New website & the dreaded drop in rank & queries.

It's been 18 days since I launched my new website, how should I wait be fore I start to worry. Is it natural for this kind of drop, should I go back to my original splash page?

Hi Miriam,
I am new to the forum, I didn't know the Vertical was for local listings. My locals are great, have been for years:-) & as of today my organics are back & better than ever.
While transferring my files from the old site to the new site I neglected to add my H1 H2 tags to my home page. YIKES! Also I changed my title & description during this down time. After I made the switch, Google started using the DMOZ snippet instead of my description. I took this as a sign that Google wasn't please with my description, this is not always true.
Anyways, I took some time to do some more work, incorporating some Schema code, adding a rel author, cleaning up content & keywords. Things are looking good for next year!

Hi Kristopher,
The more information you can provide us, the more helpfully we can answer your question. Please, tell us as much as you can about scenario. As you've chosen the Vertical SEO category for your question, is your business a local business? Have you been starting to work on citations? What else can you tell us about your site?

Take a deep breath. Your gonna be fine. Check the cache date. cache:your domain.com and see when it was indexed or if it even has been. Make sure you have all your ducks in order and just relax- it won't happen overnight.
I relaunched on a new platform June 18, 2011 and thought it was the end of the world. It took a good 60 days for things to normalize again but then we really started working.
Good luck.
Chad

Already ranking high for blog, should I produce video?
I run a website with affiliate links (reviews) and successful YouTube channel. Most of the time we lost the YouTube video review and text review at the same time. I’ve created a couple posts that rank high without a video. But now they are proving to be successful, I’m wondering if it makes sense to now produce a video. If so, do I use the exact keyword? Or a variation? Only about 10% of our YouTube views come from Google Search. Most of our blog traffic is organic.

Does duplicate content damage ranking in YouTube the same way it does on websites?
I'm asking this question due to the following scenario: When we have videos produced by Third Party video companies they upload the video to their YouTube account before us (the customer), has chance to upload it to ours. If this was an article that was uploaded to the web then the website uploading it first would be classed as the original piece and all other website uploading the article would be considered duplicates and not rank (As I believe). Hence my question, does YouTube work in the same way and hence our videos when searched in YouTube be secondary to our Third Party video companies as they are posting them first? Regards, Tom

How can we boost our rankings in a London-based Google search?
Hi all, I work for enterprise app development & mobile consultancy, Mubaloo. We tend to rank fairly well on Google for our targeted keywords in the Bristol area but not as well in London. Obviously there is more competition in London but that aside, we still don't rank brilliantly. We use our London address as our main address on our website, same for our London telephone number. Both of our offices are submitted to Google Maps and we include blog content with London and Bristol in the headers. Our main HQ is in Bristol but the London office is growing. What are the ways we can improve our rankings from a London-based Google search? Thank you in advance!

Do I need incoming links to my mobile site, if I want to rank for mobile search?
Does a mobile site need backlinks to rank? Or are onsite factors the one and only here? And what are the most important "onsite" factors for mobile seo?

Google Places & Maps
Hi I'm preparing a confernce in France to explain Google Places & Maps to an audience interested in promoting local businesses but mainly hotels and other tourism related. As you know, searches such as Hotel + City are giving a lot of visibility to Google Places results. Being in the top results is as important if not more important than organic ranking. I'm going to be looking into the new presentation of Google Places results in the SERPs and maybe underlining a difference in results between Places and Maps which I've just recently spotted. Can anyone recommend some good ressources online to explain the changes that came about with Google Places and ranking factors I should be talking about ? If you have a pet theory on what triggers the different presentation of Places results in the main SERPS or what factors make one local business rank better than another in Google Places then please discuss below too 😉 Ah ! Almost forgot, any feedback on Google Boost use also interesting for us ; although it isn't in France yet Thanks Neil
