Page 1 Rankings, but not increase in traffic, contact form requests or calls
-
I am very frustrated. I have achieved page one rankings on Google, Bing and Yahoo for highly relevant keywords and phrases. The keywords I am ranking on page one for are the same ones competitors are targeting and working well for them. I am interested in any feedback as to what could possibly be the cause for not receiving much traffic? I mean I am getting page 1, everyone I talk to says the sites are beautiful....Very confused. Now in the various keyword tools the do show that the various keywords receive anywhere from 25-250 searches per month, but those tools i find highly innacurate when performing a local campaign...oh yeah, these are all local campaigns i am talking about. Do I need to pursue paid marketing, PPC, or something. I always thought organic rankings were the way to go. Also, unfortunatly i am not able to divulge the URLs or concern due to client confidentiality issues. Thank you very much in advance for any insight:) I will send the URL's privately to anyone that is willing to take a look at things

Thanks everybody for all the great feedback. You guys rock!

Long tail keywords on next level sub pages may have a big influence. Also work on optimizing conversions. Page one is okay but #1 and #2 are huge for traffic and #3 is okay. 4-6 not that great.

It may be that the keyword tools you are using aren't accurate enough to be relied upon - I see this happen a lot with location based terms.
If you're using the Google AdWords keyword tool, have you ensured that 'exact' is selected for the match type and not the defualt 'broad' (that's caught me out in the past when I've forgotten to change it).
Aside from that, you could run a small-scale PPC campaign, allow it to run for a few weeks and then look the search terms report to see what variants of your terms people are searching for, then target them oragnically. PPC and SEO can work really well together too - there is always something to be learnt from either side.

If the traffic itself has not increased since you've reached page 1, then it's likely to be a matter concerning search volume and SERP positioning.
Now, if we take one of your keywords and say it's 250 searches per month - what sort of traffic can you expect from page 1? Well, it can be a wide range. A combination of this case study and this case study shows that even if you rank on page 1, people in position 5 may only get between 4-15% of the click through rate. Even at the top estimate, that would mean an increase of roughly 37 extra clicks and visitors per month. I have no idea what your industry is, but even a very high conversion rate would struggle to show any significant increase in conversions there.
Then there's the whole matter of local search. As you'll know doubt be aware, an increasing amount of local search terms start to list Google Map/Local listings above the fold, of which there could be up to 8-10 listings. This could affect click-through rate even further.
I feel for you because in many ways local campaigns are even tougher than national ones. If you still don't see any marked improvements in your traffic and conversions, I'd start keyword research again and look at some other product related terms. When doing this, however, I would Google the search term itself and see what the SERPs look like - is there a lot of PPC competition for the term? Are there Google+ listings? A lack of PPC competition might open up an opportunity there, while no Google map listings would probably mean a higher click-through rate for getting on page 1 (and perhaps an opportunity to get your company listed there yourself).
Hope this helps in some way, might not be exactly what you want to hear, but hopefully provides you with a decent point of view.

Usability can play a big part in any site design, as can the page title and description for drawing people in.
However, if you wish to e-mail me, I would be more than happy to cast an eye over this for you. info@inetseo.co.uk

You are saying that your number 1 position doesn't lead to a lot of traffic. This can be because there simply aren't that many people searches for those keywords (25 - 250 a month isn't much) and/or that for some reason people don't click on your site. This last thing is something you can have quite some influence on. Have a good look at how your site shows up on the SERP and make sure both the title and description are optimised for this keyword and that they ensure the users that your site will provide what they are looking for. Maybe try some USPs in the description text.
Since you don't really have an influence on the search volumes, you might want to look into targeting broader keyword to get more impressions on the SERPs and then apply the same trick as described above.
Good luck.

In Google SERPs some companies / government agencies have a Google-generated card for their organization and it references their Wikipedia page. It does not show for all companies /orgs that have a Wikipedia page. What is the criteria to have it shown?
Does Google have specific criteria to show a large card in the top right of SERPs that links to a national organization's Wikipedia-referenced info? These do not appear to be the Google Business Card created by individual organizations. Example having the card and org is on wikipedia: https://www.google.com/?ion=1&espv=2#q=u.s. department of labor Example no card shown and org is on wikipedia: https://www.google.com/?ion=1&espv=2#q=Occupational+Information+network

Switch to naked domain that has higher page authority
Brilliant Moz community! I just started here and find it so helpful and am confident that I can get an answer to this. Our domain is currently https://www.example.com. I have been wanting to move to https://example.com just for a cleaner URL. To my surprise, https://example.com has the same DA but a significantly higher page authority than our current https://www.example.com. Of course my immediate reaction is to 301 to the https://example.com but I wanted to get some advice and anything we should consider before doing this. My other question would be - how is this possible? I don't remember that we ever used that domain but we also had some rather bad developers a couple of years back. Thank you so much in advance!

Getting Google Plus Page to Appear
I've recently been making changes and updates to my company's verified local Google + page--my question is when and/or how do I configure it to appear in the search results? When I type my business into Google (Exchange Capital Management), it's not even within the results displayed. The page isn't accessible unless someone were to Google "Exchange Capital Management Google Plus." As mentioned, the page has been verified, updated, and has about 8,000+ views. Any advice or feedback is appreciated! All best, Lauren McLaughlin

Using keywords instead of brand name on G+ to rank for local terms.
I noticed something this morning, when performing a search on Google UK for "Intensive driving courses southend" the first position is awarded to a driving school that is using exact match keywords instead of brand name on their G+ page to rank for local terms. See this for yourself here: https://www.google.co.uk/#q=intensive+driving+courses+southend Until then, my site had held position 1 for this term for well over a year. Every gut instinct I have tells me that this will not work forever and its not something I should implement, however I'm interested to hear if anyone else is using this tactic, and how its working for them? How can I compete with this "grey hat" tactic?

1 Website, 2 Business Names, 2 Locations
I took on a dentist office as an SEO client. They have 1 website, 2 business names and 2 locations. Each location has it's own business name. They are both within the same city as well. I'm not exactly sure where to start with them since they have 2 different business names. If it were 1 name with multiple locations I would just create a Contact Us page for each one, but is that the best thing to do when the location names are different? Should I create a different website for each location or is that smart because then they are competing against each other? Any help from the community on the direction I should take would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Why has Google started to re-write my page titles?
Since earlier this week I've noticed that Google has started to re-write several of our page titles and I'm not entirely sure why - does anyone have any info? We are a UK business and currently have top spot for the keyword 'toilet cubicles' - however, our index.html page title has changed as follows: FROM: Toilet Cubicles | WC Panel Systems for Washrooms | Cubicle Centre TO: Cubicle Centre: Toilet Cubicles | WC Panel Systems for Washrooms Is this Google favouring a more brand-led approach to search? Be interesting to hear everyone's thoughts... Cheers, Craig.

Drop In Rankings / Traffic... Can you find any technical issues with my site?
I haven't spammed the engines, if anything I haven't done enough link building. So let me start here: I split my old domain www.STbands.com into two separate domains - www.Suddora.com and www.CustomOnIt.com . The main site now goes to Custom On It and each page directly 301 as it was relevant. I knew there was going to be a little blow back... The first month went fairly well but last week we noticed a dip in organic search traffic and sure enough some of our main keywords are now suffering. I am wondering if this is because we haven't been building enough links to the new domains or if our new eCommerce CMS (magento enterprise) has technical SEO issues that is giving Google trouble. Nothing on GWT looks terribly wrong, should i be searching for something specific? Anything helps at this point, we are in dire need of some direction on what could be wrong. Any suggestions?

Does a +1 or Share appear in SERPs site-wide, or only for the page that is specifically shared?
Take the example Danny Sullivan posted: http://searchengineland.com/how-being-friends-on-google-leads-to-better-rankings-87376 In this case, Ford shared www.ford.com, and its friends and followers see that in the SERPs. Hoever, how does that compare with, say, sharing http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/? Does the entire domain reap the benefit, or just that page? Would people see a "Ford shared this" beneath a search result pointing to ford.com (the home page), even if Ford had only shared this specific interior page? Or is it too soon to know for sure how this is all going to work?
