Wordpress blog integration with full website effect on SEO
-
I have searched and searched for the answer to this question and can't find it.
We are going to be launching a Wordpress blog on our domain shortly, however we have a much larger site that is mixed with static and dynamic pages full of custom programming tied to databases, etc. that we are running around the blog and can't integrate that into Wordpress due to its complexity.
What this means is we have to install Wordpress on our servers somehow separate from the pages of our website.
What I am wondering is if we run Wordpress in the /blog directory of our site as a separate installation if it will inherit the domain authority of our domain (currently around 60) or if it will be viewed as a separate site and get no ranking. Also, will our main site inherit the additional link juice from the inbound links that we get from the blog with it being separate from the main site?
How does this need to be setup on our webservers to ensure the blog gets authority of the domain, and the blog contributes maximum SEO value to the domain?
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know what the rest of that passage says, but I don't see in that excerpt how the author says they should be separate. All he is saying is what a blog is meant to accomplish.
It can still be a part of your site, hosted on your domain, without being fully and completely integrated with all of the pages. It can look a little different, have a different feel about it, etc, but still be run within the parameters of your website.

Steve, Loganshark, thanks for sharing your experiences. I figured that this would be the case. Just wanted to get confirmation from people who have done this successfully.
Any additional advice from anyone would be appreciated. This project is a big step in our SEO initiative.

We can only speak from our experience, but we have had a similar setup on our site now for about 9 months and the effect that our main site's authority has on the blog seems to be slight. I don't think that Google or anyone else sees our blog as a separate site altogether, but it does seem that they recognize that that portion of our site is a blog and the rest of our site is e-commerce and index our pages accordingly.
Additionally, because our blog discusses a much wider range of topics than just what we sell on the site, it seems logical that some of our site's authority might not carry over to the blog pages because the content is so different.
All of that being said, the effect of our blog has been very positive. It has increased our organic traffic and is a great way to add new content.

Put it in the /blog subdirectory and your main domain authority will pass to it. Make sure you link to the blog from your main site. We have the same issue as you, and at first hosted on blog.domain.com but later moved to domain.com/blog based on advice from many people at SEOmoz.
To make sure the value is passed around, be sure to liberally link to and from the blog to other areas of your site.

SEO - Use pages on main site or set up outside keyword rich domains and websites
I have a client who is wanting to target searches for competitors products. His idea was to purchase domains related to the searches he's targeting (for example, people looking for another company's app) and to build out one page websites addressing the search query and why a customer would choose his app solution over a competitor. I know he'd have to build a handful of links to each site for any chance of success but I wanted to ask the following.. Would doing this be better than just building pages addressing the searches on his main website domain? Is there an SEO risk to doing this? Potential for a penalty? Anything we need to do to structure these in a way that won't violate Google's SEO guidelines? Any other thoughts on pros and cons of each strategy? Thank you! Ricky

Effect of Publishing Blog Posts Resembling Classified Advertisements
Our site (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com) markets commercial real estate for lease in New York City. Any potential negative impact in terms of ranking and traffic by using our blog post in an unconventional manner? I am considering publishing a weekly post describing the latest commercial listings for lease. The post would be formatted and resemble classified advertising appearing in such newspapers as The New York Times. The ads are concise and appealing. Property listings drive a high click thru rate, so I believe blogs posts based on property listings and formatted like old newspaper ads might really improve visitor engagement. Each add could have a link to a corresponding listing page. Would using the blog in this manner every week have a detrimental effect or could prove beneficial? Thoughts??? lr6MIiR

Website architecture - levels vs filters and authority loss - Enterprise SEO
Hi Everyone, I am participating in the development of a marketplace website where the main channel will be traffic via SEO. We have encountered the directories (levels) vs filters situation. 1. Does everyone still agree that if we have too many levels, authority is loss as you do down through the levels? Does everyone agree that there should be a max of 3 levels and never 4. Example 1 www.domain.com/level1/level2/level3 vs www.domain.com/level1 In theory, the content on "level 3" will have a lower DA than the content on "level1". 2. Does everyone agree that for enterprise SEO (huge marketplace websites) filters are a better idea than levels? Example 2 www.domain.com/level1/level2/level3 vs www.domain.com/filter-option1 In theory, the content on "level 3" will have a lower DA than the content on "filter-option1". Thanks so much in advance

Website not properly listed on google organic despite SEO efforts
Hello, I have worked thoroughly on my website tags including HTML titles, URLs, H1 headers and text on each section. The problem is that despite this effort, my website does not seem to improve in terms of ranking (the onsite optimization has been done 6 months ago already). We have a sitemap, we have done link building and everything but still no tangible progress. The anomaly I am experiencing is the following: If I search on Google.com.lb for "aparment for sale in lebanon" I don't get the section on my website that is optimized for that particular query (which is the Buy section located here http://www.ramcolb.com/apartment-sale-beirut-lebanon). my site appears only on page 6 but the Homepage appears which is very counter intuitive because it is not optimized for the "apartment for sale in Lebanon" keyword. And this anomaly is present on almost all sections and their relevant queries. The relevant section for the particular query never appears, it is always another irrelevant section that appears but far in the listings (beyond page 6). It is as if Google hasn't indexed properly my website and is mixing up the sections... Has anyone experienced this type of problems? what can be done? Thanks in advance

How to be a good SEO optimizer while competing with a good ranked Bad SEO optimizer?
My keywords are very competitive. My on page optimization report gives A grade for all the keywords I want to target to my Root domain. But my root domain does not show up on search engines for those same keywords. So thanks to SEOmoz i have managed to understand the place I lack is good link building. My competitors have done lot of link building through spamming, commenting on blogs, directories etc. Now according to good seo, this is not right. What do i do? I get digging more in it, i realized that i am getting traffic mostly for less globally searched keywords. But my competitors get high traffic from well searched keywords. How do i cope with such competition? Thanks
