Do I need backlinks?
-
Hi,
My theory is yes I do. But the problem I have is a small budget and competitors who have a big one.
My problem is we have a small number of external links and linking root domains.
My profile from a domain analysis read like this in March and then May...
External Followed Links - Mar 103 | May 257
Total External Links ------- Mar 114 | May 276Total Links ------------------- Mar 5,577 | May 24,425
Followed Linking Root Domains - Mar 24 | May 47
Total Linking Root Domains ------- Mar 30 | May 55As you can see, progrss is being made considering I do this part time for a family website. But what I need is a big bump in these numbers as my 3 compeitors are pulling in silly numbers such as 308, 7000 and 45000 external followed links.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to compete with this realisticy without spending a fortune? I am putting the time and effort in so anything you guys can do to help the better.
I am using twitter and facebook quite a bit, and seen growth on Twitter go from 40 to 1,350 followers over 7 months. Visits to the site over 7 months have gone up 50% as well.
However sales are still looking about 10-15% up on previous year.
I need more links coming into the site don't I? And what is the most important part of the Domain Analysis, what shoudl I want to increase first and foremost?
Any ideas?
Cheers
Will

Hi thanks.
Interaction is good I think. I am having decent chatter with customer base and also receiving followers, tweets, retweets and recommendations from football players, dj's, musicians, local celebs, actors, tv/media personalities etc.. so i feel I am getting our name out there.
I will continue what I am doing and take a look at your link, looks useful.
Thanks again.

What you are doing is correct a gradual link building is far better and provides a long lasting result in search engines compared to using black hat techniques.
Concentrate on building links from websites that are relevant to your business, Sites with HIGH Page Rank, and also include alt tags where possible for target keyword.
Quality content containing your target keyword with use of keywords in your H1 tags and good internal link building within your site is also a plus side in SEO.
In terms of increasing conversions have a good 'call to action' on your main landing pages.
hope this helps

A website needs links like a car needs fuel when it comes to search engine ranking, however as Bryan has pointed out it is important to focus on quality rather than quantity. I just thought I would add some information on link building that may give you some ideas -
http://www.seomoz.org/q/drowning-in-a-sea-of-link-building-advice
- I would read all the responses as there are some ideas in there that might help you..
In regards to social media it sounds like your followers are increasing, however how are you finding your interaction with authority figures/ influencers as these relationships will help gain exposure - you might even be able to persuade them to produce a guest post for you if you decide to go down the blog route on your website.

Thanks.
When I say small budget, we have a smaller one than competitors but if needed we could spend approx £500 p/m on doing a SEO Backlink campaign. But would need to know if this is the main thing we should target.
Also when you say PR, often when gaining links, the root domain is high PR but the page your article ends up on is low PR.
Does this matter? And how do you get a high PR article/link on the main domain that will last?
Often blog posts stay on the main domain front page for a week then they ae archived are they not?

Unfortunately, this is common with smaller (low budget) companies. There is no way to compete when it comes to the number of links you receive, however, you can control the quality of the links you receive. Getting a few high quality links PR6 PR7 PR8 PR9 etc will be more valuable than 10 0000 PR2 links.
I also suggest you write high quality content, as fresh, trendy content can outrank high pagerank. High quality content is more likely to develop natural links that are not so spammy.

Help needed
I am quite new to Moz and SEO in general. Our company has a website at https://printvent.co.uk We are using woocommerce / wordpress for an ecommerce store selling custom printed products,. Banners, Posters, stickers etc. We have configured Yoast SEo and Moz is now reporting no errors on the site. However Google has not indexed any pages from the site after around 3-4 weeks. I have submitted through Google search console. It is reporting over 900 pages blocked by robots.txt. There is a folder called Printvent designer that we are blocking via a disallow in robots.txt. I thought this was necessary as this creates a URL for every product for every option that the customer uses to design their own product. These all point to the page printvent designer. (example XXL Blue sweatshirt has its own designer page - https://printvent.co.uk/printvent-designer/453 My question really is what are we doing wrong ? All meta titles and descriptions are in place, no errors from Moz, Moz reports most product pages as 90% + Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bad influance for my SEO, because of no existed pages, bad urls and dubble content. Bye bye keywords! Need Help with www and non-www redirect
Hi everyone, I've been looking around the forum and found some similar topics but none of them have solved my problem. Anyway, I'm new to SEO and found that when I use Open Site Explorer for the www version of my site I see the links directed to my page, but none of my twitter stats show up. When I do the same for my non-www version. I see my twitter stats, but no links. Facebook seems unchanged. Also, the Page Authority is much higher for the www (I assume because of the links) It is my understanding that it doesn't matter which version of the domain is used, I just need to pick one and stick with it (on Google Webmaster Tools, etc.). And that I also need to do a 301 redirect for the version that I'm not using. The issue now is that I have a 301 redirect, and when I type in my url in any version (http, https, www, non-www) it all redirects in the browser without issue. So i know users are getting to the right page, but the Open Site Explorer still sees them as 2 different sites. My concern is that if Open Site Explorer sees it this way then Google may see it this way as well and I could be missing out on potential rankings. I'm currently doing the redirect in the .htaccess file. The redirect looks like this: RewriteEngine On
Moz Pro | | opstart
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,L] Any Ideas on what I need to do to properly 301 redirect the site so that my preferred version can get credited with the links, twitter, and Page Authority stats? Also, I'm using wordpress and it has the URL set to the non-www version of the site. However, I think I would like to change this to the www version because most of the links are directing to www, and I also think people are more familiar with that format. Anyway, sorry for the long post. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.0 -
Do I need to set the country in Webmaster Tools even if I am set to apply the hreflang tag to our different country pages?
We are global brand that will be migrating to a new platform in the next few months. As such, this will allow us to fix our current SEO issues. We are planning on using geo-targeted subfolders instead of country code top level domains primarily because of resource limitations. My question is - do I need to set the country in Webmaster Tools even though I am already going to tell Google that certain pages are targeted towards a specific country?

Backlinks using Open Site Explorer
Hey guys, So I was doing some backlink analysis for a client and was utilizing Open Site Explorer, which stated that I had roughly 2,111 External Followed Links. However, I can't seem to find a way to export all 2,111 backlinks. I wanted to make sure if the links I had acquired had been indexed and crawled, and picked up, but I can't seem to access the full list on a domain level, only on the subdomain level. Anybody have any suggestions or advice? Any would be helpful! Best, James
