, will the referring search keywords to content piece A hold for content piece B?
For example, I have a piece of content about furniture and it ranks in top 5 in the SERPs for the phrase "furniture". If I were to 301 redirect that piece of furniture content to a piece of content about trucks, would the referring keyword "furniture" continue to rank over time for the trucks content? My instincts tell me that in the short term the content piece about trucks would receive traffic for the term "furniture", but over the long term, the trucks content would lose rankings for the term "furniture" since the piece has to do with trucks and not furniture. Any thoughts?
