Is my text readable? I don't see it in the page source
-
Text on my site seems to be readable in a text only version (the page is not cached so I viewed it by disabling JAVA and then copy and pasted the page into Word)
However, when I look in the page source I don't see the text there.
The text was created using Open X html boxes to help us with formatting, but is this causing an SEO problem?
-
Could well be, try viewing as googlebot or bingbot in wmt

It's a new site and I have now confirmed it's not readable
Not the answer I was looking for, but thanks for all the help!

If this is happening throughout your site and your site is more than a few months old and has some links to it, I'd be skeptical as to whether the content (or even the urls) are being indexed--especially considering that you have to turn off your JS to view the source. Remember, the bot is like a stripped stripped down browser and can't all of the code your browser can. How old is your site and is any of it being indexed?
Also, do you have some sort of plugin installed to deter content from being duplicated from your site? I've seen that show the same symptoms as what you're describing.

Hi Sara,
The best way to check what Googlebot is seeing is by going into your Google Webmaster Tools account, and clicking
Health >>Fetch as Googlebot.
Paste your URL in, and then click on whatever appears in the "Fetch Status" column, which will likely be "Success". You can then see the code that Googlebot is reading, which should be your page source code.
If you don't have GWT set up yet, you can accomplish pretty much the same thing with publicly available spider simulators like this one: http://www.webconfs.com/search-engine-spider-simulator.php
Hope that helps!

Hi,
If you can see it with javascript turned off then it should be readable by the search engines. I am not familiar with open x boxes, care to give a url so we can have a quick look?

My keywords aren't performing for my Umbraco site
A client of mine has just redesigned their site which was pretty small (homepage, about us page and contact us page) and now it includes homepage, about us page, 3 services pages, 5 blog posts and a contact us page. their domain authority is 5, so that gives you an idea of their size. We updated their key pages with keyword optimised content and added the keyword to their meta title and meta description. they're in the process of adding the alt tags and also they need to enable meta tags for the blog posts. Everything is quite in the process at the moment and their organic traffic is low. But I believe that some of the keywords should start moving places for the pages that have been optimised and they haven't. Is there any reason for this? I believe the services pages which have meta tags should have started ranking at least in very low position for the selected keywords. Is there something I'm missing? Thank you!

What sort of content for 'non-niche' website?
Hey guys, had a question with regards to content production. We run an store called Yellow Octopus in Australia and we've literally got thousands of products (4500 skus last count). We've got everything from novelty mugs to kitchen accessories to gag gifts, t-shirts and tech gadgets. I've read a lot of material on creating awesome content to attract backlinks and we are ready to craft our content strategy. We've got a team in place - graphic designer, illustrator and writers to execute that strategy. It's just a matter of formulating the strategy! Largely speaking I have an idea of the quality of content required because I look at a lot of it. The real issue is what type of content is right for us? Most of the articles I have read focus on niche industries i.e. SEO, Piano sales or health foods. Right off the bat I can come up with hundreds of content pieces that work around those niches. However, with such a diverse range of products I'm unsure of what our niche really is, in fact not having a niche is almost our niche. Of course we could do gift guides like '30 Unbelievable Gifts for Foodies' (and we do, do those). However they aren't really the type of posts that are likely to attract back-links. Is the best strategy to split the content into categories? What sort of content pieces would you suggest for a company such as ours? Many thanks in advance!

How to remove my site's pages in search results?
I have tested hundreds of pages to see if Google will properly crawl, index and cached them. Now, I want these pages to be removed in Google search except for homepage. What should be the rule in robots.txt? I use this rule, but I am not sure if Google will remove the hundreds of pages (for my testing). User-agent: *

How long takes to a page show up in Google results after removing noindex from a page?
Hi folks, A client of mine created a new page and used meta robots noindex to not show the page while they are not ready to launch it. The problem is that somehow Google "crawled" the page and now, after removing the meta robots noindex, the page does not show up in the results. We've tried to crawl it using Fetch as Googlebot, and then submit it using the button that appears. We've included the page in sitemap.xml and also used the old Google submit new page URL https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url Does anyone know how long will it take for Google to show the page AFTER removing meta robots noindex from the page? Any reliable references of the statement? I did not find any Google video/post about this. I know that in some days it will appear but I'd like to have a good reference for the future. Thanks.

How can I change my website's content on specific pages without affecting ranking for specific keywords?
My client's website (www.nursevillage.com) content has not been touched for 4 years and we are currently ranking #1 for "per diem nursing". They do not want to make any changes to the site in fear that it might decrease our rankings. We want to try to use utilize that keyword ranking on specific pages (www.nursevillage.com/nv/content/careeroptions/perdiem.jsp ) ranking for "per diem nursing" and try redirecting traffic or placing some banners and links on that page to specific pages or other sites related to "per diem nursing" jobs so we can get nurses to apply to our new nursing jobs. Any advice on why "per diem nursing" is ranking so high for us and what we can change on the site without messing up our ranking would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
