Canalogical Tag

Hello,
I wanted to have a clean url for example : site.com/producta and our web developer installed this module which does this great.
However there are now two products one with unclean url for example sit.com/productaxmlayoiadkja and the clean one - on both pages page it says:
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.site.com/producta">Is this correct? Reason being is I'm aiming for the long tail and the site is not getting any visitor although we have unqiue 250 products+ and getting less then 20 visitors a day after almost a year! I would appreciate any help because I'm getting in real trouble because the site is performing so badly!

What you are describing sounds perfect. Just to be clear I'll offer an example. Let's say you are selling boxes of Cheerios:
URL1 = mysite.com/productxyzpdq
URL2= mysite.com/cheerios
Both URLs present the exact same, or almost the same content. The proper adjustment is to add a canonical tag to both pages:
What you are doing is communicating to search engines "hey, if you want to index this page, always use the canonical URL even if it doesn't match the page's actual URL. Both this page the canonical page offer essentially the same content."

Hi, many thanks for taking the time to reply. No, its the same product but two pages so the original product with the rubbish url title and then another with the clean url title but both have the same canolocial link ref. Sorry hope that makes it clearer. with many thanks sonja

From what I understand you have 2 different pages with different urls
Both these pages are different also.
And both of them have <link rel="canonical" href="http://www.site.com/producta"> rather than site.com/product?#nasnsns or the other URL.
If that is the case then yes it is wrong.

Is using a H1 tag in a logo image bad for SEO?
We have brand logos on certain pages that have H1 tags in them - the H1 text being the brand's name, as this is what we'd want the title of the page to be. The logos are at the top of the page instead of a written title. But is this the best option for SEO? Do search engines value H1 tags in images as highly as a standard H1 tag?Would it be better for SEO to add an alt tag to the logo and add a separate H1 tag on the page that's also the name of the brand?

H1 tag positioning impact
Hello, I am currently working with a dev team to develop a new site. We have designed the title tags to sit below a banner image on each page but the technical team are insisting the h1 title tags must come above the banner for maximum SEO impact. I am sceptical about this, can anybody please shed some light and/or share any up to date resource on this? Homepage Title Tag - Key phrases spread too thin? Advice please
Hi there. Im newish to SEO and first time poster here (so apologies if I've posted in the incorrect place), and I'm hoping for some advice on my homepage title tag. Its is: "Asbestos Surveys & Removal, Kent & Sussex - MyBusinessName Asbestos Surveyors UK" Im hoping to target keyphrases "Asbestos Surveys Kent", "Asbestos Surveys Sussex", "Asbestos Removal Kent", "Asbestos Removal Sussex", "Asbestos Surveyors UK". My question is, have I attempted to jam too much in? By breaking the location bits away from "Asbestos Surveys", will it rank poorly for "Asbestos Surveys Kent"? Should I only target "Surveys" OR "Removal". Many thanks in advance.

Title Tag issue
Hello, This is a weird one. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. A couple months ago, we updated trinitypower.com and it was back then that I first noticed this issue, but because the home page title tag was okay and contained the primary terms for that page, I told myself I would circle back. The problem is that even though Google crawls the site everyday, it does not update the title tag text in it's index. Google: "Trinity Power Rentals" and you will see the title in the index as "Trinity Power: Temporary Power Rentals". Go to trinitypower.com and view source. You will see the title tag in the code as "Temporary Power Rentals - Trinity Power" The desc tag has been updated correctly, but I can't figure out why not the Title tag. You can look at the cache version in the index of Google. It is showing the latest version of that tag, so I really do not understand what has happened here. I am using WP Super Cache... maybe a conflict with that? I have dumped it's cache numerous times though. Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Jarrett

What does Google consider a "Duplicate Title Tag?"
Do the title tags have to be exactly the same, or can they have some of the same keywords but different context? Hypothetical example: Home Page = Raising a Kitten, Tips & Tricks for a Healthy Cat Sub-Page = How to Cat-Proof your Home when Raising a Kitten Since both title tags has "raising a kitten," "cat" and "tips" would this be considered a "Duplicate Title Tag" even though the pages have completely different content in them? Google Results Title Tag HELP
Can anybody tell us why Google changes your title tag in the SERP? If you check out the below link or type in 'days inn', you will see the 2nd result for www.daysinnrc.co.uk just says 'Days Inn' but on the actual site the title tag for this page is 'Days Inn UK | Days Inn | Daysinnrc.co.uk' http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&q=days+inn&oq=days+inn&gs_l=hp.3...4110.4110.4.4297.1.1.0.0.0.0.0.0..0.0...0.0...1c.1.kWVC24EnCHE&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=7680231318a44bb0&bpcl=35466521&biw=1920&bih=934 This has happened with another site too, does anybody know why? Title and Heading Tags
Firstly I would like to comment on how helpful this site is. I haven't posted much before but have been reading tonnes of answers for many months now and have been finding it really useful. I used the SEOmoz scanner and the main problem highlighted was duplicate content so I started to add 'customer product reviews' I had received and unique 'further information' to each page (hopefully this was the right thing to do to solve duplicate content! : ) ) Then I looked at heading and title tags. Currently I set title tags for each product page to be "Brand Name- Product Name" but after doing some research we are thinking of putting Keyword Description of Product | Product Name | Brand Name (around 60 characters long). So is this the advised thing to do and create unique titles that are relevant to each specific product page for over 200 pages we have? In addition, any advice on setting optimum tags would be great. We keep reading varying tips online. I gather ideally h1 needs to be a shorter keyword rich version of the title tag? Many Thanks

Canonical tag for home page
This question was asked before but I didn't see a clear answer to it. If I've got a site that has as it's home page: http://www.mysite.com/, and there are many references within the site back to the home page that point to /index.php, should I include a canonical tag in the index.php page like this: to avoid a duplicate content issue, and to have all juice from both links combined into one?
