SEO impact on archives and mirror services?
-
Hi,
We're looking at setting up an email archive site for certain lists related to our niche. We've been considering using archives.ourdomain.com versus ourdomain.com/archives. Part of the problem is that while the archives won't initially have huge amounts of content, over time it'll outstrip the amount of content we produce and I was worried about whether or not this would cause a duplicate content penalty as the emails will also be archived elsewhere.
If the volume of mails over time combined with duplication penalties are going to penalise the site, I'd rather we used a subdomain or a separate domain. If not, then subdomains might be the way to go.

I meant include this robot in the subdomain not include the subdomain in the robot. Was answering an employee at the same time and crossed some wires.

You have a few choices here to avoid that.
If you want to avoid it completely, simply include this entire subdomain.domain.tld in the robots.txt as:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /
Disallow: *Then place it in the root of your subdomain folder, for example if you sub was at subdomain.domain.tld you would normally have a folder called subdomain within your normal root folder.
Do not place this robots.txt file in your main folder or the whole site will not be indexed.
Extra measure, you can place a:
in the head section of each page.

I want your SEO feedback for my site!
Hello Moz community, Please check out my website http://www.likechimp.com - I'd love to know your thoughts. I have never built links for my website but managed to do pretty well on the rankings organically. Lately, figures have dropped so need to get back up there on Google. Any tips from what you see already would be greatly appreciated! Example ecom product I sell: http://likechimp.com/facebook-shop/buy-100-facebook-event-attendees/ Thanks

How many categories should you have within a blog / Wordpress Site for SEO?
Hi Guys I am just wondering whether or not for SEO purposes it is better to have a small number of categories for your blog posts to fit into as opposed to numerous ones. The reason I ask is that I have one site which is fairly new to the search engines - 8 months old which has 7 general categories within the blog for instance "rail contractors", "railway construction" "airport construction" etc I have another site which is 10 years old which has built up 25 different types of categories for instance brand design, brand development, brand management (i guess you could put all these under 1 category "branding"? We've been writing lots of press for both sites... yet the younger site is getting more coverage on Google page 1. Would this be because the blogs / press are more concentrated under a specific category as opposed to being spread thinly throughout the site? Any help would be appreciated. Debs 🙂

Disqus and SEO
It seems Disqus commenting system has grown and evolved so to make it easier to comment I've installed it on my 14 sites. I find moderation becomes much easier. Is Disqus SEO friendly and a part of an SEO process? (I checked the topic and only found one's dated back to 2011). Thanks, Don

Second Blog on the Same Site? Best SEO Practice
I would like to start up another blog which has more of a "technical" topic coverage vs my regular blog, which appeals more to non-techie business folks. If the goal is to drive traffic ultimately to the main site, should I do this second blog on a different domain, a subdomain, or try to incorporate it as a separate-but-equal blog on the same domain as the currrent one? What would you do?

Does anyone have some examples of Ecommerce websites that have great product reviews that are SEO friendly?
I am trying setup product reviews on an Ecommerce site and was wondering if there were some good websites to create a model around that is SEO friendly. Right now my reviews are in a separate directory off the review (http://www.example.com/review/product/etc) and I would like my reviews to be attributed to the product page to add in free, fresh, unique content that contains valuable information for both the user and SEO (new keyword derivatives). Also any suggestions on getting users to leave reviews? Whether it is a monetary incentive/coupon or a free method (of course this is preferred :)) Thanks in advance!
