What are the best practices for optimizing a site for multiple locations?
-
I have a client that operates in multiple states. I am trying to find a way to best optimize their website, but all of the best practices for "local SEO" seem to be for things such as restaurants, small businesses, etc. I am looking for a way to optimize for the industry keywords as well as location. Any best practices/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Mandy,
The second part of Keri's question is important. To create a strategy, you must first answer these questions:
-
Does the client meet face-to-face with customers or is business done virtually?
-
Does the client have a physical office/s in cities within the states you are mentioning? Do customers come to these offices or do employees leave from these offices to serve customers at their places of business?
Your opportunities for promotion are based on the business model (physical vs. virtual). Please provide as much detail as you can so that you will receive the best possible answer from the community.

Sorry for the delay - I couldn't log into my account yesterday to respond.
The multiple locations are in different states within the New England area (New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont). They are in the fire safety systems industry and provide products such as sprinkler systems for businesses.
Based on the first response, I am leaning towards recommending the following:
- Create a specific page for each location
- Optimize each location page for Meta Description, H1, Title Tag, etc.
- Create a different user experience on every location page, ie - directions to each location.
If anyone has any other thoughts on how to go about optimizing that would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with Keri, can we get some more info. You mentioned multiple locations? Are they connected areas, for example "North Carolina & South Carolina"
-
Can you say what industry? Do the people meet with clients at a particular location?

This has been gone over several times. Below are some great links to help you with that.

Best Video Sitemap plugin for wordpress? And do I need both a video sitemap and a normal one?
Hi all, I currently use the Google XML Sitemaps plugin on my wordpress site. But we've recently began adding (self-hosted) videos that we've been careful to markup with the relevant schema. However, there's a couple of things I don't understand and am hoping someone could help: Do we need a separate video sitemap that either works alongside Google XML Sitemaps or replaces it? If we do need a video sitemap, what's the best video site map to get? (we are using the Thesis theme so can't use the Yoast one unfortunately as they don't play nice together...) Thanks for your help! Andrew

Multiple Google Places Accounts - Same Physical Location
Hi there, One of my clients is a local law firm. I have created, populated and verified a Places page for them, but now I have discovered that they had previously created one for each of their attorneys at that location. According to Google's quality guidelines, this is totally fine. However, I am wondering if I should try to verify each of these accounts within Places to enhance their listing coverage? One thing I've already tried is modifying some of the listing details via Map Maker, but it would be nice to just make edits en masse, I think. Any suggestions?

Duplicate Video within site
My questions is about duplicate video content. I haven't been able to get a clear understanding from reading the previous threads. We are hosting our videos with Vimeo and embedding into our site. I want to embed them in 2 locations - on our features page with Java (Can be seen here http://simpletexting.com/features/). I also want to embed them in our resource section so that we can link to them directly. I am wondering what the best way to do this for SEO and whether there is a chance that google will penalize us for duplicate content? If leave out the videos on the features page in the XML sitemap, does that address the problem? There are 2 threads I saw on the topic and they have somewhat conflicting opinion from the same person. http://www.seomoz.org/q/duplicate-video-content-question --Duplicate video on the same site is not a problem http://www.seomoz.org/q/duplicate-video-onsite-how-do-you-treat-this-in-sitemap -- Duplicate videos are a problem as google can recognize them as such due to audio wave patterns, video length etc. Thanks

Optimizing title tags for a different town then the business is located in.
I'm looking for a little help, because I'm stuck. I was taught that when doing geo specific title tags you must include the city the business is located in. For example,Dentist North Springfield, even if there is nobody searching for dentists north boulder because everyone is searching for dentists boulder. As in they are considered one in the same. Can I optimize for Springfield or will I be penalized. Thanks

What's the best practice for submitting to YouTube?
Hi all, I'm looking to start having video on my website and have chosen YouTube to host. But what I am asking is "what is the best practice for submitting a video to YouTube". I would have thought that having a transcript would be good, as this will explain what is in the video, a good title to indicate the subject and then just a few keywords/tags for what I believe the audience would be searching for to find my video. Is this the best practice? Or am I totally wrong? Any help would be appreciated

How to optimize for a business in a town that nobody is searching for
This is the first time I have run into this problem, but hopefully someone can answer this. If a business is located in lets say in South Londonery, but everyone is searching for Londery what is the best way to tackle this. I should also add that both have different zip codes but as far as search there is no distinction as they are considered the same, and South Londonery is never used. So while it would be easy to rank high for South Londonery, it's pretty much useless.

How do I effectively utilize multiple campaigns
I'm fairly new to SEO and I'm wondering the best way to utilize SEOmoz's multiple campaigns feature. I've set up a "general" campaign with our top key words and competitors to analyze against our domain and I wondered which verticals would make the best second and third SEOmoz campaign.
