IP address changed, subdomains added - how will affect?
-
Hello,
Two weeks ago we have changed IP address of our website, also we've added new subdomains for static content (like img.domain.com & js.domain.com) and changed the links on the site accordingly.
The old IP is also working and the old links are accessible too.
For some reason, since the change, we see a SE (google) traffic constant drop everyday.
I've read only Google's support (http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=34437)
that such change shouldn't affect the ranking anyhow. On the other hand I've consulted with SEO people and was told that such change may affect in the close new feature (for couple of weeks) and then bring the ranking back.
I would like to hear another opinion, I want to get back to our board with approved answers.
Please advice.
Thanks.

The links are not related to your IP, but to the URL. If images are available on both img.domain and www.domain, then you have a duplication issue. Best practice is to 301 redirect from the old to the new URL to give a clear indication of the unique location they are on.

The old IP and the new IP are working.
Yes we changed DNS.
And also as I said the old links are working and the new links also working, because they're relatively on the same please, so:
img.domain.com/image.jpg = www.domain.com/image.jpg
So in case Google is trying to access the old links, they are working too. Same for the old IP.

Indeed, an IP change shouldn't have any impact. What do you mean by "the old IP are still accessible"? You routed the DNS to the new IP, right?
A possible reason I might see is that you may have changed your images to a new subdomain - img.domain.com). Did you redirect from where the old images were placed? If not, this might explain for part of the traffic drop since the new images have to be re-indexed.

Clicks, impressions, CTR, & position decreased after adding meta descriptions
A website that I was working on did not have meta descriptions, had poorly optimized meta titles, and URL structure. I created optimized descriptions and titles for each page. I also updated the URL structure of select pages and created 301 redirects. Since I did this I noticed that my clicks, impressions, CTR, and position all decreased on Google Search Console (I just setup Search Console so I only have 1-week of data). Traffic on Google Analytics is about the same. Is this normal?

GA: How do I preserve custom dimension across domain and subdomain?
Using custom dimensions our site tracks logged-in vs not logged-in users on our shop site (shop.example.com). A user can only login on the shop.example.com. The problem is when the logged in user visits our the main domain (example.com), we lose the custom dimension and the user becomes anonymous. At this point, if the user goes back to shop.example.com, the logged-in custom dimension comes back. How do I preserve the logged-in user dimension across the main domain? Example of snippet:

Adding UTM Tags to business directories?
Hi, I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on adding UTM tags to your business directories such as google my business, yelp, yellow pages ect. Would it be beneficial in sorting the data in GA? That way I can easily see which directories are performing the best. Thanks!

E-commerce with domain and subdomain for products
Hi, I have two pages: (main) page with a lot of traffic e.g. www.bags.com/yellow-bag-hp, and I have second subdomain e.g. www.shop.bags.com/yellow-bag-hp . This two domain has different CMS systems. Sites from main page have higher DA and PA and I can’t delete it, and I also can’t delete sites from a subdomain (shop) because this other CMS for eCommerce. What do you recommend for resolve this situation. Maybe create new URL: www.bags.com/shop and put on it all products, e.g.: www.bags.com/shop/yellow-bag-hp, and redirect all old pages to this one, or something else?

Does GWT "Fetch as Google Bot" feature affect crawl rate?
Hello Mozians, I have noticed many people saying using GWT fetch as GoogleBot can affect your crawl rate in future, if used regularly. Though, i am not very sure if this is true or just another stale SEO myth. As currently GWT provides a limit of 500 URLs to fetch every month. I hope my doubts will be cleared by the Moz community experts. Thanks!

Adding More Brand Rules
I'd really love if SEOMoz would let us add more than 10 brand rules. In GA, I've set up approximately 25 Advanced Segment Keyword Exclusions (using Regular Expressions) in order to filter out all the mispelled branded keywords sending us traffic. It's just a shame I can't do the same in SEOMoz, which essentially renders the branded/non-branded feature useless for me. Any suggestions?

Do Google Analytics filters affect link building?
We recently made a few link wheels for specific product pages. We've been having great results with all of the wheels except for one. The one we are having issues with is the only link that we were using a Google Analytics filter on; it looks like this http://domain.com/page.htm?zSource=Specific Keyword%tracking My question is does Google ignore links that are obviously utilizing their analyitcs custom filters? We're doing some more testing to try to find out if it truly is the link or if the wheel is a bad one. There are so many things that could go wrong but with so many of our link wheels working well, I wonder if the filters are what is causing such results.

Is IP tracking of visitor allowed?
Hi, Google Analytics does not provide IP addresss of the visitors. What if i develop some in-house tracking mechanism to do so? Is it allowed or will Google penalize me if it comes to know about it? Thanks
