Site penalized by google

I noticed for a while that our competitors don't rank for any keywords organically and they are using paid ads to gain traffic. They have been in the industry for over 6 years and we are only new and have ranked above them already. How can we find out if a competitor has been penalized?

If they're received a sitewide manual penalty and have been deindexed, then you should see no results when you Google, "site:theirdomain.com".
But, more likely, if they're struggling to rank it's because of an algorithmic issue. You could try looking at their data on SEMrush.com and seeing if there is a drop that coincides the date of a known algorithm change as seen on http://moz.com/google-algorithm-change.
Ultimately though it's just a guess.

There is no way to check if a competitor is being penalized for sure. The only way is if you have access to the google webmaster tools for that site. Sorry to break the bad news to you lol

How to track in Google Analytics 2 different subdomains (one for website, the other for PPC landing pages)
Hello Mozers! I have a website with organic visits/goals on www.site.com and a few AdWords Campaign landing pages on lp.site.com whose goals are tracked with both adwords conversion monitoring AND analytics (not imported from analytics into Adword). The landing pages of the campaign have nothing to do with the web site (different cms, they don't link each other, totally isolated) and viceversa. Given that, what would it be the best practice to configure Google Analytics to track the website (www.site.com) AND a PPC campagin (lp.site.com)? Best way to automize generation of google ads - API, scripts etc.
I am in the process of setting up a fresh adwords account for a recently launched ecommerce site with about 3000 products and would like to automize the generation of the ads based on a spreadsheet of our product database. I would like to have full control over the code to generate these ads and a programmer with knowledge in SOAP and javscript would be availlable to assist in implementation. Any recommendations? Would you use adwords API or rather adword scripts?

Google Remarketing Targeting
I've been thinking lately about employing re-marketing in AdWords, and have been doing some research on it. My findings keep pointing to the fact that you can't target only people who visited your site but didn't convert. I keep thinking this cannot be true because it's simply too ludicrous to be. Why else would you want to use re-marketing? Can someone please either confirm or deny this? Thanks

Do UTM Parameters reflect in Google Analytics
Hi, We have recently enabled auto tagging in our URLs but not sure if tagging is working correctly. Does Google Analytics shows the utm parameters also in URLs in Google Analytics OR Google shows only the base url (after removing utm parameters) in Analytics. For example: Will http://www.abc.com/?utm_source=Indiaweb&utm_medium=Display&utm_campaign=CPC&utm_content=NRI_newprojects&utm_term=US be shown as is in Google Analytics under PAID Tab or only http://www.abc.com/ will be shown and the utm parameters will be removed in Analytics if auto tagging is enabled. Enhanced Sitelinks for Large Ecommerce Sites
We're about to set up enhanced sitelinks for our main site but I'm not sure about the best way to do this given the duplicate URL rule. Ex. we have a campaign for X category of products. X category has 13 subcategories and each subcategory has 4 ad groups. So in total, campaign X category has 52 ad groups in it. We planned to do a sitelink for every ad group, so 52 for this X category of products. But the duplicate URL rule makes this difficult considering how many will be in a single campaign. Making them links to related subcategories isn't possible as we'd run into duplicates really fast. Same with About Us, Contact Us, etc. What's the best way of approaching this?

Why you should never use Google Adwords To Conduct Key Word Research
Buongiorno from 22 degrees C too damn humid Wetherby UK, The other day a client wanted to know how much a ppc campaign would cost with a specific bank of keywords. So off i went and loaded in the key words and set the ads thinking it was not live.... A week later i get a tap on the shoulder asking why weve been invoiced for £xxxx oh dio mio!! The damn campaign went to live. So ive got two questions: 1. Do Google adwords automatically go to Live once youve loaded up phrases and ads, i really thought it would have made it more obvious, A " Would you like your campaign to go live" prompt would have been appreciated. 2. As a safety measure is configuring a Google Alert in Analytics to ping when paid traffic is picked up not a bad idea just so ive got a warning sytem set up so to speak. Grazie tanto,

In Google Adwords, can I create negative dollar-amount keywords?
example of negative keywords: -$40 driving lessons -35 dollar driving lessons The driving lessons I'm selling are $55 an hour, so I obviously don't want unqualified leads chewing through my budget when they clearly don't want to spend $55 on a lesson. I already have the price mentioned in my ads, but I want to negative out the dollar amounts because people are still stupid enough to click without reading the ad. Any help will be appreciated! Matt
