I am being black hat SEO'd by another company. What should I do?
-
Hi There,
I found out about 6 months ago that I have been getting black hat SEO'd by another company.
There are around 350 spammy domains pointing to my home page and product page.
I have disavowed a lot of them. Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks!

Disavow those bad links and seek to increase the number of good reputable links you have. I checked out the url, you have a great looking site!
I bet you could relatively easily get some influential health food bloggers or magazine editors to write about your products. Food's relatively easy to get links for because you can send out 1000s of samples to influencers at a very tiny cost. This is a time honored PR method that still applies in the digital age. If people like the food and the message, they will many times write about it. I'd suggest approaching those types of influencers, telling them the story of your brand and potentially sampling them. If they like your product, chances are they will write about it and you might get some great backlinks out of it. Key is you cannot pay for those links, they must be freely given because the editor/blogger/writer likes your product and/or brand. Best of luck!

I've been followin the "Negative SEO" world for years - http://www.canuckseo.com/index.php?s=%22negative+seo%22 - will lead to our own blog posts on same...
Suffice it to say - please tho do read some other experts and how they say to fight off same - the best tool you have is the Google disavow one - oh, don't forget that BING has one too, eh!
Hang in. Stay on top by using a great very functional IBL tool too like majestic too...and keep on the disavow trail...is the best thing I can offer today....

Hi Oscar,
Are you noticing anything negative in terms of your phrases slipping? The reason I ask, is that Google is pretty smart when it comes to links, and someone just building spammy links isn't usually enough to draw a penalty on its own. If Google sees a few hundred spammy links appear overnight (figuratively speaking) then they are likely to just ignore them.
By all means disavow these bad links, but focus more on getting new links - be careful how you do this though. I have clients who have thousands upon thousands of low quality / spammy links, but the fact that I keep the link profiles topped up with high quality links, keeps penalties away.

You're pretty much doing what you can. Continue to disavow and continue to build high quality links. The stronger your link profile, the less likely you are to receive a penalty.

Lightboxes and SEO
Do lightboxes (AKA popup boxes when you click "learn more" type CTAs) have any negative effect on SEO? We are looking at revamping our sites to have more of a tiled approach, and a lightbox with summary content popping out with additional CTAs, directing to pages with more information or free trial pages. Is there any downside to this approach from an organic perspective? is there anything specific to keep in mind when creating these if not?

Google's 'related:' operator
I have a quick question about Google's 'related:' operator when viewing search results. Is there reason why a website doesn't produce related/similar sites? For example, if I use the related: operator for my site, no results appear.

https://www.google.com/#q=related:www.handiramp.com The site has been around since 1998. The site also has two good relevant DMOZ inbound links. Any suggestions on why this is and any way to fix it? Thank you.0 -
Any issue? Redirect 100's of domains into one website's internal pages
Hi all, Imagine if you will I was the owner of many domains, say 100 demographically rich kwd domains & my plan was to redirect these into one website - each into a different relevant subfolder. e.g. www.dewsburytilers..com > www.brandname.com/dewsbury/tilers.html www.hammersmith-tilers.com > www.brandname.com/hammersmith/tilers.html www.tilers-horsforth.com > www.brandname.com/horsforth/tilers.html another hundred or so 301 redirects...the backlinks to these domains were slim but relevant (the majority of the domains do not have any backlinks at all - can anyone see a problem with this practice? If so, what would your recommendations be?

Where Does Blogging Fit Into SEO
I read an article yesterday that said blogging comes under the heading of social media, which is at the top of the so called SEO pyramid. I have taken this to mean less time should be spent in social media compared to other areas of SEO. Yet content creation was at the bottom of the pyramid (more time allocation here). Isn't blogging part of content creation? I would have thought there is a limit to what can be done for service/product & landing pages. Whereas blogs are a great way to produce more unique content for a website. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks - Christina

Adwords Policy and SEO
I have a customer who runs campaigns on adwords and we have had real problems with his ads being taken down due to certain ingredients being present in supplements. Now we move towards his SEO campaign and we wondered if the natural listings are effected by sites that list banned substances or pages listed on the adwords policy as being banned ? Has anyone experienced a site being downgraded by link being present from sites that provided products or services that are banned from being advertised on Google adwords ?

What are the best suites of SEO tools?
I normally use SEOmoz and a bit of SEMrush but I dont really know much outside of those two. Im looking to do a review of the big, trustworthy ones - along the lines of free trial price vs value ranktracking linkbuilding help onpage analysis and help competitor analysis reports I heard good things about Raven Tools and Web CEO. Ive seen mention of SEOpowersuite on this forum but the site looks spammy as hell Anyone have a view on those 5 tools or any others in a similar vein? Or any other top line criteria I should be looking at? Cheers
