What to do with a new good looking site?
-
With a new site comes new challenges.
We have recently finished one of our clients websites in the Retirement (financial) field.
In my opinion the site is looking good, fast loading(very little js, optimized images) and good SEO structuring.
As being a new site i feel like the decisions taken now are crucial. If SEO is done properly could save a lot of time. If not would take us a while until we get 1-5 positions for retirement, retirement options, retirement planning, retirement ireland.
Any thoughts on existing design / structure / content.
Any extra suggestions are welcome.

Your very welcome ennovation. And yes you do have a tendency to stare yourself blind on a design one did oneself, I know that all to well
Just a final thought, since your also targeting an elder audience you should bare in mind that old peops have a nasty tendency to have old mashines with outdated browsers, so you should make sure that your final version supports IE6.
Best of luck

Awesome. Thanks guys for the best feedback so far
As you may know doing the website yourself you kind of miss these things as there a lot of things to cover when going though the entire process on your own.
(p.s.. did the website all by myself design + functionality)
Thanks again for the good feedback.

good point about the older audience Stephen.. actualy you should make all buttons using text and css. That way they can use (no clue what those programs are called in english but the once that read a web page out loud to someone. :)..
And you should make sure it can pass a AAA standard. meaning should use a fluid grid design (since you are targeting an older audience) that way they can scale (hence read) the page and the layout will remain the same. For an example on fluid grid design check this link: http://www.designinfluences.com/fluid960gs/

Thats pretty much what I thought. I was also thinking some of the text was large, which is good for an okder audience, but some is rather small. Id find a decent, large size and stick to it
I also think your elements could do with some more space between them, to help uses read and chunk the page visually

Hi there
not so quick as you might think. I would run it through the following firefox plugins and follow their advice:
- ySlow
- Google Page Speed
- avoid links width anchor texts like view "more", "read more" or "view all" and so on.
- several links (that are images) are missing title tags
- several images are missing alt text since you made them using css sprites witch is good, but doesn't help google allot.
- Several of your image buttons could easily be swapped for text with a background image, this would help google crawl your site as well.
Regarding design:
- the top menu disappears in the gradient background
- the lower part of the page is a bit messy (text wise.)
- Too many font sizes used
- Too many font colours used
Hope that you don't take my critics personal, but the above where my immediate thoughts when I saw it
-
Good point. The free consultation being one of the main points we need to highlight on the site.
-
Very quick and minor point but I would look at the colours that you use on your homepage buttons. The bottom piece of text on the buttons e.g. 'free consultation' is very difficult to make out, which could be a particular for issue for people whose eyesight may be in decline.

1000 of links on my website ? is it good or bad
Hi guys my site: www.dorchdanola-netbutik.dk is a e-commerce store, and generally we have many links on all pages because of the many products and categories. Im not sure if this is actually bad or good? I've been told that it will definately harm my site when google crawls it. The thing is that google visit my site often and I still have good pageranks in google. So does it actually harm my site having all these products and categories? And what can I do about it if google see every page as duplicate content? I also link to my social pages like FB, G+, e.g. Should I put rel="nofollow" or rel="me" on these social links? Thanks guys!

Site wide back links
Hi, One of our sites has a site-wide link from another site. So, Google sees 6700 pages from that site link to one of our pages. Is that something to be concerned about? The other site is http://www.daum.net/ We also have 2000 pages that blogspot.com links to us from. Both these sites have high domain authority, so I would hope all those links score well. But I certainly don't want to be penalized for links that appear spammy. Thank you in advance.

How to safeguard against negative SEO for new sites?
Hi Mozers!! I have a question. The ugly tools for blog commenting etc are still out there, my question is what if your competitor notices you that you are new to the business and they start building 20,000+ backlinks to your new site, and they too with one exact match anchor text that you are targeting. I know we can disavow tool, but I guess that would be too late? What are your thoughts? What will be the solution the above case scenario?

How to get started with a brand new site and domain name and prioritize content creation?
Hi there. I just bought a Moz Pro membership with the goal to start with a new domain name and create a content channel. The domain name is completely fresh so it doesn't have any authority or trust associated with it. I did initial keyword research with the Google Keyword Tool for the niche I want to address and know what content I can get out. I would like to prioritize content creation based on what will rank easily in Google and then work my way up from there. Do you have ideas on how I could best prioritize these keywords to this? How can I identify the low hanging fruit for getting some incoming links to my website such that there is already some incoming link juice? (without using any black hat tricks) Any hints or tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks! PS: The website is in Europe where the blogosphere is really underdeveloped for the niche.

New to SEO - Best Practice Example
I am new to the SEO world and I have been using the tools SEOMoz provides. I was doing some research and happen to find this website: http://www.futuresimple.com/lead-tracking-software/ I noticed that their sitemap does not contain all of the links that are located at the bottom of the page. Also when you click one of the page on the bottom that you are taken to a landing page and it forces you to their software page. Community feedback - do you think this is a good techique to do something like this or can you please provide me a some other good examples for a niche/smaller website? Thank you. Denny

What is a good average cost to acquire a link?
If you use a link building tactic for long enough, you can estimate the average cost for each link that is acquired through that tactic. For instance if you typically get 10 links from an infographic that costs $1,000 to create and promote, your average cost per link is about $100. What range do you target for your average cost per link? What average cost would you take all day long if you could scale it?
