Unique Pages with Thin Content vs. One Page with Lots of Content
-
Is there anyone who can give me a definitive answer on which of the following situations is preferable from an SEO standpoint for the services section of a website?
1. Many unique and targeted service pages with the primary keyword in the URL, Title tag and H1 - but with the tradeoff of having thin content on the page (i.e. 100 words of content or less).
2. One large service page listing all services in the content. Primary keyword for URL, title tag and H1 would be something like "(company name) services" and each service would be in the H2 title. In this case, there is lots of content on the page.
Yes, the ideal situation would be to beef up content for each unique pages, but we have found that this isn't always an option based on the amount of time a client has dedicated to a project.

I completely agree with Bryan on this one on all counts.
As for how you go about structuring this content process, it really depends on just how limited your time is. If you go through each landing page and write a sufficient amount of content (my recommendation is always 1500+ words per primary landing page), is it going to take you weeks to get this done or are we talking more like 6 months?
Also, don't neglect the user experience in your planning process. If the vast majority of your users are arriving on the site looking for one particular thing, make sure they're going to land on a page rich in value; don't just give it an arbitrary 100 words to stave off the search engine Gods and move on!

Not to sound cheeky, but neither is preferable. The solution with lots of thin content means you have a lot of pages that hold little to no use to a user, while also putting you at risk for, well, thin content. The solution that keeps all of this content on one page means that your page is poorly targeted (especially bad since this is a service page), that the content will be difficult to digest for users, and that you have no real options for navigation to a specific service.
Since it's clear you know you're in a "lesser of two evils" situation; my recommendation would be to go with the approach of having many pages. You can at least target these pages better, and it leaves you open to adding more content later on. However, this option is a bigger risk : bigger reward. You might get penalized for thin content. But if time is the absolute in this circumstance, I think that relatively thin pages may be more manageable.
As an amendment, might I recommend adding a couple of universal content sections? Meaning, within these thin pages, along with the 100~ words of good, unique content, having a content section that's the same throughout each, so that you have more content on these pages without sacrificing as much time. Something like links to relevant blog articles, customer testimonials, or a personable explanation of the company's methodology regarding the delivery of services.

How can I make sure pages with similar content don't damage the other's SEO?
I work for a travel company and I have a 'tour page' targeted for pre-booking and a 'booking pack page' post-booking page, with some similar content but with details such as hostel locations, meeting places and times etc. I want to make sure the tour page keeps the authority as this is what I want to rank on SEO. I've got a couple of similar problems to this across site, there are a few pages on site that are post-sale and don't really need to rank on Google but it would be great if they could contribute to other pages' rankings. Thanks!

Does a JS script who scroll automaticaly into pages could make some content "hidden" ?
Hello everybody, Sorry for my english (I'm French), I will try to do my best... We've got an e-commerce website : kumulusvape.fr
On-Page Optimization | | KumulusVape
On each categories, to improve our conversion rate, we put a javascript to automaticaly scroll into the page to the product list. You can see an example here : http://www.kumulusvape.fr/44-e-liquide-savourea-smookies This script scroll and make some content "hidden".
It's not really a scroll, just changing page position. Do you think that our h1 and our category content could be consider "hidden" by Google ? Thank you very much for your help0 -
Inventory Pages that are Sold, 404 vs 301?
I am working with a company that sells high-priced automobiles. Each Unit has its own URL We currently leave most sold inventory live on the site as it draws in many leads (the units are visually shown as sold, so it shouldn't be a UX issue in most cases). We are wanting to start pruning some old units (this is in WordPress - custom post type) and I'm not quite sure what the best solution for this site is with removed units. Some ideas: Remove the units pages that are no longer needed, resulting in any links 404'ing to a useful 404 page. Remove the units pages, and 301 them to the Homepage (I don't really want to do this, as it seems like really poor UX) Remove the units page, and 301 the user to a specific "This item has sold" page that is shared by all sold units, but may not be the sites full 404. another option I haven't thought of? I dont' want to do anything that would confuse or get search engines upset, and I'm not sure how bad 404's are, I see some info on how bad they are, some that say they aren't bad. I'm guessing it is as usual, some gray area in the middle.

Duplicate page content
Hi Crawl errors is showing 2 pages of duplicate content for my clients WordPress site: /news/ & /category/featured/ Yoast is installed so how best to resolve this ? i see that both pages are canonicalised to themselves so presume just need to change the canonical tag on /category/featured/ to reference /news/ ?(since news is the page with higher authority and the main page for showing this info) or is there other way in Yoast or WP to deal with this & prevent from happening again ? Cheers Dan

When it comes to duplicate page content how do I deal with correcting it. Its a dynamic e commerce site.
I am under the impression that with ecommerce sites this happens often and that there's a plug in or just simply not worry about it since queries will often find similar conent.

Should I use bolded keywords for keywords in the content throughout the page?
If I'm trying to optimize for a specific keyword, should I bold all of the keywords that appear in the content of the page or just one or two? or none at all?

Moving Top rank Page urls off my Home page and nesting them on one page? Good idea?
I am basically trying to cut down the amount of links on my home page to make it less eye boggling and move stuff around. So i have of my Urls on my home page that lead to pages that rank very well within google. My questions is can i remove those urls to a separate page to group them together and then showcase that one link to that page on my home page. Is that a good idea or i am going to loose my link juice and position in search? The physical urls on those pages wont change at all.

Duplicate Product BUT Unique Content -- any issues?
We have the situation where a group of products fit into 2 different categories and also serve different purposes (to the customer). Essentially, we want to have the same product duplicated on the site, but with unique content and it would even have a slightly different product name. Some specifications would be redundant, but the core content would be different. Any issues?
