Pro newbie - What is a "campaign"?
-
I signed up three weeks ago and the first email to me begins with:
The first step in PRO is to set up your campaign. Once we start tracking your site and social media accounts, you'll start receiving handy reports of your data. You can also surface site issues right in the app to help you prioritize which fixes you can make for immediate results.
At this point I don't know what kind of "campaign" this is or what the "app" is.
I have also lodged a ticket because something seems to be broken about my Pro status. I can obviously participate here, so I have a Pro status, but at OSE, it says "Social metrics only available to paid Moz subscribers. Learn more" and hit my Advanced Report limit for the day without seeing any such report.
-
The question was more by way of feedback that the welcome email could expand those concepts with a sentence or two as per the above replies. I signed up but then travelled before using the tools three weeks later and was reacting to an article by Chris Warren at Distilled, which sent me to OSE. And that site didn't think I was Pro. I then wondered if I needed to download some app for a phone. Sorry but it was 7 am on a Saturday morning.
Incidentally, having started a campaign, my ""Social metrics only available to paid Moz subscribers" error message went away, so perhaps OSE gets a prod after a campaign is started?

Hi Ash, and welcome to Moz! I've flagged this question for the help team to come in and answer, and you should be hearing from them soon about OSE.
Here's an introduction to get you started: http://moz.com/help/pro/introduction.
A campaign is generally the website you're working on, and the app is Moz. This just means to put in the website you're working on and we'll start letting you know about any problems we find.
-
Hey Ash, Welcome to Moz.
Firstly "a campaign" is what you setup to monitor your website's SEO performance. Think of a campaign as like "a project".
"The app" is simply the application/interface where you see all the data pertaining to "the campaign".
If you've not yet setup your first campaign, please go to http://pro.moz.com/campaigns/new and follow the steps.
Once you have a campaign setup go to http://moz.com/pro/home to access it within the app.
Hope that helps,
Woody

Why does page report still have "Too Many Links" alert?
I'm a new Moz Pro user and see that the on-page optimization report includes "too many links" on page and references the "100 links" guideline that Google no longer endorses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=l6g5hoBYlf0 Too many links is still an issue in terms of passing link juice, but not much else. Matt Cutts has stated that it is fine to have many internal links in this regard. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

Why Are Moz Pro Ranking SOOOO Inaccurate?
I have a set of keywords for which I have been consistently ranking in the top 10 for months. Moz Pro, a service that I pay for, has shown for the past couple of months that I don't even rank in the top 50. Google Webmaster Tools confirms that I have been ranking in the top 10 for these keywords. Am I doing something wrong or is Moz Pro more of an estimation tool? Thanks 😉

What's the best way for SEO newbie to analyze & fix a site after being hit by Panda?
Hi, I have a prospective client who was in the top 3 on Google for two of their primary keywords. They fell way back in the rankings immediately after Panda was rolled out on September 27, 2012. Two weeks ago, they were at position #118 for one keyword. After looking for them in Rank Checker today, they cannot be found in Google at all. Here's my question. Because of the "bad links" (some pointing to Porno sites)... what's the possibility that this situation cannot be fixed? I don't know... maybe I'm asking an irrelevant question. I'm attempting to assess the situation so I can go back and present my findings to the prospective client. I'm committed to understanding what's going on with their website so I can assess the situation properly. Fixing their problem starts with a correct assessment. They have a ranking problem, and I know I can fix that... IF all their site needs is white hat SEO. What I DON'T want is... to sell them SEO services, only to find out in 3-6 months... I made an incorrect diagnosis of the problem, and therefore sold them the wrong solution. I know I can close the sale if I can show them with reasonable substantiation that the damage is not beyond repair. I'm familiar with the basics of SEO, but I'm unfamiliar with how "bad linking" might effect the long-term commitment to optimizing. They're wondering if they should start over on another website. I was attempting to do an assessment to better understand if my typical approach on this site would be sufficient. Also... I wanted to get an assessment/report to show them something to substantiate my conclusion(s) about their website. If Open Site Explorer is sufficient to do the link analysis... great. At least I know I'm working with the right tool. All I have to do is learn how to use the tool quickly. At this point... I'm not sure which tool would be helpful. So... can you speak to the following 2 questions: 1.) How do you know when ranking problem is beyond fixing? 2.) What software/tool is ideal for doing some link analysis in order to assess the problem, and prescribe a solution? Thanks so much! Ramon

Data Missing In Pro Account
Hi All, I've been using Pro for a couple of years with nothing more than the occasional glitch, however, almost every day there is some kind of data missing from a campaign or two within my account recently. It's got to the point that I send a support ticket most days, no matter how insignificant the problem. Often I just need to disconnect and reconnect Analytics, but it's becoming very frustrating. Is it just me who's having these issues or do other people have the same problem recently? Thanks, Steve

Once I start a campaign, is it possible to edit the domain?
I accidentally submitted a subdomain instead of the root domain. Is it possible to fix this? Or how should this be addressed? Thanks in advance!

Can I calculate "Keyword Difficulty" metric using Mozscape API data?
We already have a web application that pulls certain metrics about websites using the Mozscape API, but we are wanting to extend the usefulness of this application to enable users of the app to pull "Keyword Difficulty" metrics in bulk, instead of one at a time (or 5 at a time). I wouldn't mind the 5 at a time limitation if we could just automate the API calls and let the tool pull data for 50 or so keywords without user-interaction. I know that it's a "formula", but I don't know what SEOMoz uses for it's formula. Has anyone figured out a way to calculate this, based on the Mozscape API data? Has anyone ever tried to reverse engineer this metric?

SEOmoz indicating duplicate page content on one of my campaigns
Hello All, Alright, according to SEOmoz's PRO campaign manager, one of my websites is returning about 2,700 pages that supposedly have duplicate content. I checked a few of them manually and am not seeing where the issue lies. Is anyone else experiencing something similar to this and do you know if it is just a glitch with the crawl? Here are 2 of the pages it is indicating have dup page content: http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/c-3120-1994-98-59l-12v-dodge-cummins-carbon-fiber-hoods.aspx http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/c-90-dodge-cummins-94-02-59l-12v24v.aspx Any insight would be greatly appreciated! -Craig

Help with On-page Optimization in Campaign Manager
Hi, I don’t know if I am incredibly stupid or am just missing something with the on-page optimization report page. I have 11 key phrases set up covering five or pages. When I grade each key phrase against the page I have optimized for it using the on-page keyword optimization (Term Target) they score A/B’s. The issue I have is the campaign manager on-page optimization report only appears to check all the key phrases against the home page, as it shows several F reports. How do I set it up so it grades each key phase against the correct site page. Thanks Fraser
