Relocating Real Estate Agent - Redirect?
-
I'm a real estate agent relocating to a new market. I have a fairly strong site in TN. How do I transfer as much juice as possible to my new site in FL? I don't want my new site in Florida to rank for TN keywords.

Hi Dan,
As Anthony has mentioned, 301 redirecting is likely the best way to go, and of course, because you are changing locations, you will need to ensure that you've changed all of your local business citations to reflect your new locale. This will be very important to do as thoroughly as possible. -
Does your old domain have TN or the old company in it?
If not, I'd suggest just altering your website for the new market. Keep all the same URLs the best that you can to continue getting link juice from your old links. If TN or old company name is in the URL then the best thing is as Anthony and you said and do a 301 redirect.
For our clients that want their own sites for either mortgages or real estate we always push for them to choose a unique domain name outside of the company or geographic area for this exact reason. This helps them by not having to start from ground zero or lose some juice from the 301.

P.S. Don't worry about still ranking in TN. If you happen to get a lead from TN you can throw it to one of your old buddies and get a referral bonus or at least karma points.

You are correct, you should 301 redirect your old site to your new one. I wouldn't worry about ranking for TN keywords. If your new site is optimized for FL keywords and devoid of TN keywords it would be really hard to rank for the previous FL keywords.

Redirect for Soft 404 or 404?
I have a client site that displays properties from the MLS. Once these properties sell they're removed from the MLS and they stop showing up on her site. This would result in a 404 error, but right now any property that's not being found is being 301 redirected back to the property page. I see how this makes sense for a user, but Google is saying there's an increase in Soft 404 errors and I've read that this could negatively affect organic traffic. Should I keep the redirect for removed properties or should I have it serve a 404 with a message that the house you're looking for may have sold and link to the property page? Is it better to have Soft 404 errors or 404 errors?

Detail page popup questions for real estate client
My client, discoverstl.com, recently changed their site structure so that the detail page for individual property opens as a popup within the main page they are visiting, see http://d.pr/i/e8ik after clicking view details on the featured property on the home page. While the url links out to a properly formatting detail page, such as VIEW DETAILS, the developer says this doesn't affect google as its a javascript tweak that pulls it into the existing page. I'm still not convinced and am looking if this is bad for our SEO campaign. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Redirects in site map
I have a site with the ace/sef ( creates friendly URLS) in a large data base site. It creates a site map dynamically. Yet I realize one issue which I am trying to think through. I recently changed my urls to include an ID number example: homepage/houses/1134-big-blue-house The prior url was: homepage/houses/big-blue-house the original url above redirects to the new one with the ID like I want. However the site map has both URLS in it which go to same page I am not sure but it seems rather stupid to have the new URL and OLD redirected URL in the site map. Yet beside stupid I am wondering if this is duplicate content and will cause a penalty from the google bot. What is your opinion ?

302 Redirects for Wordpress Blog Trackbacks
I'm a newbie, and just got my first crawl diagnostics report. I was looking at the temporary redirects, and virtually all of them are trackback URLs from our blog (we use ourdomain.com/blog and Wordpress). The diagnostics report says they're 302 redirects. Is this problematic and, if so, can you suggest the best way to fix the problem? Thanks in advance for your help!

How long should I keep 301 redirects?
I have modified a the URL structure of a whole section of a website and used mod_rewrite 301 redirect to match the new structure. Now that was around 3 months ago and I was wondering how long should I keep this redirect for? As it is a new website I am quite sure that there are no links around with the old URL structure but still I can see the google bot trying from time to time to access the old URL structure. Shouldn't the google bot learn from this 301 redirect and not go anymore for the old URL?

Can I redirect a URL that has a # in it? How?
Hi there - My web developer is saying that I can't do a URL redirect with a "#" in it. Currently, the URL is actually an anchored link within a page (which the URL indicates with a #). I want to change the content to a new URL, but our website links internally to the old URL, so we would need to do a URL redirect (assume 301). Can you tell me if this is possible and how? Thanks!
