Where would you advice getting your links?
Blog comments look like spam if your keyword is in the name field and I'm sure google will crack down on this. Emailing webmasters will cost a hell of a lot if you want a lot of links. Directorys are low quality and irelevant! Where does this leave us in terms of getting links?
-
For Google to truly devalue links, they would have to have something better to determine the value of web sites and social media just isn't there yet as an all inclusive voting system for web sites.
-
There was the JC Penney incident a few weeks back that made for a major shift in how Google devalues some links. All Matt Cutts would say is that they had already been working on it and the JCP thing just brought it up sooner rather than later.
Is this a new trend in SEO? Nope. Google still likes quality links and still tries their hardest to remove low quality ones that artificially drive up results.

On the contrary, I think Google cares about links even more. They just added more weight to the quality of the sources and the link juice they pass. Be very diligent when choosing who to get your backlinks from. Do your research with all the outstanding tools here on SEOMOZ and be consistent about building your link profile and you'll do wonderful and have fun as well.
The Panda Update is evidence of this. Google has to care because it affects their bottom line. Other things to watch out for are Social graph metrics influencing SERPS.

Couldn't disagree more; however, WHERE the links are coming from definitely has had an effect.

Product review based on sales data - How much should we link out?
Hello, We're doing a product review series based on sales data. How much should we link out? Consumersearch is the number one position with full sources for "best X product" Consumersearch has flaws it looks like. The data reads correct but the products they are promoting are not the best based on our own customer service informal interviews. Was wondering if we should include all data in the field including competitors and display our sources, or if we should just list in-house data. Any other advice for this is appreciated too. Thanks.

Linking between properties
I own 3 domains. One is my blog, one is my photography business site, and one is my graphic/web design site. They are all hosted on the same VPS account. I link between each site. Also, since the links are either in the nav, footer or sidebar, all pages from one page link to the homepage of each other. Is this an issue for SEO? Should I not be doing this? Would it be beneficial to use a no follow link instead if I'm to keep them?

Do links from between common sites you run count as "bad" links?
Hi everyone,
Link Building | | AMA-DataSet
Iv recently been asked to review a group of sites. There are 3 sites, each of these sites has a link to the other two sites within the footer or the navigation.
These site are about a similar topic each provides a different perceptive or aims at a specific section of the industry so its not like the links are to irreverent sites. However because the links are in a global section they are repeated thousands of times on each site and count for a large proportion of the link profile to each site, I don't think this is good practise and I want to remove them or at least add a no-follow but my client insists they are relevant to each other and doesn't not want the links removing. What would be best in this situation? remove them? no-follow them? or leave them? Thank you in advance,

Getting Links
Hi, Links from Directories are bad. Links for low quality sites are bad. Paid links are bad. Guest blogging is "maybe rumor has it" google's next big Penguin. Where and how is everybody getting all these great links from, is there anywhere left?? All advice welcomed as we really need good links quick! Thanks

Why Google is not getting many of the links to my site?
Hello, I have a website for cosmetics, selling and a lot of information (http://www.vipcosmetica.com). For about half a year I've been working also in seo for several google keywords. My question is about the external links to my site. Using different tools, including those of SEOMoz, I see just a few links to my site, however there are plenty, because I've been putting them myself, in public directories, related blogs, industry websites and so on. Alexa shows 5 links only, OpenSiteExplorer shows 4, and Market Samurai 9. I thinks theres should be like 50-60 links, minimum, in pages with good google PR (Youtube, Vimeo, Vulka, Hotfrog, Digg, Flickr, etc.). In Alexa, recently two more links appeared, from two blogs that have copied some content from my site (priveta policy) without changing the original links that point to other pages on my site, and those are the links that Alexa shows now. What could be the reason the rest of the links do not appear at all? Thank you very much

What is the length for Open Explorer and/or Google to pick up on Blogroll links?
I'm just a little curious about this and thought I would make use of the new Q&A system. This is my first open question. I recently acquired some blogroll links on 3 fairly popular and well trafficked sites, some with more authority and pages than mine (Get Right Music). I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the time frame in which I should start to see that affect my rankings in Google. Also, the time frame when I should start to see those domain links appear in Open Site Explorer. I'm just curious. Thanks everyone. Jesse
