After 301 redirection non-English keyword points to English language pages
-
We had multilingual website on .co.uk domain and somewhere in April, we've done 301 redirection from domain1.co.uk pages which were in Polish language to domain2.com/pl domain and now for some Polish keywords Google SERP sometimes shows English pages (.com) and sometimes polish pages (.com/pl). Previously co.uk/en had English content and that got redirected to .com. What could be the reason?
Thank you for all responses.

Hi,
So the situation looks like this
-
website domain1.co.uk in not regional - it's in only for UK but had multiple languages
-
polish language pages on domain1.co.uk website were redirected (301 redirect) to domain2.com but with /pl "bit" so: domain1.co.uk/page1 > domain2.com/pl/page1 and domain1.co.uk/page2 > domain2.com/pl/page2
-
when user in UK look for Polish keywords, for some the keywords, the result is correct (it shows domain2.com/pl/page2) and for some Polish keywords user in UK got served domain2.com/page2. Please notice that in both cases is the same location and different polish keywords.
-
pages on both sites was mostly "mirrored" which means article in Polish had English equivalent, so even when Polish user gets to English page, it's still relevant, thus increasing bounce rate as user don't necessary have to understand it.
Would you need more info to get clearer picture of the situation?
Thank you.

What you need to know is whether it was regional and multilingual at the same time. Many multilingual sites still do use regional redirects for their different site sections
-
Hi,
Sorry if I haven't been clear. Our website wasn't regional but multilingual and it was just for one country. The problem was related to users living in UK and wanted to receive Polish pages rather than English.
-
Absolutely not (sorry); I mean exempting the Googlebot user-agent from your redirects - which will involve re-writing the flexible redirect rules that handle the regional 301s. It has nothing to do with no-follows or any other 'normal' SEO stuff, you will need a developer
-
Thanks for an answer. By "exempt Googlebot from them" do you mean setting up nofollow attribute or something else?
-
If you have regional redirects in place (e.g: detect when users are from UK vs from PL, and then redirect incorrect queries to the right site) - then you may have failed to exempt Googlebot (user-agent) from those regional redirects
Google crawls from one data centre (location) at a time. If Google follows a link on a cached version of your old site to PL content and then regional redirects intercept Googlebot and 'incorrect' the crawl path, you can get stuff like this happening
Although regional redirects are often needed for users, it's best to exempt Googlebot from them so it doesn't get bounced around thus gaining an incomplete view of the site

Is it a good practice to reduce number of redirections (301) after a period of time?
Is it good to use disavow tool and get rid of old URLs i.e. links for pages and posts which we have deleted from our website and added 301 on them?

To redirect or not to redirect...That is the question
We have old product data that is being updated (approx 30k sku's). Most of the old pages have been indexed and drive the majority of our online sales. But, the updated products have different titles, H1's, etc and have been re-formatted for the better in terms of usability. So, should we redirect thousands of pages to the new pages? Will Google be ok with that?...or should we reformat the current url's with the new data? And, if we reformat current url's with new data...the fear is that the on-page elements that the pages are being pick up for will get wiped out, (be it the H1 in some cases or the title or alt tag for another, etc) because it's simply too much to retain them during the import. Description tag not showing in the SERPs because page is blocked by Robots, but the page isn't blocked. Any help?
While checking some SERP results for a few pages of a site this morning I noticed that some pages were returning this message instead of a description tag, A description for this result is not avaliable because of this site's robot.s.txt The odd thing is the page isn't blocked in the Robots.txt. The page is using Yoast SEO Plugin to populate meta data though. Anyone else had this happen and have a fix?

Www to non www redirect
HI there, I was worried that my folder was not being crawled as when I searched for site:www.thekeepsakeco.co.uk/marketplace nothing came up but today I tried site:thekeepsakeco.co.uk/marketplace it does. So it is forwarding the www to the non www. When I do a search on links or analyse the domain it says there is a forwarder in place. My site used to dominate in my niche and now is not doing very well since I moved to the new site. I know I did not handle the move well but wonder what I can do about it and wonder if this redirect is causing issues. So any link building it probably going to www. rather than non www so does that mean they are not counting. What would you do? move everything back to www and could I do a 301 redirect for the whole folder? Any help greatly received! Kindest regards Victoria Thanks Victoria

Where should breadcrumbs point
Hi, On the single product page I such breadcrumbs structure: Home > Women's Shoes > Sandals > Nike > The Name of Shoe Where should the "Nike" part point? To the main "Nike" brand page? Or to the "Women's Nike Sandals" page? At first glance the second variant is more logical, any reason why Zappos links to the main brand page, e.g.: http://www.zappos.com/hudson-amber-raw-edge-hem-short-in-indie-indie ? I'd be very grateful if someone experienced with this stuff will explain. Thank you!

Avoiding "Duplicate Page Title" and "Duplicate Page Content" - Best Practices?
We have a website with a searchable database of recipes. You can search the database using an online form with dropdown options for: Course (starter, main, salad, etc)
On-Page Optimization | | smaavie
Cooking Method (fry, bake, boil, steam, etc)
Preparation Time (Under 30 min, 30min to 1 hour, Over 1 hour) Here are some examples of how URLs may look when searching for a recipe: find-a-recipe.php?course=starter
find-a-recipe.php?course=main&preperation-time=30min+to+1+hour
find-a-recipe.php?cooking-method=fry&preperation-time=over+1+hour There is also pagination of search results, so the URL could also have the variable "start", e.g. find-a-recipe.php?course=salad&start=30 There can be any combination of these variables, meaning there are hundreds of possible search results URL variations. This all works well on the site, however it gives multiple "Duplicate Page Title" and "Duplicate Page Content" errors when crawled by SEOmoz. I've seached online and found several possible solutions for this, such as: Setting canonical tag Adding these URL variables to Google Webmasters to tell Google to ignore them Change the Title tag in the head dynamically based on what URL variables are present However I am not sure which of these would be best. As far as I can tell the canonical tag should be used when you have the same page available at two seperate URLs, but this isn't the case here as the search results are always different. Adding these URL variables to Google webmasters won't fix the problem in other search engines, and will presumably continue to get these errors in our SEOmoz crawl reports. Changing the title tag each time can lead to very long title tags, and it doesn't address the problem of duplicate page content. I had hoped there would be a standard solution for problems like this, as I imagine others will have come across this before, but I cannot find the ideal solution. Any help would be much appreciated. Kind Regards5
