Choosing a video hoster for a website
-
Hi guys,
I would love to hear your opinion about which video hoster is recommendable for embedding videos on a website and why?
So far, I can't decide between Youtube, Vimeo and Wistia.
Youtube: + large community, snippets in Google - advertisements
Vimeo: + appealing look - small audience
Wistia: + easy to customize, statistics - no community, no snippets in Google
Thanks in advance for any input!

Hi there
While I definitely agree with Aaron, there are a couple of things here you should note.
Here's why I like Wistia:
-
Wistia hosts video on their server for you
-
Highly customizeable + calls to action (source)
-
Great analytics (source)
-
Video sitemap + snippet creation (here is there SEO section)
-
This handles your snippet creation in Google and other search engines
-
Integration and API capabilities
-
Fun fact: Rand + Moz use Wistia for their Whiteboard Friday
Here's why, coupled with Wistia, you still need to add video(s) to YouTube:
- The search stats for YouTube are insane (source + 2014 source)
- Actionable optimization opportunities (YouTube Optimization)
- Linking your Google+ opens more branding opportunities (source)
- Awesome advertising opportunities (source)
Now, I know you want to choose one or the other, but honestly, I would use both. One (Wistia) is great from a branding and customization standpoint with opportunities for lead generation and SEO value. The other (YouTube) is one of the most used sites on the internet with community, branding, and more optimization opportunities. You're going to see opportunities from both, and both allow you to claim ownership of the content.
So, that's my answer - take the great customization capabilities of Wistia and take advantage of amazing community search statistics in YouTube. You're going to benefit from both.
Hope this helps! Good luck to you!

One of the major value adds with Wistia is the analytics and customization. I think they look really nice and you have a lot more control over the details.
Youtube, is obviously about the reach, simple sharing, etc.
It makes a difference what the goal of the video is.
And depending on that, I am not necessarily sure I would worry about the snippit showing up. Google has seemed more biased towards that lately.

YouTube Video Transcript misinterpreting audio as a swear word and putting in transcript
Hi I've just noticed a video uploaded to a clients youtube channel is misinterpreting a spoken word as a swear word, the F word :), will this have negative connotations ? could it result in video being considered 'adult content' ?? Any idea how to get this changed, should i report/flag it or will that likely make matters worse ? Or YT tech support email (chance would be a fine thing) ? Also how do you set a video as the channel trailer ? (i cant find any option to do this) Cheers Dan

YouTube Video Transcription
Hello there! I'm wondering if there is any legalities involved with transcribing a video on YouTube and posting the transcription on a site that does not have the rights to the video while sourcing the video and giving credit.

How to build links with really good S3 hosted video using JW Player
I have a number of really good quality videos that are embedded on my own site. Many are "how to" or "what to do if" type video guides with questions answered by experts. They were professionally shot. So that I could reap the full SEO benefit from the videos, I have them hosted via Amazon S3 and am using an embedded JW Player. We have a video sitemap and, as a result, most of the videos have already been indexed by Google and are showing up in Google video search as residing on our webpage. Now the real problem is how to get some link benefit from them. They should be viable and valuable link bait. My initial thought was to do a PR Web type press release with the video embedded in it. The problem with that is that you are limited to Youtube and Vimeo embedded video which defeats that purpose entirely. PR Newswire has different issues but the end result is the same, I can't embed those videos with them either. As far as I can tell, all I could do with a press release would be to link to the videos. Moreover, I don't even know that press releases would be that valuable in the post penguin world but the hope was that people would share the videos naturally. So, I put it to the experts. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get some link benefit from these videos? Any ideas at all? I am stumped. Any advice would be appreciated.

Video SEO - Youtube vs. 3rd party hosting with Video Sitemap
We need some feedback on the best place to upload videos. Should we be uploading our videos everywhere (YouTube, Metacafe, Vimeo, etc.)? Note: Currently we are using a 3rd party video video hosting solution called Treepodia. Previously we used Wistia. Both host our videos, and submit a Video Sitemap through Webmaster tools. When one of these videos shows up in search results and somebody clicks on it, they are directed back to our website. Are we competing against ourselves if we upload videos to other networks like Youtube, etc. if we are already submitting a Video Sitemap through a 3rd party? I've noticed we rank higher in Google Videos search for our Youtube videos vs. our 3rd party hosted videos. Also, how do Youtube video views tie into this situation... we used to embed videos via Youtube embed code. Now we seem to be missing out on the extra views we were getting by doing so. Ultimate question: host videos through a 3rd party and submit a video sitemap OR host videos on Youtube and embed on our website?
