Why are none of the links we've received from press and other sources from the last two months showing on our Inbound Links in OSE???
-
It's really hard to judge if the DA of our site according to MOZ is 1) up to date and 2) accurate when for example there are SO many inbound links still not recorded, that were published months ago.
-
True. Thanks Matt.
-
That's an interesting suggestion Joe - thanks. We'll do that!
-
Yea I was thinking the same... Not the best feeling given you pay for a PRO account and you expect that at least the information will be accurate... What else have you been doing to monitor your DA then since the data from MOZ seems for now, unreliable?
-
The thing is, there's no way to get "all" of your links. WMT doesn't have them, Ahrefs, Majestic, OSE and Open Link Profiler only capture a fraction of the overall links you have.
I am sure that Moz, Ahrefs, Majestic and the rest all do the absolute best they can do with the resources they have. Even Google. But you're never going to get the 100% picture. So the best thing you can do is use as many resources as you have access to and build a list around that.
As far as DA & PA, they're guestimates and they're pretty good but they aren't the be-all & end-all. Any metric you can find online is essentially an estimate.

Awesome answer, I used https://ahrefs.com and most of my links are contained in there, that's a relief thanks a bunch.

Hey everyone!
Depending on when we discover your links on those external sites, it can take 2-3 index updates for them to appear.
There are two types of link data we capture: External and Internal Linking pages. In order for us to discover backlinks to your site, we need to crawl the sites and pages linking to you that have high authority. Once we can find those links, we will then be able to crawl your site to find pages you link to and so forth.
Here's how we compile our index:
- We grab the most recent index.
- We take the top 10 billion URLs with the highest MozRank (with a fixed limit on some of the larger domains).
- We start crawling from the top down until we've crawled 90,000,000,000 pages (which is about 35% the amount in Google's index).
Therefore, if the site is not linked to by one of these seed URLs (or one of the URLs linked to by them in the next update) then it won't show up in our index. Check the Just Discovered Links section to see if your link is processing. Links that appear there can take 1-2 updates to show up in inbound links.
Other tools, such as Webmaster Tools, Ahrefs, and Majestic will alway show more link data as they target the quantity of links, while OSE focuses more on quality and Domain Authority (our metric). It’s best to use all the tools you can to obtain a full backlink profile.
Mozscape focuses on a breadth-first approach. Therefore we almost always have content from the homepage of websites, externally linked-to pages, and pages higher up in a site's information hierarchy. However, deep pages that are buried beneath many layers of navigation are sometimes missed and it may be several index updates before we catch all of these. Run a search for those external linking sites and check their domain authority, if it isn't high enough we may not have a reason to re-crawl them to find your new links.
-
One thing you can do to get your links found in OSE faster is to make a Bit.ly shortened version of the link and get it clicked. I usually tweet out the links, make sure they get clicked and you should see those pages with the links get crawled and show up within a day or less.
Hope that helps,
Happy Holidays - Joe

Moz does not specialise in link scanning and they only display a fraction of your actual links in Open Site Explorer. If you want a complete list of your backlinks use your WMT or Ahrefs.
Domain Authority score has actually been invented by Moz so I believe they know how to count that value properly! You might be confusing domain authority with Google's Page Rank which are two entirely different things, although their values are very often similar or the same.
Check this link on how domain authority works and is measured - http://moz.com/learn/seo/domain-authority

I get this problem too, been puzzling over it for a while, like you I posted on this concern, but I didn't get a satisfactory answer, is probably worse that you think, by my calculation about half of my inbounds are missing, not very reassuring, but maybe given your expereincing it too, it might be a moz issue.

Link Explorer is not working for particular domain
Hello, Linking Domain section in Link Explorer is not working fine for sewingmachineprice.com. When I put this domain to analyze for backlinks it says, "You entered the URL https://sewingmachineprice.com/ which redirects to www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=sewingmachineprice&e=com. Click here to analyze www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=sewingmachineprice&e=com instead." In fact, this domain is not redirected to any third domain or URL. I personally checked it and can access this website without any redirection.

Links to non-exisiting pages
Hi, I have tons of incoming links to target pages on my website that do not exist. If you follow the link you get a 404 error. The anchor text is always a "spammy" non related text. Does anyone know what is happening and how to get rid or block these links? Thanks, Dirk

Inbound Link checking gets different answers
I've been comparing the inbound links report from Open Site Explorer against other backlink services and the results are very different. E.g. Compare the domain on http://backlinkwatch.com/ When I ran my test this other service found about 30% more active backlinks...why would Open Site Explorer skip those results?

OSE: Missing back-links and High DA website with low DA backlinks
I have gone through a website with 81 DA; where its link equity back-links with highest DA of 70. Hardly 5 back-links 60 to 70 DA and just 25 root domains. This seems very unusual to me. Can someone clarify this for me? Can a website with low DA back-links can make high DA? If so what could be other major contributing factors for this?

Does Moz allow you to upload your disavow to take into account when analysing links?
I was wondering if moz allows you to upload your disavow file and if it has a consideration in the data supplied? Otherwise how can we accurately use moz to understand the true analytics of our site?

OSE Advanced Reports - behaving inconsistently
Yesterday, there was an error message on the Advanced Reports tab in OSE: "Oops! It looks like our system is temporarily down. Please check back soon." That cleared up after a couple of hours. After that, I ran an Advanced Report that I run on occasion, and it only returned 3500 links, whereas it normally returns around 23K. Since then, I've run the same report 9 times in total over the course of about 1 day, and each time the number of links keeps increasing. 3500, 10150, 21550, 25400, 28650, 35450, 37400, 38200, 50375. I'm wondering what is happening? I want to do some evaluating of my backlinks, however I'd prefer to work on a "complete" list of links and the number of links keeps going up, when generating reports using the same criteria. When can I expect Advanced Reports to be "stable" where it's producing roughly the same number of links? Also, I opened up a support ticket on this with Moz.com over 24 hours ago, and haven't received any response. I've updated the ticket 2 times now, but no response. Disappointing they are not responding to support tickets. Thanks.

Open Site Explorer doesn't show local directories or citation links?
Why is it that when I run a link analysis for my local business sites I don't see any links from Yelp, Google+, Facebook, any local citations? Regardless of them being follow or no follow isn't the hyperlink to a website from a Yelp profile considered a link? Same with any other local business directory? I know the company is listed on a few dozen because I can see it manually but it's not showing up in Moz? Why is it that all local directories and citations with website are omitted? And since it is not there, where is a good place to go to discover these things? I have tried whitespark. It was okay but honestly I wasn't terribly impressed. The data was good, the UI was just okay, but with smaller clients it was an initial check and then very occasional checks that needed to happen. We would go months without using it.

Links from no-indexed pages in Open Site Explorer
I just looked up a site in Open Site Explorer. After putting in the site, I get a list of domains, links etc which is very useful. At the bottom is a note which I have pasted below. It mentions "24 links from no-indexed pages" and says we can't get any info on these. Is there a way to see what the 24 links are so I can investigate further?"Why does my number of inbounds links listed not match my total links count? The listed number may be slightly different because we only show 25 links per domain (so that you see a variety). Additionally you have 24 links from no-indexed pages. Unfortunately, we can't get info for those links."
