URLS are top keywords in GA?
-
Hey Moz,
For some reason on my father's website, michaelpadway.com, the top 2 keywords from organic are complete urls from his site. This doesn't makeugh sense to me. Any ideas?
-
Yes, it's definitely a "thing" with less tech-savvy users.
It seems most common among my mom's generation - 60+ years old and not terribly familiar with technology.

Hi Spencer,
As others said, as an IT guy I see so many people just go to Google and type a url then click whatever it gives them. I've even seen people go to Google and type Yahoo.com shake head

Like EGOL and Dirk say, this is a pretty common behavior now especially with so many browsers featuring a search from the URL Address bar feature. I sometimes wonder if it's not also due to Google's handling of (not provided) and their move towards masking more search terms.
One question, are these top keywords the same in Google Webmaster Tools for your dad's site, or are you looking at just analytics? I'd give GWT a try as it usually shows a lot more in the keyword department.

I agree. I am old enough to do this.

I see this a lot on our sites which are targeting a more senior audience (60+). Some of them have little experience with internet and some of them just seem to be unaware of the fact that you can put an url in the address bar. Their only way to navigate the internet goes through google (or bing) which in most cases is the default page in their browser.
Based on this article http://www.wsj.com/articles/uneasy-rider-boomer-deaths-in-motorcycle-crashes-jump-1419210199 I guess they make a big part of your father's audience...

I get a lot of full URLs as keywords.
I think that people copy / paste them into the search box, or just type them because they are simple

Dynamic URL parameter generator
Hi Is any one privy to an online tool that will let me create a dynamic URL parameter string but will allow me to generate multiples of the URL and add a distinct key for each one. E.g Campaign Source, Medium, Name, a Keywords etc. are all the same in the string but then I want to generate a unique id code at the end. Then export them as a csv and integrate into my database lists. Looking to run this into a few thousand as well. I was going to just do this in Excel and combine two columns withe the string and the number count in the other column but if there is a tool that does it all that would be interesting to know.

How to detect where Google gets indexed URL's
Google index some kind of way some links that create duplicate content. We doesn't understand how these are created so we would like detect where Google robots find these links. We tried: Moz Crawl Diagnostics but it shows 0 as Internal Link Count for these kind of links. Find some information from Google Analytics, that maybe there is trace (site content - all content) from visitors side. There wan't. We tried to find some information in Webmaster Tools under Internal link and HTML Improvements but didn't find any trace. Tried some search commands. Is there maybe some good one to search. TO search URL's form code with https://search.nerdydata.com.

What is this GA URL I keep seeing?
According to google analytics, most of my traffic goes to two URLs: "/site/kempruge" and "/" now, I'm pretty sure both of these are taking people to my homepage, but I do not understand the "/site/kempruge' one at all. When I type www.kempruge.com/site/kemprure it 404's, so I'm not sure what URL it even is? Also, I'm wondering if this url is hurting my website in some way? I attached the screenshots, but they didn't load properly. I'll try to add another one in the replies. Thanks! Ruben [](<a href=)" target="_blank">a>

Results for wrong keyword
I've started to look at ranking and visitor behaviour within a specific product category and I've come across this strange data in GA that i'm struggling to get my head around. keyword - wishbone necklace gold landing - ...necklace-dive-in.html bounce - 99.31% new visits - 0.00% The landing page is not anywhere in the results for the given keyword (nor does the keyword appear anywhere within the page). The data is spread out to date since Dec 2011 and the landing page accounts for about 97% of the traffic for that keyword. I then looked at browser which is 95% Safari (different versions) and breaking that down into City about 30% is (not set), 30% a single city and then there is a spread of locations. It might be fair to assume that therefore 60% could be the same location but there is still 40% to take into consideration. What I can't get my head around is how the landing page is being accessed so regularly for the wrong keyword. The correctly ranking URL only accounts for 5% of the traffic which is more in line with the estimated search volumes for that keyword. I've checked versions of the page going back and none contain the keyword. Am I missing something, or any ideas how to fix?

Will GA Tell Me How Often Audio Samples Are Listened To?
We have 1000s of audio book samples for visitors to listen to as part of their buying decision. Will Google Analytics tell me how often and what specific audio files have been listened to?

Images Getting Indexed Making for Low Engagements Times in GA
I have quite a few images that are being indexed for popular search terms and are getting clicks. This site has a 0-10 second engagement of 69%. I would like to eliminate these images from the equation because I tend to think they are hurting my "quality score" in organic Google rankings. How do you keep these images from ranking? I suppose I could rename them. Should I disallow the images folder? I hate to do that, because some of my images turn up in local searches, which is good. I would rather keep those. But what is best practice? A little background info, this is a local service site. So the images that are ranking are coming up for a broad national type search. This has 0 value for the site. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks! Kathy

What is the SEO Impact of Adding a Directory to URL
I would like to add a new directory named “products” for all of the product detail pages on my site. Instead of having the URL for a product be “mysite.com/product-details-page.aspx” we would like to change it to “mysite.com.com/products/product-detail-page.aspx.” I want to do this to enable us to add product pages to our traffic funnel analysis by filtering visits to the "product" directory - right now we can't track visits to product pages in the funnel because they are just one-off the main site. I know this change will require redirects for every single product. Is there anything else that needs to be done? My main question is, will this change negatively impact the SEO value of the product pages? We have several product pages ranking in the SERPs, and I don't know if pushing them one directory further will change that. Thanks for your input!

Any updates regarding 'not provided' organic keyword referrals in Google Analytics?
I know that the encrypted searches done by people logged into their Google accounts is causing the error, is there any workaround or any update from Google as to IF they will give us our keyword data back? I'm currently losing data on about 20% of my daily searches . . .
