Google Local results ranking

Are Google Local position results included in Moz ranking reports? If not, how can these be tracked and monitored?
Is a Google Local result likely to achieve a similar CTR as previous organic results?
Some of our previous good organic search rankings seem to have been replaced by Google Local results for our restaurant and hotel clients. Is this likely to achieve the same traffic and if not, is there a way to get back to organic results?
Thanks!

Thanks Miriam, appreciate your input!
Perhaps Google will add a way for Local results to represented as a group. We work with many chain restaurants and currently need to set up Google+ Local pages for each unit, which seems a bit overkill when there are 100 branches! As far as I know there isn't a way around this.
Cheers, Paul

Hi Ignite,
You've pointed out an interesting negative nuance of being included in the local results. Google will sometimes show more than one location in the local pack of results for a multi-location business, but not always, and if you have more than a couple of locations, it's very unlikely that they will all show up in the Local results unless you are literally the only game in town. For a broad phrase in a metro location, you probably will never achieve more than a single Local result, unfortunately, so, yes, I can see what you are saying about your previous organic results essentially being a more accurate representation of a franchise-type business than a single local result would be. There isn't really anything you can do about this, per se, but developing content that achieves you broader visibility organically for things like 'best clam chowder in boston' and other more long tail-type phrases is a path open to you for diversifying traffic.

Thanks everyone for your inputs.
In follow up to this, if you have a business, say a restaurant brand with multiple sites in one city.
For example: You target a fairly broad keyword phrase like: 'seafood restaurant london'. One site appears in the Local listings, with one address, but there are multiple sites for the same brand.
Obviously the result isn't accurate because the group is actually a good result for that keyword but only one unit within the group appears in the results, which might not be geographically ideal for the searcher.
Previously, the brands home page appeared in the organic results, now the single branch of the group appears in the Local listing.
Ideally Google local would work for a multi site brand with branches within a geographical area, but as far as I know it currently doesn't.
Anyone have insight into this conundrum?
Thanks!

Thanks Miriam, we are Pro members and sometimes it seems that our Local results don't seem to be included in our Moz rankings. Has anyone else experienced this?
Yeah I'd love to see a study on CTR Local Vs Organic for local, place orientated businesses.

Thanks. Agree that you cannot "rely" on the figures in Google Places, but relatively speaking you can use the information. I know that my client getting 1000 visits and 116 driving directions according to the dashboard, is getting much more exposure than the client getting 100 visits and 2 actions. The key for me is that it at least gives me some data for comparison versus a lot of 3rd party sites and directories that don't.

Hi Tim,
I think this is such a good point you make:
...building a wider footprint that is more valuable.
I think that diversity of the kind you describe is very healthy. *Bear in mind, you cannot rely on the figures in the Google Places dash, but yes, broadening the footprint is so important. Like your answer!

Ditto to Miriam. One thing I would add is that over the last year, I have noticed an interesting trend with all of my local SEO clients. Google direct organic traffic to their site has decreased, in some niches up to 10-15%. Despite this, they seem to be getting more calls and customers. There are more people making decisions from review sites and directory sites without going to the actual website, especially in restaurants and hotels that you mentioned. If you check out stats on Google+ Local/ Places, Yelp, etc. you will see that visits to those pages have gone up. So we had to readjust our entire thinking and now keep a big part of our focus on ubiquity, building a wider footprint that is more valuable.
Regarding CTR, Google would not still have the maps listings there if they weren't getting the CTR. Their model requires that people click or else they have failed to serve up good results. Trust me, they have tested thoroughly. They may get rid of the maps listings again, and if they do it is because they realized that the organic listings started working better. Do what we do, adapt to what they have and do a great job with it.

Hi Ignite,
They are included in current ranking reports for PRO members, yes. Hope you will give it a try!
You are experiencing a common phenomenon with your organic vs. local rankings. Since the Venice update, it has become uncommon for any local business to have more than one spot per results page. So, if you make it into the local pack of results, you are likely to see your previous organic rank disappear because it has been subsumed into your new blended local rank. There are exceptions to this, but what you are describing is pretty typical.
Unfortunately, I do not know of any high level studies that have compared CTR for local vs. organic. It would be great if someone would publish such a study. Hope this helps.

This happened to us a while back last year, we haven't seen a drop in traffic at all to be honest. I've heard from other people who have experienced the same and agreed that traffic hasn't decreased. I suppose it also depends on the nature of your business whether or not people will click through the place page too.
I'm not sure about how to 'get back to organic results' in this situation but I'd be interested if anybody did know how.

Abnormal crawl issues appearing in my Moz results
I have been asked to look at a site for a friend and was more than surprised to see 16,9k crawl issues appear in the dashboard... of this 6,238 are duplicate page content and 5878 are duplicated page titles. What on earth is going on? I have spoken to the web developer as it appears there is a dev site somewhere and this is his response [Can I stress that Google determines which site was in the index first and then removes other sites it sees as having duplicate content. Our dev sites appearing in the search index would not affect your ranking due to duplicate content as Google would see your site as the first site with the content] As I cannot make contact with him, I am scratching my head, surely a dev site should be no-indexed, it sounds as though he is saying that its ok because Google will take the main site as the first site with the content... Very confused! Help need MOZ community. Manythanks, Sarah

Could client be skewing search results?
I'm working with a client that is searching Google numerous times per day for various phrases that his site may rank for. A lot of these he uses the same search phrase multiple times/day to see if there is any change. Unfortunately, these are not the phrases I have optimized his site for. Moz is now displaying some of these search phrases along with associated pages and grading them as F - because they are not optimized for these phrases. Is it possible that my client caused this by doing the searches? If I already have particular pages grading an A for the targeted term chosen, should I attempt to add elements to move the F to a better position for the new keyword phrase being suggested? (I always thought you should target one page/phrase. Thanks!!

Listing of all Google Indexed Pages
I started managing a site that has about 391,000 indexed pages. I want to get to the bottom of why there are so many in preparation for a ecommerce Migration and improving SEO. Anyone know of a tool? Many tools I have came across can only take 100 at a time. I would love to get them in excel or a database. I look forward to the suggestions.

Universal rankings has made my page not show in rankings any more
We've had a page with a video on it for ages; it always ranks well, generally around no. 5. But I've noticed that it's now ignored in SEMOZ as a page, and only shows as a Universal Result - so it looks as though our top page is no. 22, even thought the video shows as an icon still in the same position, no. 5. That's annoying as I now have to explain to my stakeholders how come our rankings appear to have dropped off a cliff - when i fact they haven't. The page appears in google SERPS exactly as it always has. Can anything be done to make it appear back as it did in SEMOZ? Thanks

Why am I getting different ranking results on Google?
Because the rank checker on SEOMOZ is temporarily down for upgrade, I followed the link over to the other suggested rank checker on seobook.com which installs a plug-in to Firefox and it seems to be working fine….BUT my question is when I check out my two highest traffic keywords which are “Whitby holiday cottages” and “Whitby cottages” against my website www.endeavourcottage.co.uk it tells me I'm ranking position 2 on both Google.com and Google.co.uk but I don't think I am. When I do the same check using a proxy server called hidemyass.com to check my rankings again on Google.co.uk and .com I appeared to be lower down the rankings like position 8. Does anyone have any idea of which is the accurate reference to my rankings? What do you do to check your rankings ? And one last quick secondary question is when I searching Google chrome using same key words again I come at the top position A on the Google maps listing but using Firefox or Internet Explorer there is no Google maps visible ways that? At the end of the day out rankings are important but where are working towards more traffic...... Cheers

Why are we not ranking? We have done all we can think of. Can you help?
We have an old domain that we have had for years now. And recently. December, we completely redesigned the site, I mean a complete overhaul, design, architecture, asp to php for example. Resubmitted to google via webmaster with a new site map etc. Our website for reference is www.completeoffice.co.uk. We are trying to rank in UK google, www.google.co.uk, for the term office refurbishment kent (we are on page 2) and office refurbishment (we are on page 17). This is confusing me, because thats 7 pages lower than we were originally, before the site design, its better seo wise, duplicate content is none, title tage meta tags all correct, domain authority has doubled from 12 to 24 in a few months all in an effort to rank better. our homepage and office refurb pages both got an A on the on page SEOmoz tool test. So we dont understand why we are not ranking highly. It seems sites, much uglier and less seo friendly than our with same or lower domain authority are ranking at least 10 pages higher than us. Why is this? Can anyone help or give us a few suggestions. All help greatly appreciated. SEOmozzers.

Confused by Google Mobile App (on Blackberry) results??!
First off, Hi guys I'm a new user here, in fact only in my second week of my trial period. However, I can assure you that I'll be continuing my subscription as this website is 'one hell of a bit of kit!'. Now, to my predicament. I have a website: http://www.limegreenofficeproducts.co.uk which I am trying to move on up the rankings in Google (just like everyone else...). Well, I have followed the instructions and guidance through the Campaign Manager and I have 'A' ratings now for a couple of my preferred keywords, namely 'Office Supplies' & 'Office Products'. I also have a number of textlinks with these exact terms, some quite powerful (I'm the only outbound link on a Homepage PR5 on one). Anyway, being a complete and utter control freak - I wake up in the morning and check my rankings using the Google Mobile App for Blackberry whilst throwing as much coffee as possible down my neck. Basically (if you're not familiar with this app, it is just the same as connecting to the mobile internet and carrying out a search - or at least it should be). Well I was really excited to find that I was ranking at No.41 for 'Office Supplies' and No.17 for 'Office Products'. When I fully woke up and ventured to the office, I checked on the Mac through the normal Google UK and I'm nowhere, for either? What makes it even more confusing is that the results on the mobile seem to be intermittent - so if I check at 11.00am I'm No.17, 11.05 I'm nowhere, 11.10 back to No.17 - but only on the Mobile App. I have the Mobile App set up to Google UK, so that can't be the problem. I'm just wondering if either the Mobile App is ahead of the 'Real' Google UK results, or behind. The main reason for asking, is so that I can establish whether what I am doing is having a positive, or negative effect on the rankings. And if this is an quicker way to find out - then great! I assume the advice to come back will be '..ignore the mobile app..' but as it's being kinder to me than the 'Real' Google I'd like to be a bit kinder to it, and give the little fella the benefit of the doubt. But having said that I just checked the search results (Top 1000) for Keywords 'Office Supplies' & 'Office Products' - For Office Products the site was No.614 and for 'Office Supplies it wasn't in the top 1000, ouch. I know these things take time, as I have worked on a couple of other sites of ours and it seems that as soon as you are about to throw the towel in, the results just kick in. I'm not expecting miracles overnight, far from it - but it has me really confused. Does anyone have any suggestions/advice?(except '...get a life coffee fiend') Regards Limegreen
