What to do with a new good looking site?
-
With a new site comes new challenges.
We have recently finished one of our clients websites in the Retirement (financial) field.
In my opinion the site is looking good, fast loading(very little js, optimized images) and good SEO structuring.
As being a new site i feel like the decisions taken now are crucial. If SEO is done properly could save a lot of time. If not would take us a while until we get 1-5 positions for retirement, retirement options, retirement planning, retirement ireland.
Any thoughts on existing design / structure / content.
Any extra suggestions are welcome.

Your very welcome ennovation. And yes you do have a tendency to stare yourself blind on a design one did oneself, I know that all to well
Just a final thought, since your also targeting an elder audience you should bare in mind that old peops have a nasty tendency to have old mashines with outdated browsers, so you should make sure that your final version supports IE6.
Best of luck

Awesome. Thanks guys for the best feedback so far
As you may know doing the website yourself you kind of miss these things as there a lot of things to cover when going though the entire process on your own.
(p.s.. did the website all by myself design + functionality)
Thanks again for the good feedback.

good point about the older audience Stephen.. actualy you should make all buttons using text and css. That way they can use (no clue what those programs are called in english but the once that read a web page out loud to someone. :)..
And you should make sure it can pass a AAA standard. meaning should use a fluid grid design (since you are targeting an older audience) that way they can scale (hence read) the page and the layout will remain the same. For an example on fluid grid design check this link: http://www.designinfluences.com/fluid960gs/

Thats pretty much what I thought. I was also thinking some of the text was large, which is good for an okder audience, but some is rather small. Id find a decent, large size and stick to it
I also think your elements could do with some more space between them, to help uses read and chunk the page visually

Hi there
not so quick as you might think. I would run it through the following firefox plugins and follow their advice:
- ySlow
- Google Page Speed
- avoid links width anchor texts like view "more", "read more" or "view all" and so on.
- several links (that are images) are missing title tags
- several images are missing alt text since you made them using css sprites witch is good, but doesn't help google allot.
- Several of your image buttons could easily be swapped for text with a background image, this would help google crawl your site as well.
Regarding design:
- the top menu disappears in the gradient background
- the lower part of the page is a bit messy (text wise.)
- Too many font sizes used
- Too many font colours used
Hope that you don't take my critics personal, but the above where my immediate thoughts when I saw it

Good point. The free consultation being one of the main points we need to highlight on the site.
-
Very quick and minor point but I would look at the colours that you use on your homepage buttons. The bottom piece of text on the buttons e.g. 'free consultation' is very difficult to make out, which could be a particular for issue for people whose eyesight may be in decline.

If someone were to link to our site on now on an old article (dating back 1-2 years) is that still beneficial if all other variables are good?
I'm trying to build up our external links and am finding lots of opportunities, some of which are on older articles dating back to 2014, 2013 etc. These pieces are relevant to our site and have high DA, I'm wondering if the post date of these articles matter? Thanks!

Transferring inbound links to new domains
Hi, I've recently changed domains and have redirected all traffic from the old site to the new one. The problem is that none of my built links for the old domain are showing up for the new domain (I use moz.com/researchtools/ose/) I've read a few articles saying it's best practice to get in touch with the people that are linking to your old website to let them know the address has changed. When I search for my old domain using moz.com/researchtools/ose/ it says there is 0 established links. I know this isn't the case as I've visited one of the sites that does still list this domain. Is there a way of getting a list of my old domain's backlinks so I can contact them? I didn't make a list before redirecting. Thank you.

Finding a good guest posting service
I'm looking for any recommendations for a high-quality guest posting service that isn't posting to placing articles on their own network of websites, but instead has relationships with blog owners who will take good quality guest posts. And I'm willing to pay up for high-quality sites. Thanks for any suggestions, including suggestions on how to find these services if you don't want to say any names.

On-Page E-commerce Site Optimization
Hello everyone! Just started on a new job as in house SEO and PPC but it is also my first job as such, got little experience and for what I know the site needs a lot of work in terms of optimization. I would like to ask some help and some opinions about what I think should be done in order to rank higher because at the moment the highest ranking page doesn't go higher than the third page for general but high traffic volume keywords. All the titles tag are too long, some of them are up to 100 characters The meta tag isn't optimized properly to attract people and get clicks the content on the product pages is laid out badly and there aren't many keywords a lot of duplicate content there are little inbound links there isn't a section for content such as a news page, a blog or anything like that which makes link building even harder Here my challenges: Create well optimized product, category , subcategory pages to improve also the PPC landing pages Improve the rankings at least to get on the first page for general keywords Choose the right keywords to optimize the site for increase the number of inbound links. I also have to manage adwords and given my little experience I can't seem to prioritize things so any suggestions would be really appreciated. Also if you don't mind to take a look at the site and leave me comments on things that I should improve, I'd be grateful . The main problem also is the niche I work in is not the best, I know nothing about it which makes things worse. repsole.com Thank you for reading Oscar

What should I look for when choosing a good article directory for SEO purposes?
I have been writing SEO content for blogs for the past year or so, but I am fairly new to article directories. With SEO in mind, what makes a particular article directory valuable? Currently I'm using EzineArticles and Squidoo; I liked Ezine in particular because of their thorough review process. I saw that recently Squidoo also amped up their checks for original content as a result of Google's stricter policies. I was interested in using HubPages also since they are good about reviewing content. I'm just curious how much factors like this reflect on an article directory SEO-wise. Are there any additional factors that set a a good article directory apart?

301 redirect blog network to main site, good or bad?
Hi, Here is a newbie question. When we launched our web shop 18 months ago I started eight blogs on a different host with keyword rich domain names to get some links to the shop. Today I don't update them, but they have a lot of links to our shop and the blogs have something like DA 20 and PA 30-40. There are lots of links between the blogs as well. Can I do 301 redirects of the blogs/posts to the web shop to rank higher in the SERP for the keywords? If I do, what happens to the links from the blogs to the shop? Will the shop loose a lot of links, but gain in PA, DA, mR etc? Overall, would the shop/main site benefit from this? Or should I just leave the blogs and not mess with them? They don't have much traffic. I appreciate any input, thanks!

Is there way to identify all back links throughout a site or do I have to check one site page at a time? Thanks!
Sorry if it is obvious, but I can't seem to figure it out. I'd like to be able to run a report that will list all of the back links on every page of my site.
