Relocating Real Estate Agent - Redirect?
-
I'm a real estate agent relocating to a new market. I have a fairly strong site in TN. How do I transfer as much juice as possible to my new site in FL? I don't want my new site in Florida to rank for TN keywords.

Hi Dan,
As Anthony has mentioned, 301 redirecting is likely the best way to go, and of course, because you are changing locations, you will need to ensure that you've changed all of your local business citations to reflect your new locale. This will be very important to do as thoroughly as possible. -
Does your old domain have TN or the old company in it?
If not, I'd suggest just altering your website for the new market. Keep all the same URLs the best that you can to continue getting link juice from your old links. If TN or old company name is in the URL then the best thing is as Anthony and you said and do a 301 redirect.
For our clients that want their own sites for either mortgages or real estate we always push for them to choose a unique domain name outside of the company or geographic area for this exact reason. This helps them by not having to start from ground zero or lose some juice from the 301.

P.S. Don't worry about still ranking in TN. If you happen to get a lead from TN you can throw it to one of your old buddies and get a referral bonus or at least karma points.

You are correct, you should 301 redirect your old site to your new one. I wouldn't worry about ranking for TN keywords. If your new site is optimized for FL keywords and devoid of TN keywords it would be really hard to rank for the previous FL keywords.

301 Redirect
Hello Moz Community, I have a question regarding 301 redirecting a new domain that contains keywords relevant to my website. However, I do NOT want to change my current domain. My main question is, by just redirecting this new domain to my current website, will those keywords in the new domain help with ranking in anyway? Thanks in advance for any help!

Should I change or redirect this URL?
Happy Friday everyone! I just noticed that one of our Attorney Profile's url's is wrong. We used to have someone named "Dana Fortugno" as our Family Law attorney, but when he left, (over two years ago) we hired "Scott Finelli." The person who setup the site, just changed the information on the page not url. So instead of it saying "http://www.kempruge.com/scott-finelli-jd-llm/;" it says "http://www.kempruge.com/dana-fortugno-jd-llm/." I'm considering taking all the content on the page with the wrong url, copying it to a new page with the correct URL and 301 redirecting (what would now be a blank page) to the new page with the correct URL. Is this the best way to handle this? Also, I don't believe there are many SEO concerns regarding the pages specifically. The profile pages aren't what we rank for in any of our Family Law related keywords. I am worried about having a completely blank page that just 301 redirects as looking bad to google, but not sure if it would? As always, thank you for your time and any assistance you can provide. Detail page popup questions for real estate client
My client, discoverstl.com, recently changed their site structure so that the detail page for individual property opens as a popup within the main page they are visiting, see http://d.pr/i/e8ik after clicking view details on the featured property on the home page. While the url links out to a properly formatting detail page, such as VIEW DETAILS, the developer says this doesn't affect google as its a javascript tweak that pulls it into the existing page. I'm still not convinced and am looking if this is bad for our SEO campaign. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Trackback Redirects
My wordpress blog/theme displays a Trackback URL link in the comments area of any page that has received a comment, eg http://guitarkitbuilder.com/build-your-own-clone-digital-echo-ping-pong-kit/#comment-2408 My crawl diagnostics report shows these links (basically domain.com/post-name/trackback) as Temporary Redirect warnings 302 with the stock advice "Using HTTP header refreshes, 302, 303 or 307 redirects will cause search engine crawlers to treat the redirect as temporary and not pass any link juice (ranking power). We highly recommend that you replace temporary redirects with 301 redirects." Before I take more action on this I want to make sure this is a real problem. My initial effort to fix it was to turn off trackbacks in the wordpress settings-discussion area and also on specific posts, but the Trackback URL link still shows for any post with a comment. Any advice?

404 Errors & Redirection
Hi, I'm working with someone who recently had two websites redesigned. The old permalink structure consisted of domain/year/month/date/post-name. Their developer changed the new permalink structure to domain/post-name, but apparently he didn't redirect the old URLs to the new ones so we're finding that links from external sites result in 404 errors (once I remove the date in the URL, the links work fine). Each site has 3-4 years worth of blog posts, so there are quite a few that would need to be changed. I was thinking of using the Redirection plugin - would that be the best way to fix this sitewide on both sites?Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Carolina

Redirect or not to redirect
We are rebuilding a website and try to get rid of errors. The content remains exactly the same but we correct the code and make it load faster. The site has quite many backlinks and I can't decide whether to remove .html endings from the urls and 301 redirect to the new ones or leave them with the older ending. If I remove the endings how much of the link juice will be passed? Anyone any idea?
